My car was finally ready for pickup after my accident (but I ended up spending two hours at the garage after some complications…) and we were in and out of the vet’s office with Sadie a number of times. We are feeling very grateful because Sadie seems to be healing well after she was bit on her back right leg by another dog on Monday. Thank goodness!!
I shared a little bit more about this on my Instagram Stories but in case you missed it, earlier this week we were playing at a beach near our house where dogs always play fetch off-leash in the water and Sadie trotted over to say hello to an off-leash golden retriever. Apparently this was NOT okay and the dog immediately lunged at Sadie and everything happened in two seconds. (The owner and I waved at each other when we arrived and she didn’t say her dog was uncomfortable around other dogs, so it was very unexpected — and I think the owner was surprised by her dog’s reaction as well.) The dog’s owner screamed at her dog and quickly got control over him as Sadie rolled over and passively submitted to the dog’s attack.
I was terrified but everything happened so fast that it was over in an instant. Sadie didn’t have any blood on her leg and wasn’t limping at all after the bite. Truthfully, she didn’t seem fazed which was a big blessing. The owner apologized profusely and I truly thought Sadie just had some hair ripped out of her back leg since the single puncture didn’t bleed until after we got home. (We were told this is apparently common with deep punctures.) It wasn’t until after we were home and Sadie actually let me examine her leg that I noticed the wound and called the vet. We took her in and Sadie was sedated and given a drain to help prevent infection and sported the cone of shame (something she’s all to familiar with by now) for a few days.
The drain did its job for a couple of days but even though we did our best to clean the two new openings the vet added for the drain and follow instructions, the appearance of the drain concerned me and I took her back into the vet yesterday. Our vet said bringing her in was the right thing to do and thankfully took her drain out and taught me how to clean everything so she seems 10,000 time more comfortable. Cone dog no more! Phew!
So that’s the long story of Sadie’s first (and hopefully last!!) dog bite. I’m so, so glad she’s okay and she has truly handled everything like a champ.
Now let’s get back to some normalcy around here, shall we? Aside from continuing to give Sadie lots of love, our plans for the weekend include a date night tonight (I planned a surprise for Ryan!), blueberry picking and just laying low with our little family. We’ve chatted with friends about doing something fun for the Fourth of July as well, so we’ll see if anything comes to fruition!
In the meantime, let’s dive into your weekly Things I’m Loving Friday blog post where I highlight a few things that are making me happy every week. As always, I’d love for you to tell me about something that is making you smile in the comments section as well!
Things I’m Loving Friday
- Dory Sticker Scenes Book = Toddler Travel Gold
I meant to mention this a week or so ago but it totally slipped my mind! I ordered the Dory Sticker Scenes Book on Amazon on a whim before our flight to Florida earlier this month and it was FABULOUS. Even though Chase has flown with me a number of times, there’s always a bit of anxiety that comes along with travel with a toddler, especially an incredibly energetic and very mobile little man! Chase loves Dory with a fiery passion (funny because he’s never even seen the movie but loves his Dory books and all marine life in general) and I figured a sticker book with tons of Dory stickers might be a hit with him and provide some entertainment during our flight.
You guys, this book was seriously the most amazing $2.45 I’ve spent all year and entertained him for a LONG time. We picked stickers out of the back of the book and matched them to their proper pages so it combined two of Chase’s favorite activities (matching things + stickers) and he was completely enamored. I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone who might have a flight on the agenda in the next few months with a sticker-obsessed toddler.
- FabFitFun Summer Box
You guys know I’m a fan of The Bachelor/The Bachelorette and, admittedly (embarrassingly?), I follow a small handful of some of my past favorite contestants from the show on Instagram. (Guilty.) Well a small handful of them rave about the FabFitFun boxes they receive regularly and I’m not sure if they get the boxes in advance, but the previews I saw of the summer box had me waaay too excited to open mine up when it arrived on my doorstep!
