Ryan and I allowed our breakfasts to digest for a few hours (aka we acted like bums in our hotel room) before driving to the gym… the real gym, not the hotel’s fitness facility. Woo!
We hopped on side-by-side ellipticals to begin our workouts with 20 minutes of cardio before heading into the weight room to complete our respective workouts.
I did a weights workout very similar to Thursday’s routine, only I cut out three exercises or so but didn’t neglect ab work this time. Give and take.
100 Flavor Coke Machine
After the gym, Ryan had big plans in store for us for lunch.
Last week he joined a coworker for lunch at Firehouse Subs. When he told be about their lunch, he didn’t say one word about his sandwich, but went on and on about their awesome Coke machine. Apparently it had a bunch of different “base” sodas for you to choose from before selecting what flavor you wanted.
One hundred different flavor combinations are available!
Neither Ryan nor I are big soda drinkers, but we do enjoy the occasional soda every once in a while.
I was quite exited to experiment with the machine!
Vanilla Sprite!?
I filled my cup with a bit of vanilla Sprite Zero, which tasted a lot like cream soda, before adding a splash of strawberry Sprite at the end for a little more pizazz.
I want to go back and try peach Sprite sometime!
As we waited for our subs, we got a kick out of watching people at the 100 flavor Coke machine. They were like kids in a candy store! It’s very exciting stuff.
Lunch
For lunch we each ordered Firehouse Hero subs with no mayo.
The sub included ham, turkey and roast beef, veggies, stone ground mustard and melted provolone cheese.
I love the mustard they use on these subs. It adds so much flavor and a little bit of a kick.
Pool Playtime
When we arrived back at the hotel, we put on our swimsuits and headed out to the pool to read our respective books and enjoy some pool playtime.
I just started reading The Glass Castle.
I’m about 80 pages into the book and am not feelin’ it yet.
It’s a memoir and I sometimes struggle with memoirs because I like my books to have a real plot, some intrigue and suspense. Memoirs can sometimes fail to capture my interest because they’re just story after story about someone’s life. I’m going to keep plugging away because I’ve heard only great things about this book, but I sure hope it picks up soon.
Our time at the pool seemed to be split into 20 minute increments of reading and playtime. Whenever we’d be too hot to stand it anymore, we’d jump in the pool to play around.
I entertained Ryan with some of my awesome pool characters.
The shark…
The dead man…
And the president!
Whenever I’d flip my hair back like that when I was little I felt like looked like some of our first presidents, wearing those fancy white-haired wigs.
Now we’re back in the room where we’ll be hangin’ for a bit before heading to Orlando this evening for a really fun event!
More to come!

Those soda machines are ADDICTIVE!! If you get diet root beer with a shot of sprite zero…you may think you have died and gone to heaven. Then you may go back and get about a thousand more refills!! 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Haha. What a great day!
I love your guys’ sense of humor….the pics of you in the pool, and the joy of getting different flavors of soda!! My husband and I would’ve done all of the above too 🙂
Have fun tonight!
Jackie @ That Deep Breath says
I always do the “president” hairstyle when I’m in the pool!! So funny. I saw the 100 flavor Coke machine on Food Network a while ago and had no idea it was out in the world already!! So cool
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
Ahahahha girl I used to do the George Washington too, as I used to call it 😉 I would go shittt crazy over that machine, it looks like a boatload of fun.
I had to read The Glass Castle for Lit junior year, and it was pretty slow, but it’s a beauuutiful story. It takes some effort to get through though. It’s not awfully memorable.
With that, enjoy da book!
Brittany says
That Coke machine is crazy! How fun 🙂
I started The Glass Castle about 6 mos ago… and haven’t picked it up since. Could not get into it (and memoirs are my favorite books to read).
fittingbackin says
That book is on my must -read list – hope you enjoy!
I love that machine – Taco Mac offers a big coke menu with a ton of different ones too – very cool!
Liz @ Something To Chew On says
I loved The Glass Castle!! Stylin’ hair missy 😉
Kaetlin @ dailydoseofrunning says
I LOVE that Coke machine! My mom and brother were just visiting, and I specifically took them on an hour-long drive to Palo Alto just so they could experience the machine. It took my brother about 10 minutes to decide!! I am obsessed with the different minute maid light lemonade flavors mixed with soda water! How exciting that you have one so close!
