For Your Entertainment

August 13, 2010 by Julie 43 Comments

I’m feeling a little random this morning, so here are a couple of random musings for your entertainment!

1.) Last night my friend Merri, Ryan and I had a great time watching the season finale of So You Think You Can Dance. During the finale, the dancers performed some of the best routines featured throughout the season.

I think one of my favorite dances was the “My Chick Bad” hip hop dance that Lauren and Twitch totally killed! I think I loved it so much because I secretly wish I could dance hip hop like a bad ass. A girl can dream!

Here’s the video in case you missed it:

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XJVyn9x5BI&feature=related]

2.) Yesterday Ryan was tagged in a pretty phenomenal picture from his bachelor cruise on Facebook from the night that all of the guys dressed up in ’80s attire for the cruise’s formal night.

You gotta get a load of this…

Ryan's Bachelor Cruise

(As you can see he took your advice and chose the ’80s outfit you guys voted for!)

3.) My friend Merri has been staying with us the past few days and has really bonded with Sadie.

Sadie the Snaggletooth

Merri even confessed to talking to Sadie when they’ve been home alone together (something I do all the time). Merri also snapped an adorable picture of Sadie waiting for her to get ready in the morning that I thought you Sadie lovers out there might enjoy.

"Hurry Up, Miss Merri! It's Time to Play!!!"

I have a feeling Sadie is going to go through Merri withdrawals when she leaves us tonight!

And there you have it! My three random musings. 😀

Breakfast

Holy random breakfast, Batman!

I really wanted to make oatmeal protein pancakes, but we were out of oatmeal and eggs, so I put together quite the random breakfast using a hodgepodge of food from the fridge and freezer.

Friday's Random Breakfast

Chobani Greek yogurt + Dole frozen mango + string cheese

I must say I was quite impressed with the frozen mango cubes. They were sweet and almost creamy and I really enjoyed eating them frozen! Plus, cutting up mango is in the top five of my “most annoying things to do” list, so I appreciated the convenience of the pre-cut fruit.

Frozen Mango Cubes

Totally random, but totally tasty. 😀

Workout

Today’s workout was a good one! Ryan and I initially planned to wake up at 5:30 so he could workout and I could take my typical 5:45 a.m. BodyPump class, but that wasn’t happening when the alarm went off today.

We decided to sleep in for a bit and I hit the gym around 6:40 for a total-body weights workout that looked like this:

Total-body Workout

(In case you’re interested, you may see one of my other go-to total-body workouts here.)

After pumpin’ some iron, I took Sadie on a quick one-mile walk around our neighborhood which made her a happy lil’ dawg.

"Thanks for the Walk. Now Let's Go Again."

Stay Tuned

Coming up on PBF: My post half marathon thoughts regarding training, body changes, appetite, the actual race, etc. I’m excited about this one! 😀

Question of the Morning

If you could be an awesome dancer in one style of dance, which style would you choose?

Though I think ballet and contemporary dance are absolutely beautiful, I would pick hip hop because I would love to be able to work this booty like a baller!

Drop it like it’s haaawt… 😀

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

HAHA I love all the guys’ outfits! That rocks. Wow your breakfast is completely random – I never thought I’d see someone eat cheese for breakfast unless it’s in an omelet 😉 But random is delicious sometimes, of course!

Sadie is such an adorable dog, Julie, you are so blessed – she seems like such a character!! I think it’s so important when you own a pet, that they become a part of the family, therefore are allowed on the bed and any other piece of furniture they’d like, haha 😉

I’d wanna break dance, I think it’s so cool.

    Enjoy your day!

I’m with you. I’ve always wanted to be a great hip hop dancer. I spent a bunch of years as a dance teacher and always felt so ridiculous when I had to teach a hip hop class.

I grew up dancing and did it all through college. For some reason I hate watching SYTYCD. Weird, I know. When I do watch, hip hop is usually my favorite because I wish I could move my body that way! I also love the slow lyricaly dances.

Nothing wrong with a little randomness. 😉 Love it!

And I’d do hip hop, too- I wanna learn how to move my booty! My friend is a dance teacher who actually teaches it, so when we go out, I refuse to be standing by her when we hit the dance floor!

Well, in a perfect world, I’d like to be trained by a professional ballroom dancer DWTS style. 🙂

I love how you can see all those people in the background of the bachelor cruise picture staring at all the guys. They’re all like, ‘those guys are nuts!’ 🙂

I would love love love to be able to dance Hip Hop, I mean the way they can move is pretty unreal… I’m just not that coordinated – I would be a hot mess for sure! LOL

I ALWAYS talk to animals. They are such great listeners and rarely interrupt hah. I just like when they give kisses after you’ve stopped. Even though they might have no idea what you just said they can still sense emotion! My dog always knows when one of our family members isn’t feeling well or if they are sad.

I’ve been dancing ballet since I was 3 yrs old so that is definitely my favorite kind of dance and I do it well. I’ve also done modern/contemporary for about 5 years. Although, I think it would be sweet to move like a hip hop dancer! I think I’m too graceful for that haha 😛

I loved watching the SYTYCD finale and was so proud of Lauren for winning. Girlie can shake it like it ain’t no thang….I loved both of her routines with Twitch, and I so wish I could dance like that. I wish I could dance….at all. Lol. As much as I admire beautiful ballet and jazz routines, hip hop just seems like it would be so fun and empowering to try out.

and Sadie is one of the cutest dogs I have ever seen! adorable!

I was a dancer my whole life and in HS I was on the dance team where we did quite a bit of hip-hop and there is so much energy and power in it!

But I think I’d like to do contemporary..it’s just too gorgeous for words.

Loved so many of Dance’s finales on Wed night!

I, too, had frozen mango as part of my breakfast this morning, but I took a different approach you might like to try. Take a cup of any kind of frozen fruit (I like doing this with a tropical medley that includes mango, or with frozen mixed berries) and mix them in with yogurt. Pop the whole thing back in the freezer for 10 minutes or so. The yogurt sticks to the fruit and freezes, making a tasty coating. It’s amazing and quite addictive. Frozen banana slices go nicely in a frozen fruit/yog mixture, too.

I had mango this morning too. It was delicious. Nothing random about that breakfast. Well maybe the string cheese 🙂

That’s a really tough question. I wish so much that I was a dancer, despite years of training growing up I am just not a natural. I honestly would love hip hop because its so useful socially, but I LOVE ballet. So graceful and beautiful so that would probably be my pick.

LOVED that dance! I was surprised she won. In a good way though because I really liked her.

And I would have to choose hip-hop too. After all that is what people want to see when you’re out with friends. You don’t bust a ballet move at parties.

I’ve always had a serious obsession with break-dancing, believe it or not. I really, REALLY wanted to be on our high school’s b-boy team. (unfortunately my skills only go as far as a basic “robot”…)

As far as dancing, I’ve done quite a bit of hip hop dancing, and I took Jazz and Ballet when I was kid for a few years.
If I were going to learn a new style, or perfect a style – it would be a toss up between latin style dancing, and tap. I know tap sounds random, but I love old school musicals, and when I watch Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire getting after it, I always think how much fun that would be – and a great workout!! 🙂
