Hello!! Today has been a productive day on both the work and personal life front. I worked at the gym through the morning before calling it quits around lunchtime when I grabbed lunch with a coworker at Groucho’s Deli.
On the drive over to the deli, I snacked on one too many handfuls of yogurt-covered almonds I had stashed in my purse, so by the time we arrived, I wasn’t all that hungry and actually felt a little blah. Fail. I still knew I needed to get something protein and veggies in my belly (you know, something other than sugary almonds), so I ordered a salad with honey mustard dressing and a small bag of chips on the side.
The turkey meat on the salad was really, really good and I have a feeling Groucho’s makes a mean sandwich. Had a been hungrier and not slipping into a sugar stupor, one of their hot subs would’ve been right up my alley. Next time!
After lunch, I said goodbye to my coworker and drove off to the DMV for an important errand.
Now that we’ve lived in North Carolina for seven months (what!?), I figured I should probably retire my Florida driver’s license in favor of a North Carolina one. I actually think I was supposed to do this within two months or so of moving… Oops. Anyway, I made it to the DMV today and, after taking a simple test, was awarded a slip of paper that will serve as my temporary license until my new license arrives in the mail soon.
The test wasn’t hard at all and I just had to identify various road signs. They removed the symbols/text from some of them so I had to identify them just by the sign shape (pennant = No Passing Zone, etc.), but it was all very basic.
With my driver’s license business out of the way, I began the drive back home, but made a quick detour because I needed to pick up some craft supplies for a little project I have on my to do list.
I’ll be sure to share some details soon since DIY blog posts are way too fun for me. (And no, the crafty project is not Valentine’s Day related.)
Now I’m back at home and planning to spend the next few hours working on the computer and playing catch up from the weekend before it’s time to get a lil’ crafty over here!
Have a great evening!

7 months! WOW – where did the time go?? Crazy.
And that’s so weird you have to take a test to get a new license in a different state. I’ve never heard of that.
Julie says
I know! It varies from state to state. When I moved to Florida from Illinois there wasn’t a test involved or anything!

Oh la la ! I can’t wait to see what you’re making! I’m personally DIY challenged, I like to pretend I’m craftier than I am, but I always get a kick out of at least trying. 🙂

Hi Julie! When I had to get my California driver’s license about two years ago, I had NO idea there would be a written test and it was actually pretty hard. Luckily I passed. 🙂 But I haven’t driven much being that I live in San Francisco. Hope your crafting is fun!
Ashley @ sweet carolina belle says
Your NC DMV is a lot fancier than ours in Raleigh. Hope you had a good experience!
Nicole @ Squash on Squash says
Snacking on nuts before meals happens to me much too often, even though it almost always leaves me feeling too full to enjoy my meal! So i definitely know how you feel. And it’s crazy how fast 7 months can go by… I’m now halfway through my last semester of college and don’t know where the time went!!
Tamara @ A Side Of Dessert says
I always do that snack on something and then I’m no longer hungry! You’ve had a busy day so I hope some relaxation is in the works tonight!

A diy craft project with hearts that is not valentines related…..I sense a pregnancy announcement in the making!!

Have to admit I had the same thought… Whatever it is, looks like a fun project 🙂

I was so surprised they didn’t make me take a written or driving test over here in Switzerland when I got my license last year!
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog says
That deli is so cute! I always wonder if I would pass if I had to take a drivers’ test again. I’d like to think yes, but I bet my husband would bed to differ.

Oh how I miss Groucho’s! I used to eat there an embarrassing amount when I lived in Charleston 🙂 Next time definitely get a sandwich with their famous 45 sauce. So not healthy but so so good!
Emily @ Sweet Summer Smiles says
I’m surprised you had to take a test! Two months after we moved to Florida, my husband got pulled over because one of his headlights was out and when the officer asked for his license he still had his old one from the state we were previously in. We didn’t know that you had to get a new license within so many months of moving to the state. The officer dismissed the taillight, and fined him for not having a Florida license… $100 later, now we know 🙂 haha
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
Oh man you just reminded me that I have to get a new license since I moved to Chicago. I think we have 3 months to do it from when we moved here, but I dont know that I am going to get it done by then. At least now I know that they didnt track you down and throw you in jail haha. Congrats!
Nona @ RunningHigh says
I think I’ve got you beat–I lived in Arizona for seven YEARS before retiring my CA license! Major oops! Luckily, all I had to do was go in. No test or anything! Hope your wait wasn’t too long!

Hobby Lobby sucks me in every time. I can’t ever manage to get out of there with ONLY what I went in for. Can’t wait to see what you create!

7 months? I can’t believe it! I feel like you are a new North Carolinaian still!
Liv @ Healthy Liv says
I sometimes snack too much right before a meal, too! I’m trying to not do that as much because then I’m way too full for the good stuff 🙂

I remember like it was yesterday that you were looking for a place to live! I love spinning! I have been spinning for around 15 years my daughter and I always say we should get certified and team teach. Good music and giving some thought to the type of work out, balance between hills and sprints, effect on the heart etc are all important to a good instructor. I am sure you will be great!
Amanda B @ Cupcakes & Miles says
I was seriously just about to excitedly ask if your project was Valentine’s related…guess not! Can’t wait to see what you’re up to! 🙂
Katie @ Katie Moves says
Took me a year to change my license from PA to MD when I moved haha oops….
Maggie @ Veg Fiend says
Yay for you for getting your NC driver’s license. I’ve been living in NJ for too long now (a year and a half! gasp) and getting an NJ license is still on my to-do list. Bleh.. I am just dreading it.

Do you usually eat something after you teach your spin class in the morning?

I seriously can’t believe it has been 7 months!! That’s so crazy!!

I feel like it was just yesterday that you moved. Where do the time go?
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Glad you passed your test! Who would have known there would be criteria like that? Enjoy your DIY project!
Pamela says
Wow! When I moved to NC almost 8 years ago they were requiring us to actually take the written test. It had the most ridiculous questions. Definitely be glad you just had the sign test!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
Wow 7 months already?! That’s crazy! When we moved to NY we were super paranoid the whole 15 months we were there because we never changed our VA driver’s licenses and were convinced we’d get pulled over. hah. Oh well, now we’re back in VA so I don’t have to be paranoid anymore 🙂
jan klein says
7 months what?! Didn’t we just start the journey to NC?

When I lived in Missouri, I didn’t mind the DMV. They all seemed to be good-natured and everything, but when I moved back to Iowa, the DMV in my hometown was just as surly as I remembered. I always feel like I’m bothering them whenever I’m in there. Every single time. It’s ridiculous. Luckily, my driver’s license picture makes me look like Kate Winslet, so there’s that, at least. 😉
Courtney! @ Redefining Athlete says
It took me a long time to finally admit I was no longer a Chicagoan (2 years, I think).
I still keep my Illinois plates in the trunk of my car just in case I need to prove at any time that I’m not originally from Missouri.