FabFitFun periodically sends me boxes to check out and this one was a slam dunk! I loved everything in it from the cooling massage oil (oh my gosh, so amazing… and the perfect excuse to exchange massages at the end of the day!) and adorable On The Road Again travel set (passport holder + luggage tag) to the Juice Beauty organic soothing eye concentrate, BKR glass water bottle and beautiful gem bar necklace! I was also probably a little too pumped to try Vital Proteins marine collagen sample since I’m a collagen fan and have heard great things about the Vital Proteins brand. (The verdict? LOVED it.)
If you’d like to order a FabFitFun box for yourself, you can use the code PBFINGERS for $10 off your first box! (I do not receive a kickback for any boxes purchased.) I really hope you love it! And thank you to FabFitFun for the exciting package!
I know my Friday features sometimes include some oddball products (I’m lookin’ at you Lil’ Chizler food scraper tool <— still the best thing ever for removing stubborn food from pots and pans) and today I have to give a shout out to something that’s seemingly mundane but also fantastic.
My mom is known within our family for her ability to get stains out of anything. She laughs in the face of a mustard stain. Grass? Dirt? Wine? No big deal. One of the pivotal secrets to her success is Stain Devils Stain Removers and after ordering a few for myself, I can see why! The stain removers come in specifically formatted solutions to remove everything from coffee, wine and juice to makeup, grass and dirt and more. I used the blood, dairy and ice cream formula on our couch after Sadie’s drain bled onto one of our cushions and it worked like a charm. I’m slowing building my Stain Devils collection and think it will be more and more useful the older (and messier) Chase gets!
I apologize if a new-to-me kind of ice cream continues to pop up on my TILF posts for the next few weeks but ice cream is my all-time favorite food and in the summertime my obsession only skyrockets. It always sounds like the perfect sweet treat when it’s so darn hot outside! This week I popped into the grocery store for toilet paper… and ONLY toilet paper, I told myself. And then I saw a box of these bad boys staring up at me (how I found myself in the ice cream section when I popped in for toilet paper, I’ll never know). I left with the box and ended up eating one as I was preparing dinner because that’s apparently how I roll. If you love Ben & Jerry’s cookie dough ice cream, I definitely recommend you give their new pint slices a try. It’s basically like portion-controlled Ben & Jerry’s (because we all know you can never eat just 1/2 cup) wrapped in rich and creamy chocolate.

Question of the Day
What is one thing that is making you smile today?
Karen says
I am sorry Sadie got bitten by a dog. We have a shelter dog who also does not like to be approached by some dogs. We walk in a dog park and at times if a dog/dogs surround her or jump in her face, she will give a warning and then snap. Unfortunately, not all dogs like to be approached, even by friendly dogs.
Glad she is ok, poor girl. It’s very scary when it happens.
Sara says
I want to comment on the Sadie thing as an owner of a dog who isn’t always the best with other dogs. My worst night mare is when off leash dogs approach my on leash dog without the owner asking me! My dog is ok playing off leash with other dogs but for some reason she freaks out when an off leash dog approaches when we’re walking her on leash.
Don’t assume the golden is a bad dog. My dog may have done the same thing to Sadie and she is an absolute sweetheart with my toddler.
I’m sorry this happened and hope Sadie is well soon!
Julie says
Oh I definitely didn’t assume the dog was a bad dog. I was just surprised at the attack since the dog was actually off-leash.
Karen says
Totally relate! My girl would never go after another dog, but, she just doesn’t always want another approaching her either.
I think on leash they feel trapped, is my guess.
Julie says
I think I should’ve clarified that the dog was actually off-leash and it’s an area where dogs play off leash all the time. I updated the post to say “off-leash” as well.
Sara says
Well that certainly changes things! We used to take our dog to off leash dog parks but they arent always the greatest experience (as you’ve now seen)!
Christina @ montessoriishmom.com says
Yikes, I’m so glad Sadie is okay! That sounds really scary. One thing I am loving this week is anticipating my family coming to visit for the 4th! We’re going to make your pineapple mint sangria and I can’t wait 🙂
Julie says
hope you love it! if you like sangria that’s not overly sweet, it’s perfect! and so summery. <3
Laurel says
I hope Sadie makes a full recovery! This is a good reminder to keep your dog leashed (and it’s usually a city ordinance). You never know how another dog is going to react when your dog approaches it, and for that matter tons of people hate when strange dogs approach them. Unless you are at a dog park or on your own property, keep your dogs under your control.
