Hip Hop Supastar!

January 6, 2011 by Julie 40 Comments

Let me just cut to the chase and say that tonight’s hip hop class was amaaaaazing!

I honestly had the best time.

This evening my friend Laurel and I headed to the Center for Contemporary Dance to take a hip hop class. (It was my one out-of-the-ordinary workout for January!)

I was actually pretty nervous leading up to the class. I am by no means a good dancer and was worried I would feel awful and look totally out of place.

I mean does this look like the face of a hip hop dancer?  chicago bachelorette party 066Didn’t think so.

But somehow once the class began I didn’t feel uncomfortable. Sure I couldn’t drop it quite as hot as some of the other dancers, but I held my own and had a blast!

We spent about half of the class mimicking the teacher… in the squat position. My thighs were burning. I now know why dancers have such amazing legs. Phew!

The other half of the class was dedicated to learning a short routine to Dirty Money by P.Diddy. The teacher did a great job of repeating the movements over and over so we could all catch on.

Laurel and I are going to practice our routine over and over again and bust it out at the clubs unbeknownst to anyone, like Monica and Ross.

Watch out Downtown Orlando! 😀

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Ha, that photo is awesome. I took a ballet-type toning class a few months ago and OHMYGOSH my legs were BURNING!! I used to think my legs were the strongest part of my body, but it made me reconsider that!

That sounds like a blast!! I did a leg workout with my Dad (of all people) last week and I couldn’t sit for days! I literally had to just fall down in chairs. lol

Sounds like fun! I once tried a hip-hop class at my gym but the teacher didnt do a good job of explaining anything and I felt pretty stupid…never went back!

Go, Julie!! I’m not much of a dancer either, but I’ve enjoyed a hip hop class or two in my day. Granted, I was in the back of the class bustin’ a move, but I had one heck of a time!

If I had a nickel for every time I made a Pringles duck bill, I’d probably be Bill Gates. 😉

I bet you looked adorable hip-hop dancing! You could never look silly, unless you did what my mom did in zumba the other day… she volunteered to wear the instructors belly dancing skirt bc it ‘made her shake more’– aka get a better workout. OMG I about DIED when shetold me this!

I did a Zumba class last quarter which also involved dancing around and looking rather ridiculous while doing so (it was SO hard to keep up!) but it was also so much fun! And just makes you feel sexy even when you know you’re not quiiiite doing it right 😉