Cait @ Beyond BAnanas says
That coke machine looks incredible! I am not a bike soda drinker either/…but would totally have lots of fun with that!
I tried to read glass castle a few years ago and could never get into it. I hope you have a better experience !
Shayla @ The Good Life says
That soda machine is so cool! I like soda a lil too much so I would probably have blast with that thing 🙂
Love your impersonations in the pool, too funny!
Dawn @ Blonde on a Mission says
HAHAHA I used to do the hair flip too! But I thought I looked like one of those stereotypical judges!
Tess says
I read the glass castle last year and had a hard time with it. The story is hard to read because it is a completely true and its hard to believe that the author had such a rough childhood. It definitely makes you appreciate being raised in a supportive and stable household.
Hayley @ hayley daily says
That Coke machine looks awesome! I would totally be into that.
I read ‘The Glass Castle’ about 6 years ago. I liked it (didn’t love it), but I do tend to enjoy memoirs so we’re different in that way. It wasn’t my favorite, but it was a decent read.
Brittany says
My cousin and I used to the hair flip thing too and get such a kick out of it. So fun!!
Also, keep reading The Glass Castle! It’s one of my favorite books. 🙂
Erin says
i love that book actually! i read it 2 years ago and i still remember loving it!!!!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Ooohh I’d have so much fun with that Coke machine!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
That coke machine looks amazing!!! I wonder if they have those in other cities?! It reminds me of when my friend and I would go to Quick Trip and mix sodas. Our favorite is what we called the Taste O’ Freedom (referencing that we went and made it during senior year of HS when we were finally allowed to leave campus!). It was a mixture of diet Mountain Dew, Mountain Dew, Rooster Booster and diet Rooster Booster… So healthy. haha.
Laura @ Meet Virginia says
Hang in there with The Glass Castle! It is one of my favorite books of all time! PS I am about 1/2 way through Divergent after picking it up because of your review – I’m loving it!
Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health says
Yes! I love the president hair! I used to do that all the time as a kid :). I’m not big on memoirs either. Plus, if I can’t get into a book by like 50 pages in, I usually don’t keep reading it. Maybe I’m too impatient haha
Allison @ Happy Tales says
HAHA i totally used to do the president, too!!! Man, i msis those summer days of games at the pool! Marco Polo and Sardines were always my fav. And of course playing dolphins. When I was ltitle sometimes I’d start seeing “halos” around object b/c i’d keep my eyes open in the water so much! That’s probably why I’m as blind as a bat, now (-7, can’t get much worse than that!)
forloveofcarrots says
The glass castle is a good one, I hope you get into it!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I’m reading that book right now too, and I feel the same way. I’ll probably finish it, but memoirs are difficult to read!
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
That coke machine is epic!!
I used to do the George Washington in the pool all the time too 😉
Joe @ The Frolicking Fells says
That soda machine reminds me of the soda machine at the World of Coca-Cola Museum in Atlanta, GA. They have over 100 different flavors of pop that is sold by Coca-Cola all around the world…including mint soda (good) and ginger soda (not very good).
Jordan @ food, sweat, and beers says
Ha, I always called that last hairstyle the Martha Washington. Always fierce looking in that pool, president or not.
I wonder what it would taste like if you merged a zillion flavors together…. we used to call those suicide sodas. Not tasty, and you had to be on some sorta suicide mission to try one!
Corey @ schnoodlesoffun says
Ahhhh! We have a Firehouse just down the street and we LOVE the Coke machine there! We go there just for the awesome soda flavors!! I get something different everytime and it never gets old!!! My sandwich of choice is the hook and ladder. Yummy!
Dani @ Dani Delicatessen says
100 different flavors?! I didn’t even know that many existed in the world!
alex says
I’ve been wanting to try one of those coke machines! My husband told me the Taco Time by his work has one..I’m just worried I would have a hard time deciding! 🙂
Kara says
I’ve heard the book “A Dog’s Purpose” by W. Bruce Cameron is a great book. You being a dog lover …. maybe you’d like it?