Julie says
I don’t think I conveyed this properly, but the beach is actually a neighborhood private beach area where people always have their dogs off-leash to play fetch in the water. (I updated the post clarify!) The owner and I waved to each other when we arrived at the beach and her dog was off-leash already and she gave no signal to say her dog was uncomfortable with other dogs. I think she was surprised at her dog’s reaction to Sadie as well. You’re right though, the incident is a good reminder to be proactive in preventing things like this in the future.
Karen says
Our dog park is also off leash, however, I wish the owners were still careful about allowing their dogs to jump or run up to any dog. We have two Viszla (sorry!) in the park who are very nice but jump in dog’s faces and race straight at them. Often, they get snarled at because many dogs just don’t like that. The owner does nothing but call them and they don’t listen to her at all. I would hate for them to get bitten as they are lovely dogs, but not all dogs can handle that energy.
And for clarification, I am NOT saying Sadie approached the dog this way. This is our experience only.
Maureen Feeney says
I’m glad to hear that you got your car back (even if there were some complications…seems to always happen after an accident) and that Sadie is okay. Have a great weekend!

Awesome finds this week! I’m definitely snagging the Dory sticker book and the ice cream. Cookie dough is my jam!
Juliette | Namastay Traveling says
I’m so glad Sadie is doing better! This is my worst fear when it comes to socializing my dog, mostly with bigger dogs I know I wouldn’t be able to control! Enjoy your weekend and I”m going to be sure to pick up some Ben and Jerry’s slices! I’ve been enjoying their cinnamon roll pint this week and portion control is not-a-thing with them ;-).
m says
I’m so glad Sadie is OK. I would’ve been so upset! My dog is also like a little person to me and so much more than “just a pet.” People who don’t have this type of bond with their pet may not understand, but a dog really can become a member of the family, usually the most spoiled member, haha.
I’m not sure if this was at an off leash dog park, but I’m not a fan of off-leash in places that aren’t specifically meant to be off-leash for reasons similar to this. I live in a different state than you and there are leash laws here, but people don’t always follow them. I’ve had dogs run up to my own (on leash) dog and get aggressive with her. I drop the leash (as the trainer taught me) and it still escalates. Either way, my dog, a well-behaved sweetheart and great with people, is very anxious around other dogs, so I don’t want any dogs running up to her without my consent, no matter how friendly they may be. Just a little insight into why a seemingly friendly dog or breed may attack.
Alexis deZayas says
Happy sweet Sadie is okay!! A date night and blueberry picking?! What a fun weekend! And those ice cream bars look delicious 🙂
Erika says
I am so sorry to hear about Sadie! She seems like such a sweet, easy going pup. I recently had a similar experience where my dog was bit by another dog that broke out of her harness on a walk. Similarly enough, my dog also was submissive and laid down during the encounter. Nobody ever wants to see their dog go through such a traumatic experience! Glad everyone is okay and I hope it doesn’t stop Sadie’s radiant personality!
Carrie this fit chick says
Oh no! Im so sorry to hear about Sadie. Poor thing. ive been reading your blog ever since she was a little thing!
fabfitfun sounds like a fun box especially in the summer time!
Brandy H. says
Oh my gosh, poor Sadie! I know how terrifying that is! Our dog was attacked 3 months ago by our neighbors dog and had to have 5 stitches on one shoulder and 2 on the other. My daughter witnessed the whole thing and was traumatized, poor girl!
I am glad Sadie is on the mend!
One thing that is making me smile today: knowing that our family beach trip is next week! 5 glorious days of no alarm clock and yoga on the beach. I cannot wait!!!
Julie says
That’s so scary! I’m so glad your dog was okay in the end. <3
Laurel says
Is there a stain remover for cat puke cause we’ve got that happening on our couch? Thanks Tasha.
