I honestly had the best time.
This evening my friend Laurel and I headed to the Center for Contemporary Dance to take a hip hop class. (It was my one out-of-the-ordinary workout for January!)
I was actually pretty nervous leading up to the class. I am by no means a good dancer and was worried I would feel awful and look totally out of place.
I mean does this look like the face of a hip hop dancer? Didn’t think so.
But somehow once the class began I didn’t feel uncomfortable. Sure I couldn’t drop it quite as hot as some of the other dancers, but I held my own and had a blast!
We spent about half of the class mimicking the teacher… in the squat position. My thighs were burning. I now know why dancers have such amazing legs. Phew!
The other half of the class was dedicated to learning a short routine to Dirty Money by P.Diddy. The teacher did a great job of repeating the movements over and over so we could all catch on.
Laurel and I are going to practice our routine over and over again and bust it out at the clubs unbeknownst to anyone, like Monica and Ross.
Watch out Downtown Orlando! 😀
Ha, that photo is awesome. I took a ballet-type toning class a few months ago and OHMYGOSH my legs were BURNING!! I used to think my legs were the strongest part of my body, but it made me reconsider that!
That sounds like a blast!! I did a leg workout with my Dad (of all people) last week and I couldn’t sit for days! I literally had to just fall down in chairs. lol
Sounds like fun! I once tried a hip-hop class at my gym but the teacher didnt do a good job of explaining anything and I felt pretty stupid…never went back!
LOVE that you just referenced “the routine” — by far one of my favorite Friends episodes!
so, so funny! if you ever want to quote or reference friends episodes, i’m your girl!
Oh my gosh, that’s awesome – I’d be so embarrassed at a hip hop class!
Go, Julie!! I’m not much of a dancer either, but I’ve enjoyed a hip hop class or two in my day. Granted, I was in the back of the class bustin’ a move, but I had one heck of a time!
If I had a nickel for every time I made a Pringles duck bill, I’d probably be Bill Gates. 😉
I’m gald you had fun! I’m not a dancer either! I mean I can drop it low kinda but not when It comes to following the lead of others I suck! HA
I actually did a so you think you can dance “get fit” video in Aerobics today! it was kinda fun!
Ahhh that class sounds like so much fun! I love how cardio-dance-like classes always have such fun-loving people in them. No one cares how ya look!
Just out of curiosity, were there any guys in attendance?
I LOVE surprising myself with fun classes 😀 Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh, and only you have the ability to look stunning with a Pringle duck face!
Haha..what a visual (Monica and Ross)..love it! Take a video and post it ;-P
Were there guys in the class? My husband is dying to learn hip-hop dance but he feels weird if he’s the only guy.
I bet you looked adorable hip-hop dancing! You could never look silly, unless you did what my mom did in zumba the other day… she volunteered to wear the instructors belly dancing skirt bc it ‘made her shake more’– aka get a better workout. OMG I about DIED when shetold me this!
The Friends reference just made my day. 🙂
I’m so jealous – I want to take a hip hop class so badly, but there are none here. Boo. I think you need to post a video of the dance ;P
and love the Friends reference – love that episode!
That would be so much fun!! But yeah, I’d totally have a duck face going on the entire time. 😛
Haha, I love hip hop! I’m not good at it at all, but I love it! 😉
I teach quite a few different types of group exercise classes, and let me tell you when I first started teaching hip hop I would be sore for days!! Especially my back from all of that “popping.” 🙂 I’m definitely no Beyonce, but we had fun!
I love that episode of friends and Monica and Ross’ dance! 🙂
“Happy No Year!”
Keep up with the out of the ordinary workouts! The dance classes at the gym are so much fun!
PS Didn’t P.Diddy just change his name (again) ?
I did a Zumba class last quarter which also involved dancing around and looking rather ridiculous while doing so (it was SO hard to keep up!) but it was also so much fun! And just makes you feel sexy even when you know you’re not quiiiite doing it right 😉
I’m coming out of lurkdom to say hi! I love your blog! 🙂
I don’t even have to click on that monica and ross link to know exactly what your talking about, one of my favorite episodes, “The trouble with boys, the trouble with…” Nice workout!
Hip hop is so much fun! Maybe you should try a Zumba class sometime — they sometimes include ‘hip hop’.
ahahh that sounds awesome! i freakin love hip hop- glad you enjoyed!
I love that Friends episode…classic!
That sounds awesome! I’d like to try a class like that but I’m pretty much the most awkward person alive. The running man is my go-to move.
That sounds like such a fun class! I love dance classes. 🙂
I would enjoy a class like that! But I’m not sure I could follow the teacher though :))
Hahahaha I remember that episode of Friends!
Good for you trying something out of the ordinary! & look what happened… you found something you really liked! 🙂
Yay for hip hopp!
I think you should get ryan to throw down a rap!
LOVE that you included that clip! I had to click on it and watch it. Great way to start my work day! Friends is the best show ever!
Love the blog by the way. I’m running my first marathon in March in Atlanta and you have some great tips to help me stay motivated so thanks! Keep up the awesome job!
How fun!
So much fun! My sister and I used to bust out our choreographed routines at clubs back in the day. I’m embarrassed about it now but it was a lot of fun at the time1
i’m so glad to hear you say you had fun! my sister and i were going to try a Zumba class on New Year’s day but it was canceled…i was kind of relieved because i am SUCH a horrible dancer!
I love that episode! I love going to Zumba, but want to try out other classes too.
oohh, I would love a class like that! I love to dance!
Sounds like so much fun, although I don’t think I could do it!
FYI. I’ve been practicing all day 😉
Love the FRIENDS reference 😉 I don’t think there is any event in life that cannot be traced back to an episode of FRIENDS. So jealous of your hip-hop class. I’m going to have to look into that in my area!
Seems like you had a blast — just goes to show how much fun you can have if you try something new! I should look for a class in my town 🙂
that reference to monica and ross just made me seriously LOL…one of my fave episodes!
shake yo thang girl.