Jenn says
Hahahaha, i have done the “President” ever since I was a kid too! Sometimes when I’m super lazy I’ll just wash my hair under the bathtub faucet and when i pull it out of the towel it looks just like that… my boyfriend cries with laughter every time!
Angie says
Try reading Unbroken. You’ll be hooked right away. So will Ryan. Amazing book. I’m sure it will be a movie soon.
Corrie Anne says
Ha! I love your pool poses. I WOULD GO CRAZY NUTSO for that cool Coke Machine! I want to find one RIGHT NOW! Cool!
Elise says
Though Glass Castle took me a bit to get into, I was so happy I finished it. The story is, at times, so unrealistic –but yet so real, and its clearly something that really can’t have been (at the core) made up. I think its a beautiful memoir, and I actually have her second book: Half Broken Horses. I definitely prefer Glass Castle.
And I totally used to do George Washington hair when I was growing up! Love it 🙂
Jess@atasteofconfidence says
Haha I love the george washington hair.
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Haha nice hair! and that soda machine looks like so much fun 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I read the glass castle and there were parts I was into and it flew by and others that dragged. It’s definitely an odd story!
Ali @ Ali Runs says
My sister and I impersonate funny characters in the pool too. When we were growing you we called the “president” the “Martha Washington.” love it!
Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups says
What a cool soda machine! I wonder if they have them at all the Firehouse Subs. I’ll have to check it out. When I was younger I used to come out of the pool and flip my hair back like The Little Mermaid. So cheesy.
peanutbutterfingers says
i did the same thing!!! and i had a green bucket that was my “flounder.”
Chelsea says
I had no idea so many people did the president hair in the pool; I thought my sister and I were the only goofy kids who did that. Go funky pool hair! Also that pop machine looks awesome!
Angela @ MyPinkyToes says
This is hilarious because my little sister and I were talking just last night about the games we used to play in the pool when we were young…and we always did craziest hair-dos in the water, and the “George Washington” was always a classic!!!
Vanessa N says
I don’t care for soda so much but I would have a field day with that machine. A seltzer machine would also be amazing.
And I love your swimsuit. I live in New England so I’m only in a swimsuit about two months of the year, but it’s still one of my favorite things to buy.
Chelcie says
Sprite zero is literally my favorite but I havent seen the Sprite zero vanilla flavor yet! so jealous!
Cait's Plate says
Hahahaha – I used to do those SAME things in the pool. My sisters and I literally entertained ourselves for HOURS with crazy hair games in the pool – This post just made me feel way more normal 🙂
Danielle says
I’m a huge reader, and I had also heard great things about The Glass Castle. I really wanted to like it as well, but I seriously could not get myself into it. I would even go so far as saying that I almost hated it…and I never hate books! Lol.
There was just something about it…like, I was constantly waiting for the actual story to begin, and waiting for the good parts that (should) have been there because of everyone else’s rave reviews.
Oh well…can’t win ’em all 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
i feel ya! did you get through the whole thing? b/c i’m waiting for something to happen and it just… isn’t.
Danielle says
I did get through the whole thing, but it was a struggle. The only reason I made myself power through was because a friend had highly recommended it to me, so I wanted to give it an honest go. In the end though, I definitely didn’t agree with her glowing recommendation 😉
Alaina says
First: Love those soda machines! I don’t drink a whole lot of soda either, but I had a fun time with those at Kelly’s Roast Beef.
Second: Totally used to do the president in the pool! Too funny. 🙂
Cait @ Cait hates Cake says
One benefit of living out of a hotel – the pool! Looks like fun!
Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean says
haha my friends and i did the president thing with our hair all the time at the pool. we called it the martha washington 🙂
Siena says
I really want to use one of those coke machines!! I hear about them all the time but I never actually see one!
Kristi says
I just went to one of those coke machines yesterday for the first time. I wanted to try so many of the flavors, but finally decided on diet cherry dr. pepper. I like the idea you had to mix some of the flavors (*mental note for next time*)
dana a. says
haha, love the hair thing!
i went to wendy’s a few months ago and they had one of those coke machines. i thought it was awesome!