Darby says
Hi Julie! I just got my Fab Fit Fun box yesterday! Bummed I didn’t get the pink water bottle but oh well! haha I totally get your Bachelor/Bachelorette obsession. I love it!!! I absolutely adore Lauren Bushnell and think she has the cutest style! Anyway, the thing from my box I thought was so neat was the himalayan salt rock and grater that comes with it PLUS recipes from Giada (my fave!) to cook up.
Patricia @Sweet And Strong says
Aw I felt so bad for Sadie after seeing her bite and cone on insta stories, but glad to hear she’s healing well. I NEED those stain removers in my life, our couch actually has a stain from what we think is my husbands hair gel from when he leans back and rests his head on the top. I’ve tried so many different things and it’s like a crusty part of the couch I can’t get out. Happy long weekend!
Lauren @ Oh Hey! I Like That! says
Poor Sadie pup! Give her lots of hugs for me! And OMG those Ben and Jerry slices!!!! I need those in my life!
April says
I also got the amazing Fab Fit Fun box and I was excited to try the collagen because I have read so many good things on your site. Let me start by saying I LOVE seafood…I grew up and still live minutes from the Chesapeake Bay; however, while the collagen was tasteless in my coffee, every time I lifted my cup for a sip, it smelled so fishy. I assume that’s because that it was marine collagen. Do you have the same experience with other types of collagen? Otherwise, I loved everything in the box. My hot pink water bottle is sitting on my desk as we speak. 🙂
Julie says
It was a great one, wasn’t it?! As for the fishy smell, I haven’t had that experience with other collagen… but with the marine collagen sample, I actually blended it into a smoothie, so maybe that masked the smell a bit?
Laura @ Laura Likes Design says
Poor Sadie! I’m glad to hear she’s on the mend!
Okay, I’m ordering that sticker book for my Nemo + sticker obsessed toddler niece! It will be a perfect birthday gift!
Julie says
Hope she loves it! And you can’t beat the price!
Sara says
It is so scary to see a dog attack your dog! My neighbor’s dog did that one time to mine-and our dogs had played together multiple times before. So glad Said is okay!
This week i’m loving DoTerra’s TerraShield. It seems whenever i go outside, even for a short time, i get bitten up by mosquitoes. Last night my husband and i put some on and neither of us got a single bite!
Erinn says
I’m so sorry Sadie got bitten by another dog 🙁 Glad she is doing better! That is seriously my worst fear now that we have our puppy…it’s lucky the golden retriever’s owner was close and could get a handle on the situation quickly. I have been in situations where the owner is no where to be found and their dogs have no idea how to act around other dogs. My parents adopted a rescue around 10 years ago and he is still very skittish and defensive around other dogs and other owners just don’t understand why he can’t tolerate other dogs jumping all over him! (I know Sadie didn’t do this!!) For that reason, we ALWAYS keep him on a leash unless he is in our fenced yard.
Glad to know there are still responsible pet owners out there!!
Betsy says
Yes! I have a dog that doesn’t like other dogs (and I previously owned a dog that got into a fight with a neighbor’s loose dog…which really traumatized me). When we encounter unleashed dogs on hikes (which goes against state leash laws) I always shout that my (leashed and under control dog) doesn’t like dogs. The other owners are always SO unconcerned and just say “oh my dog is nice, it’s fine.” It is really upsetting. It’s not fine that their dog is lose nice or not especially if I’m telling them my dog may not be nice. And I know if something ever did happen, I’d feel like it was my fault even though I was doing what I was supposed to.
Courtney A. Casto says
I just looked at your blog Erinn and Kimber is SO CUTE!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Poor Sadie! What a scary incident! I’m glad to hear that she is on the mend. And hopefully extra snuggles this weekend will help too! 🙂 Enjoy your weekend, Julie! 🙂
Reenie says
OMG… how scary! I’m glad Sadie is okay. Those ice cream singles look so good.
Emily @ Pizza & Pull-ups says
I’m so glad Sadie is okay, how scary. I just got that FabFitFun box and was so impressed with all the goodies this time around.
Hillary says
That FabFitFun box looks awesome this month!! Love the scarf.
