I flew thorough lunch today and enjoyed every bite.
I made myself a lettuceless salad that included:
- Kidney beans
- Edamame
- Sweet corn
- Cucumber
- Beets
- Water chestnuts
- Honey mustard dressing
It was pretty darn delicious!
On the side I enjoyed a cup of Chobani strawberry banana Greek yogurt. This flavor is a great one to try if you’re new to the whole Greek yogurt thang. It is sweet, flavorful and oh-so-creamy.
I was initially concerned that I wouldn’t be full after this lunch, but I definitely felt satisfied. Beans + edamame + Greek yogurt = filling.
I’m Such a Sucker
Those Rock ‘n’ Roll marketing people sure know what they’re doing.
Less than two weeks after running in the Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon on August 1, I received an email from the Rock ‘n’ Rollers about another half marathon that was just added to the race schedule: Savannah, Georgia!
Last year Ryan and I visited Savannah en route to a wedding in North Carolina and loved the city! Savannah is unbelievably adorable and we had a great time exploring the area and learning about the history of the city on a historic trolley tour.
Since I adore Savannah and had such a great experience with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago half, I emailed Ryan about the race. He said it sounded like a great one and would happily come with me to Savannah to cheer me on.
That’s all I needed! I used the sch-weet coupon code for $30 off my race registration from the email I received and signed up! I’m such a sucker for coupons.
Now you know where to find me on November 5, 2011! (While I’m there you better believe I plan on hittin’ up Paula Deen’s restaurant! YUM!)
Immediately after registering, I emailed Ryan to let him know I signed up under his last name. I already received a confirmation email addressed to me with his last name on it and it feels so crazy! I can’t believe we’ll be married in 2 ½ months!

I have always wanted to visit Savannah! I’ve heard it’s amazing! I’m glad you are enjoying the half marathon distance. Do you think you’ll every bump up and run a full?
peanutbutterfingers says
ehhhh not sure. i used to think i would want to run a full at some point in my life… but that’s a whole lotta running… 😉
Heather says

Alicia says

Jessica @ How Sweet says
I am not a coupon clipper… and I need to be. Oh how my husband wishes I was…
Bethany @ More Fruit Please says
Wow, I find it very inspiring that you’re already setting a new goal and milestone for yourself after just completing a half! And dangit, where did you find strawberry banana Chobani yogurt? I just found Pineapple in the store the other day for the first time and thought that was a big deal!
peanutbutterfingers says
thanks… but i have more than a year to prepare for it! 😀
i actually found it at my local grocery store (publix).
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
I loooove Savannah! My best friend went to pharmacy school there, so we all basically lived there one summer… between the beach, the history, the food and the fun bars, it’s one of the best places to visit! Especially River Street on St Patrick’s Day— craziness!
Janna's Keeping it Real! says
i am totally a coupon clipper….and unfortunately/fortunately because of darn coupons, i probably end up with more stuff/events than i really need…in my mind though, $1 off of 8 sponges is better than no sponges at all. lol
myFOODevents says
Both exciting bits of info! Good luck with the training and the last 2 1/2 months of running around getting ready for the wedding 🙂
Amanda at Run4Ayden says
I have always wanted to try one of the Rock N Roll Marathons! If I still live (somewhat) close to Savannah, I’m doing it!
I refuse to buy anything online without checking for a code on retailmenot.com first!
peanutbutterfingers says
i ALWAYS check that site! they have awesome coupon codes for victoria’s secret.
Shanna, like Banana says
I have never been to Savannah..actually I haven’t been to many places in the South because I fear the heat..haha!
Kudos to you for setting up another run so soon.
And btw, it took me nearly 8 months to get used to my new last name!
Michelle says
I LOVE coupons!! Any time I come home with a sweet deal, I get all excited when I tell my husband about it and he just kind of shakes his head at me. (But secretly I know he likes that I save us so much money!)
Allison says
I’m always a sucker for coupons, especially from Barnes & Noble!
Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place says
i love savannah, too! such a cute town!
it’s weird to start using your fiance/husbands last name, isn’t it! I thought it was so weird and exciting at the same time.
Chaaron says
I am a serious email coupon person. I get groupon emails daily (and have taken advantage of quite a few), I get my weekly email on specials from Harris Teeter and I can hardly stop myself from purchasing something from ideeli or Rue La La on a weekly basis. I am a sucker for a good deal. And that explains all of the cute summer dresses now hanging in my closet.
Have fun getting used to your new last name. I had a hard time getting used to mine because my maiden name was so unique and people could actually pronounce and spell my married name. What a welcome change!
Merri says
Aww this post is cute Julie!! I’m excited for ya’, maybe I’ll run it with you, but I dont know where I’ll be in a year so…we’ll see!
P.S. I think I will ALWAYS call you JB, JF just doesnt have the same ring to it 🙂
See ya’ lata gata!
Mel says
Congrats on signing up! ROCK it! hehe
Love coupons!
Groupon.com is my obsession!! If you’re not signed up, you just definitely check it out – they feature a sweet “deal of the day” of hot things to do in your city (ie: restaurants, work out spots, spas, museums) and e-mail it to you everyday! Examples are like paying $20 for $40 worth of restaurant food, $30 messages and discounted yoga places!
My best friend works there so I’m always hearing about the funny office antics, which makes it even better 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
totally agree- groupon rocks!
lisaou11 says
ahh congrats on signing up!

