1.) Last night my friend Merri, Ryan and I had a great time watching the season finale of So You Think You Can Dance. During the finale, the dancers performed some of the best routines featured throughout the season.
I think one of my favorite dances was the “My Chick Bad” hip hop dance that Lauren and Twitch totally killed! I think I loved it so much because I secretly wish I could dance hip hop like a bad ass. A girl can dream!
Here’s the video in case you missed it:

2.) Yesterday Ryan was tagged in a pretty phenomenal picture from his bachelor cruise on Facebook from the night that all of the guys dressed up in ’80s attire for the cruise’s formal night.
You gotta get a load of this…
(As you can see he took your advice and chose the ’80s outfit you guys voted for!)
3.) My friend Merri has been staying with us the past few days and has really bonded with Sadie.
Merri even confessed to talking to Sadie when they’ve been home alone together (something I do all the time). Merri also snapped an adorable picture of Sadie waiting for her to get ready in the morning that I thought you Sadie lovers out there might enjoy.
I have a feeling Sadie is going to go through Merri withdrawals when she leaves us tonight!
And there you have it! My three random musings. 😀
Breakfast
Holy random breakfast, Batman!
I really wanted to make oatmeal protein pancakes, but we were out of oatmeal and eggs, so I put together quite the random breakfast using a hodgepodge of food from the fridge and freezer.
Chobani Greek yogurt + Dole frozen mango + string cheese
I must say I was quite impressed with the frozen mango cubes. They were sweet and almost creamy and I really enjoyed eating them frozen! Plus, cutting up mango is in the top five of my “most annoying things to do” list, so I appreciated the convenience of the pre-cut fruit.
Totally random, but totally tasty. 😀
Workout
Today’s workout was a good one! Ryan and I initially planned to wake up at 5:30 so he could workout and I could take my typical 5:45 a.m. BodyPump class, but that wasn’t happening when the alarm went off today.
We decided to sleep in for a bit and I hit the gym around 6:40 for a total-body weights workout that looked like this:
(In case you’re interested, you may see one of my other go-to total-body workouts here.)
After pumpin’ some iron, I took Sadie on a quick one-mile walk around our neighborhood which made her a happy lil’ dawg.
Stay Tuned
Coming up on PBF: My post half marathon thoughts regarding training, body changes, appetite, the actual race, etc. I’m excited about this one! 😀
Question of the Morning
If you could be an awesome dancer in one style of dance, which style would you choose?
Though I think ballet and contemporary dance are absolutely beautiful, I would pick hip hop because I would love to be able to work this booty like a baller!
Drop it like it’s haaawt… 😀
Meg says
HAHA I love all the guys’ outfits! That rocks. Wow your breakfast is completely random – I never thought I’d see someone eat cheese for breakfast unless it’s in an omelet 😉 But random is delicious sometimes, of course!
Sadie is such an adorable dog, Julie, you are so blessed – she seems like such a character!! I think it’s so important when you own a pet, that they become a part of the family, therefore are allowed on the bed and any other piece of furniture they’d like, haha 😉
I’d wanna break dance, I think it’s so cool.
Enjoy your day!
peanutbutterfingers says
i love her. 🙂 she makes me happy every day. we always laugh when people ask us if she’s allowed on the couch… we’re like “well, we don’t really have a choice…” 😉
Meg says
It’s the exact same way in my house – it’s the dogs way or the highway 😉
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
i’m with you…i would totally do hip hop because i think i would use it more…i have no intentions of being a professional dancer, but i DO love to dance (even though i’m horribly horribly bad at it)!
peanutbutterfingers says
i’m terrible, too… though after a drink (or three) i begin to think i’m usher.
Chaaron says
I’m with you. I’ve always wanted to be a great hip hop dancer. I spent a bunch of years as a dance teacher and always felt so ridiculous when I had to teach a hip hop class.
sarahsscrumptioussamplings says
i’m a horrid dancer but i’ve always admired ballet because i’m a complete klutz and can only wish i was as graceful.
i’ve never tried frozen mango!? looks delicious. i’ve been enjoying frozen blueberries 🙂
sara says
I grew up dancing and did it all through college. For some reason I hate watching SYTYCD. Weird, I know. When I do watch, hip hop is usually my favorite because I wish I could move my body that way! I also love the slow lyricaly dances.
Jessica @ How Sweet says
I danced for 18 years and freaking love it… my favorite was hip hop tho. 🙂
Terri says
I love watching SYTYCD also! I think I would have to go with contemporary. They seem the most versital and it would be nice to be good and flexible.
Sarah says
great pics today! i wish i taken ballet as a kid… but i didn’t, alas. it’s so pretty! 🙂
Amy @ Second City Randomness says
Nothing wrong with a little randomness. 😉 Love it!
And I’d do hip hop, too- I wanna learn how to move my booty! My friend is a dance teacher who actually teaches it, so when we go out, I refuse to be standing by her when we hit the dance floor!
Nicole @ yuppieyogini.com says
Cute picture of Sadie on the bed. I’m not a big dog fan, but I think Sadie is starting to win me over 😉
Lizzy @ LBBakes says
Well, in a perfect world, I’d like to be trained by a professional ballroom dancer DWTS style. 🙂
I love how you can see all those people in the background of the bachelor cruise picture staring at all the guys. They’re all like, ‘those guys are nuts!’ 🙂
Erika says
I just watched that video – I agree with you – I wish I could dance like that! I am a terrible dancer. 😛
Brittany says
Oh I really like watching SYTYCD, but I just didn’t have the time to get into this season 🙁
I would love love love to be able to dance Hip Hop, I mean the way they can move is pretty unreal… I’m just not that coordinated – I would be a hot mess for sure! LOL
Samantha says
I ALWAYS talk to animals. They are such great listeners and rarely interrupt hah. I just like when they give kisses after you’ve stopped. Even though they might have no idea what you just said they can still sense emotion! My dog always knows when one of our family members isn’t feeling well or if they are sad.
peanutbutterfingers says
aw, this made me smile!