Courtney A. Casto says
Oh my gosh, that is so scary! Poor Sadie. 🙁 I had a dream last night my puggle fell and broke her leg. Of course in the dream we were all doing some kind of acrobatic pyramid with the puggle on top so I don’t foresee this dream ever being a real scenario. Glad she’s feeling better! Have a fun date night!
Kelli @ Hungry Hobby says
That is so scary the dog BIT her! OMG my worst fear! I’m so glad she is okay!
Amanda says
Poor Sadie! I’m so glad she’s on the mend. My pup got attacked by another dog recently and while it probably lasted at total of 5 seconds, it felt like it was going on forever and was SO scary! Always best to bring them to the vet since we can’t always see the damage. Sadie’s lucky to have you! Hope you, the pup and the whole family have a great weekend xo
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
I am DYING to try those Ben and Jerry’s Pint Slices! I’ve seen them advertised everywhere and they look so good! Plus, like you said, the built-in portion control is probably the only thing that could make sure I eat an appropriate amount of Ben and Jerry’s in one sitting, as opposed to eating half the pint like usual haha.
Laura says
Hi Julie! I’m so sorry to hear what happened to Sadie! It looks like she is on the mend and feeling better and I’m sure is loving all the extra love! 🙂 Hope she heals quickly!! – Laura
Debbie Welsh says
Poor Sadie! It’s so scary when that happens. As the owner of a submissive dog, i’m always a little wary of her around other dogs as I know she wouldn’t stand up for herself. I don’t stop her for being with other dogs obviously, just have to hope that the other owners are responsible and understand their own dog’s personality and behaviour. Glad Sadie is okay!
Rachel (LittleChefBigAppetite) says
Oh my gosh, do not feel weird about your Lil Chizler recommendation! I bought one right after you featured it and it’s the BEST THING EVER. I bought one for my mom, too! Who knew something so small could be so fabulous!?
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
I’m glad to hear that Sadie is doing better. Enjoy the long weekend! We have one here in Canada too for Canada Day tomorrow.
Alicia @Bridges Through Life says
So sorry about Sadie getting bit. Glad she is OK. I remember years ago when my cat got an infection from getting bit by what we think was another cat. We didn’t know since he was an outdoor cat until we noticed the blister on his skin. He recovered fine as well after a few vet visits.
I hope you have a great holiday weekend. I am definitely planning to check out some of the sales going on.
Audrey says
I hope that Sadie is doing better and has a quick recovery! That would be so scary but I’m glad she’s doing okay.

I am totally going to try this sticker book. We have a 18 year flight coming up with my LO this fall and I am a bit nervous. Today I smiled watching our son eat so much watermelon! He loved it and made the biggest mess! lol
Madeline says
So glad Sadie is making a full recovery! Have fun on your date night! I love surprising my hubby with something I thought of–I actually did it on Friday! We never get hot wings (I’m a baby with spice), but I told him we were going to get them and then I got a salad from Whole Foods and we ate there and he was super thankful for his wingsssss. And not I want ice cream. BYE!
Meghan Zook says
Oh my goodness thank you for the sale updates! I spend 50 dollars at Old Navy and got 6 great items, including the same maxi dress as you! Such a great sale!
Kim from MN says
Oh my goodness, sorry to hear about Sadie! So glad she’s on the mend, but what a scary experience! Fwew!
And thanks for the recommendation of the stain fighting stuff – Era Plus (RIP) used to be THE thing that took out EVERY stain imaginable (I still don’t know why it’s gone), and it’s been tough to get stuff out ever since. I’m so happy this stuff exists! Trying it!
And I don’t know whether to thank you or not for recommending the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream bars, because cookie dough is my favorite flavor, and Ben and Jerry’s is one of my favorite brands…..so I guess that means this will somehow find its way into my cart soon! lol
Hope you’ve had a great weekend so far! (I’m commenting late on Sunday).
Melissa says
I can only imagine how scary that must have been with Sadie, but I am so, so very glad to hear she is doing well! I’m keeping her in my thoughts and hoping for a very speedy recovery!
adrianna says
my mom turned me onto those stain devils, too, and they are THE BEST. great addition to the post 🙂
