Movie number one was just as good as I remembered!
“To me, you are perfect.” Sighhhhh. 🙂
I loved reading all of your favorite movies to watch on days you’re feeling under the weather.
We share many of the same sick-day favorites, including my top-two favorite holiday movies:
- Elf
- Christmas Vacation
Nothin’ beats those two!
Next up on the agenda for Sick Julie’s holiday movie fest is this lil’ baby:I bought this movie a while ago in one of those $5 bins and watched it for the first time while puttering around the house. Needless to say, I don’t remember much about it!
Now that I’m all curled up on the couch in my fuzzy red cheetah socks, I hope to actually watch more more than 30 minutes of it. Hopefully it will be an uninterrupted movie, as I just polished off lunch and my tummy is nice and full.
Lunch
I dug into the freezer for today’s lunch since I was feeling super lazy and unmotivated.
Look what reared it’s ugly (but tasty!) head: I’m not lying when I say I used to eat Lean Pockets for lunch at least three days a week when I first graduated college. I thought I was being oh-so-healthy.
They’re definitely not the worst selection in the world, and they taste delicious, but they are not weight-loss in a box. Though I wasn’t trying to lose weight, I definitely didn’t drop any pounds when eating Lean Pockets and Lean Cuisines for lunch and dinner because they left me feeling less-than-satisfied. Much of the time, I’d end up eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich afterward.
Still, Lean Pockets are tasty and I had some in the freezer to use in a pinch and heated one up to enjoy today along with carrot slices and a mug of hot Celestial Seasonings gingerbread spice tea.
I think Ryan forgot to turn up the heat when he left for work this morning because it’s pretty darn cold in here. I am super-cheap and actually like to bundle up inside, so I think I’ll try to tough it. 😀
Off to Holiday it up!
Anne says
The Holiday is a great one, too! I love Jude Law in it (especially when he does “napkin face” with his little girls).
How about “The Family Man”?
peanutbutterfingers says
i may be the only one not on the jude law bandwagon… he doesn’t do much for me! i’ll definitely look into “the family man!”
Anne says
I guess Jude Law can be hit or miss, but he has some great moments in “The Holiday”. Of course Jack Black is “the nice guy” and just great! Plus, my Fiance and I love the little girls with British Accents! After we watched it he said “let’s have kids with British accents!”
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
who doesn’t love british accents?! i want one! 😀
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I loved Lean Cuisines and Lean Pockets a few years back too. I’m curious as to what I’d think of them now that I’m used to more fresh foods!! Definitely not the worst option though, like you said.
Enjoy The Holiday- it’s one of my favorites!!
Kaitlyn (College Girl Runs) says
I LOVE The Holiday! Feel better soon!
katie says
AHHHHH love the holiday!!!!!
jude law is def sexy!
Marina says
I’ve never seen The Holiday!
Lean pocket looks so good, sometimes I could use a simple meal like that, just from the freezer. But we don’t have many options like this over here :/
Pixie says
I used to eat a lot of prepackaged food that was marketed as “diet” food, but like you said I never lost weight while eating them. I’m surprised you didn’t eat soup and crackers, that’s my go to meal when I’m sick.
Are you feeling any better?
Brynn says
AhASh, two of my ALL TIME favorite movies! Hope you feel better!
erica says
hope you’re feeling better!
i don’t call it a sick-day movie, but i always love watching pride & prejudice (the one w/kiera knightly)!
Hope says
I hope you start feeling better soon! I love The Holiday! I love the scene where Cameron Diaz and dancing and singing alone in the house. That is so me! Keep warm! 🙂
Elizabeth says
I actually really like the holiday, though it’s become something of a joke between me and my boyfriend. Everytime we visit his dad’s house and watch TV on his big screen, the Holiday seems to ALWAYS be on. We’ve seen it in bits and pieces about ten times. Whenever we’re looking for a movie to watch, I always jokingly suggest The Holiday. It actually is pretty cute. Hope you like it!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
i love The Holiday…that’s one of my sick day movies too! i love the soundtrack…highly recommend you download it 🙂
Claire says
I’m totally watching Love Actually right now! “I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toooooes!” So good! Another Holiday movie is Home Alone, one of my faves. The Holiday is a mighty find choice though. Hope you feel better!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
“if you really love christmas… go on and let it shoooooow!”
Jenna says
I hope you enjoy the Holiday! I love that movie! Also, if you are into classics, you must check out “white christmas” with Bing Crosby. Circa 1954, the dancing and singing is amazing. I wish they still made movies like that!
Shanna, like Banana says
The holiday is GREAT! Love the England scenes..they make me feel warm and cozy!
Clare @ Fitting It All In says
The Holiday is one of my favorite movies!
And I remember so many summers spent eating only bagel bites and hot pockets 🙂 at least yours is LEAN!
Jackie (ananda prana) says