I actually just moved to Savannah a month ago and was passing by the square when they were making the press conference announcement about the Rock n Roll coming to Savannah in 2011. I haven’t run a half marathon yet but I plan on running that one so very exciting:)
Sara says
I would LOVE to go to Paula Dean’s restuarant. I’ve never been to Savannah, but it’s one of the place that I would like to go to. I’m a big coupon clipper. I few minutes of clipping can save you a bunch at the grocery store.
Chicago Cuisine Critique says
Good for you! That sounds like a ton of fun! Savannah is a pretty cute little town. And I think Paula Deen’s restaurant would be awesome! I can’t wait to hear all about it. 🙂
Emily says
The best salads are lettuce-less salads in my opinion! I’m an obsessive coupon clipper but I always forget to bring them to the store. Not a very effective money-saving method.
Kat says
I am definitely a coupon clipper! I usually go by the “If I wasn’t going to buy it before I had a coupon, I probably still don’t need it” rule. $30 off on a race registration is pretty freaking awesome though, I don’t think I would have passed that one up.
Ally @ Sweet & Savory says
I’m a huge coupon clipper….love ’em!
kristina682 says
Congratulations.. that will be so much fun. My cousin (who ironically is also from Florida) went to Paula Deen’s restaurant and said it was AHMAZING!
Leah says
JB! I will definitely run this with you. I’m not sure if you and Ryan are planning on making a vacation out of it, and if you are I won’t intrude… But, if you’re not I’ve been dying to go to Savannah and this sounds like the perfect excuse to go 🙂
christina cadden says
Ooh, looks like a great place! Maybe by then I will be able to run 13.1 miles!
Amber K says
I love clipping coupons, but they won’t make me buy things I wouldn’t otherwise. Try a brand-new product—maybe! If it isn’t full of preservatives and junk.
Summer says
I love a good lettuce-less salad. You’re meals always look so scrumptious.
Have you ever been to mambosprouts.com? They have great coupons for healthy and organic food that you can print out and use at any grocery store.
Kelly says
Wow they already have registration open for a half more than a year away? That’s exciting though, I’ve always wanted to visit Savannah.
Monica says
I changed the last name on my magazine subscriptions a couple months before my wedding because I was so darn excited!
I even saved our first official piece of mail as a Mrs & Mrs – what can I say? I am old fashioned like that. 🙂
emily says
I have a coupon *problem!* Why I saw the coupons in my swag bag from BlogHer I was so excited I actually got a bit teary eyed!! 🙂
Lizzy @ LBBakes says
I definitely get sucked into things with coupon and discount offers! Worst one? The $10-$15 off coupons at DSW. Gets me every time 🙂
Sarah says
i am so into coupons. and it’s the best. i haven’t bought toiletries with “real” money in almost 2 years!
Leslie says
Haha I like your quote in the article! The whole Bream family is apparently part bear!
Nicole says
I love that my very first comment on your blog is making me look like a cheap-o/moocher…but I just have to ask, does the coupon code you used work for other people interested in registering (such as myself) or would it only work for you since you are a past Rock N’ Roll participant?
I having been wanting to run a Rock N’ Roll race for awhile and was highly considering the Nashville race next April. However, I now know that it will be Savannah all the way! One of my very best friends (who is also my running/race partner) just moved to Savannah so it is too perfect!
P.S.-Your blog is fun and I have gotten many food related inspirations from you! I recently started reading after seeing your blog featured on SkinnyRunner!
balancejoyanddelicias says
it’s so exciting that you already signed up for another half!!!! 😀 I am totally a coupon user. every time buy something online, I’ll google coupon first!

JunieB says
i alllllllllllllmost signed up for this one because it was $50 for the first 500 or something like that. but when i thought about it…i was like ARE YOU CRAZY? thats over a year away you goon! ;o) … i need to get through Chicago (full), Dallas (half) and Houston (full) by the end of Jan 2011. i cant go thinking about a year from now!
but now im sad. i could have met you 🙂
Megan says
Too funny! I ran the Rock ‘n Roll Nashville half this year and got that email. I’m so tempted to sign up for Savannah (yes, mostly because of the coupon) but I’m nervous to plan it this far out. Still might have to go for it…
Erika says
I am such a coupon-clipper! I always ask my mom if I can cut out the coupons. LOL! (Plus, if I find something I like and I find a coupon for it I can usually get it.) 😉
Natalie says
Ohmygoodness, am I a coupon clipper?? I had actually never clipped a coupon in my life until Ben and I were married a month ago. Now I am the self-proclaimed “Coupon Queen!” I am definitely considering the Savannah half after your post. I am absolutely obsessed with Savannah. My family and I stopped there for a few days before heading to Hilton Head, South Carolina, a couple of summers ago. We did get to visit The Lady & Sons and you HAVE to go! It is delicious!
Brooke says
If you loved Savannah you HAVE to come to Charleston! The food & beverage industry is huge here, LOTS of yummy food!! And even more to see than Savannah. They have the Kiawah Half and whole Marathon in December. Here is the link! http://www.kiawahresort.com/recreation/marathon/
peanutbutterfingers says
aw that sounds awesome!

I love this picture of you and Ryan!!

I do like the way you have presented this problem plus it does indeed offer us a lot of fodder for thought. Nonetheless, through what I have personally seen, I really trust when the actual responses pile on that people today continue to be on point and don’t embark upon a soap box involving some other news of the day. Yet, thank you for this fantastic point and although I can not agree with it in totality, I regard the standpoint.
Savannah Runner says
Can you tell me where you got your coupon code for the savannah half marathon? Thanks
peanutbutterfingers says
it was emailed to me but it’s expired now. 🙁
Jes Kalb says
where did you find the coupon for the Marathon??