Amy @VitaminAmy says
I’ve been dancing ballet since I was 3 yrs old so that is definitely my favorite kind of dance and I do it well. I’ve also done modern/contemporary for about 5 years. Although, I think it would be sweet to move like a hip hop dancer! I think I’m too graceful for that haha 😛
Lindsay says
I loved watching the SYTYCD finale and was so proud of Lauren for winning. Girlie can shake it like it ain’t no thang….I loved both of her routines with Twitch, and I so wish I could dance like that. I wish I could dance….at all. Lol. As much as I admire beautiful ballet and jazz routines, hip hop just seems like it would be so fun and empowering to try out.
lisaou11 says
I think I’d wanna do like ballroom–salsa, samba, etc. Looks fun and sexy! :).
Cate says
Oh how I wish I could dance well! I love watching SYTYCD and am amazed every week by their talent. It is hard to choose one style that I would like to be good at but contemporary and hip hop are definitely at the top. It would just be amazing to be able to dance like that!
and Sadie is one of the cutest dogs I have ever seen! adorable!
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman says
I’m a horrible, horrible dancer so I’d take what I could get. Even if that meant I was awesome at the polka. I’d take it.
Marg says
I’m all for hip-hop. I love to dance and think I’m much better than I really can dance. I love doing Zumba now, because I can shake it.
Kelly says
Haha that’s an awesome picture! I would love to just be able to do any kind of dancing, haha. I’m awful.
Shanna, like Banana says
I was a dancer my whole life and in HS I was on the dance team where we did quite a bit of hip-hop and there is so much energy and power in it!
But I think I’d like to do contemporary..it’s just too gorgeous for words.
Loved so many of Dance’s finales on Wed night!
Jodi says
I, too, had frozen mango as part of my breakfast this morning, but I took a different approach you might like to try. Take a cup of any kind of frozen fruit (I like doing this with a tropical medley that includes mango, or with frozen mixed berries) and mix them in with yogurt. Pop the whole thing back in the freezer for 10 minutes or so. The yogurt sticks to the fruit and freezes, making a tasty coating. It’s amazing and quite addictive. Frozen banana slices go nicely in a frozen fruit/yog mixture, too.
Sweet and Fit says
Lauren is amazing! I dance vicariously though her =)
Sara says
Ha ha, what a great picture of the guys! I’ve never seen SYTYCD, but I’ve heard it’s good. I’m more a fan of Dancing with the Stars…so I think I’d want to be really good at ballroom dancing.
Angela says
I had mango this morning too. It was delicious. Nothing random about that breakfast. Well maybe the string cheese 🙂
That’s a really tough question. I wish so much that I was a dancer, despite years of training growing up I am just not a natural. I honestly would love hip hop because its so useful socially, but I LOVE ballet. So graceful and beautiful so that would probably be my pick.
Amber K says
I would love to be able to just dance in general without looking like a moron. Although, come to think of it, my lack fo talent has never stopped me!
cardiopizza says
I love that picture of Sadie and her snaggletooth lol!
lowandbhold says
The finale was SOOO good last night, I loved watching the performances and thought Ellen was hilarious at the end. I was totally happy for Lauren too, she’s amazing and I kind of want to be her.
I think I’d choose hip hop too, it’s just so fun.
Tina says
LOVED that dance! I was surprised she won. In a good way though because I really liked her.
And I would have to choose hip-hop too. After all that is what people want to see when you’re out with friends. You don’t bust a ballet move at parties.
Kristy at kristyruns.com says
I had frozen mango cubes in my SIAB this morning! Sooo easy and tasty! 🙂
Monica says
Ballet! I use to watch Center Stage over and over again – I love how graceful ballet is!
Merri says
Hahaha…I think I might go through Sadie withdrawals! <3 Her!
40apples says
Frozen mango is a great snack! I buy Trader Joe’s mango chunks and just eat them with my fingers. Such a perfect summer treat!
I’ve always had a serious obsession with break-dancing, believe it or not. I really, REALLY wanted to be on our high school’s b-boy team. (unfortunately my skills only go as far as a basic “robot”…)
erica says
i’d want to do hip hop!!! (but a tiny bit of me would like to be able to dance on pointe too…a little 5yr old girl dream i had)
lovin all the guys 80s outfits…so much fun!
mm says
I love the other people on the cruise staring at the guys in the background of that picture! haha.
As far as dancing, I’ve done quite a bit of hip hop dancing, and I took Jazz and Ballet when I was kid for a few years.
If I were going to learn a new style, or perfect a style – it would be a toss up between latin style dancing, and tap. I know tap sounds random, but I love old school musicals, and when I watch Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire getting after it, I always think how much fun that would be – and a great workout!! 🙂
Katelin says
I LOVE SYTYCD!!!!!! lol I think it’s the only show that can make me tear up (after contemporary dances) one minute and the next jump off the couch & go run (after hip-hop). Did you see Twitch & Alex Wong’s hip-hop dance? that was awesome too?
Kelly (Running Phoodie) says
“My chick bad” was one of my favorites this season too 🙂