Angela says
The Holiday is a fabulous movie! My husband and I went to see it for our first wedding anniversary out at Downtown Disney 🙂 Good times.
Shannon @ Philadelphia Phitness Pharmacy says
I love love actually, elf, and Christmas vacation! They truly are some of the cutest and funniest Christmas movies. I’m jealous of your sick day as crazy as that sounds!! I’m finals central up here in Philadelphia, and its cold, busy, and sleepy. I like the family man, it’s a good “appreciate what you have before it’s gone” kind of movie. Now I’m sad and want to watch Christmas movies all day, but I have 3 more finals and Pharmacology is up next. I hope you feel better!!!
Liz says
I think I’ve said 10 times this week that I want to watch “Love Actually” this holiday season. Another movie I want to see again…. the original home alone. I think that might make a fun sick day movie 🙂
Anna says
I hope you feel better! Remember not to tough the cold out too much since you’re already trying to get better!
Don’t forget “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas!” 😉
We absolutely LOVE “Love Actually” we just can’t get enough of Bill Nighy! ….I feel it in my fingers…I feel it in my toes.. =)
Alyson @ Nourished Fitness says
How am I only now reading your blog?! Too funny, just watched The Holiday last night.. and I basically have a collection of all the Celestial Seasonings holiday teas. I love Gingerbread with a little English Toffee Syrup & Almond Milk. Yum!

I cannot even remember the last time I had a lean pocket! They look gross, but I remember them being good haha. Favorite holiday movie? THE SANTA CLAUSE. Hands down!
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
I definitely enjoyed The Holiday! I also like Elf (like you mentioned) and Grumpy/Grumpier Old Men–probably because I grew up very close to where the movie was filmed!!
Kacy says
You know I’m not sure I’ve ever seen Love Actually, I think I get it confused with The Holiday. Oops.
My favorite sick movie is Little Women!
tay says
I’m super cheap and love to bundle up inside too! My parents raised me in high 50 degree house temps lol. My roommate on the other hand turns on the heat when it’s 66 degrees inside…and 70 outside!!! Um no way Jose.
Feel better!
Leanne says
“I’m the third lobster in the nativity play”
“you mean to tell me that there were three lobsters present at the birth of Christ?”
“Duh…”
….I love love LOVE that movie so much.
This weekend I also watched two classics…
* It’s a wonderful life
* White Christmas
Both didn’t dissapoint 🙂 there’s something special about watching a movie that was made 60 years ago! <3 it really put me in the Christmas spirit.
Cynthia says
I love The Holiday! Wish I owned it so that I could watch it.
I used to eat Lean Pockets as well. I stopped because I realized that they didn’t feel me up very much. I definitely did not lose weight while eating them because I always ate more when I had those on the lunch menu. 🙂
Melissa says
I was going to suggest The Holiday when I saw your morning post, but didn’t get a chance. It’s my favorite holiday movie–I always watch it while I decorate. Hope you’re feeling better!!
jen says
I think I’m one of the few people who has never seen Love Actually, I have seen it all over the blog world lately so I’m going to add it to Netflix…pronto…as well as The Holiday.
Hope you feel better 🙂

Elf can cure ANYTHING! And those socks look like they can too 😉 they’re adorable! I love animal prints…especially when it’s fuzzy and warm!
Hope you feel better, Julie! Stay toasty!!
Lauren says
I watched both of those movies this weekend! I don’t usually like rom coms, but for some reason, ‘Love Actually’ warms my cold, cold heart. And since I was already weakened by that, well, it just seemed OK to go ahead and watch ‘The Holiday’ too!
Hope you feel better!
PS. ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ is also a good option!
Healthy Chocohlic says
Have fun watching the movies!!!!!! Hope you feel better soon!!!!
christina cadden says

LOL – I can’t think of Hot Pockets without hearing the Jim Gaffigan voice in my head. “Hottt Pocketttts.” They are tasty, though.

OMG!! Tis the season for finals and finals mean me and my bestie Heather need to de-stress every once in a while to Christmas music and funny seasonal movies–so we take up Love Actually and The Holiday 🙂
Jessica says
Ohhhhhhh – I had no idea they made Gingerbread tea – Yum! And I believe Celestial Tea is on sale at Publix this week!
I hear ya on trying to hold off on turning on the heat. I am the same way, but when the temp inside got down to 55 degrees, on came the heat! 🙂
I hope you’re feeling better!!!
Alison says
Christmas Vacation & Elf are my 2 favorites too! You have great taste! 😉 I bought The Holiday in BluRay and the picture is beautiful! Home Alone is also a favorite of mine.

Sometimes turning the heat on low and buddling up is just the best!
