This morning Ryan and I woke up around 8 a.m. and weren’t in the mood to go to the gym right away. We decided to put off our workout until around noon, as my gym offers a BodyPump class at that time that I would like to attend today.
This is a risky decision because I always say that if I don’t work out before 11 a.m. on the weekend, it’s just not happening. Perhaps today is the day I will break this pattern?
Breakfast
So far we’ve enjoyed a perfectly lazy morning and a fantastic hot breakfast.
I think dippy eggs are my favorite weekend breakfast. For some reason I never think to make them during the week, so they seem extra special on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
Naturally the dipping is the best part!
Time to entertain Sadie for a bit before tackling the busy day Ryan and I have planned. See ya after lunch!
Katie @ Healthy Heddleston says
Yay you call them dippy eggs too! Sometimes people look at me like I’m an alien when I call them dippy eggs instead of sunnyside up.
Sherry says
Your breakfast looks delish! I had chocolate protein oatmeal and it was tasty as well. I’m like you, I like to workout in the morning because the day can really get away from you and you may or may not have time to work out later. One thing I do if I don’t workout in the morning is set a time I will workout later and keep reminding myself that I’m going to workout at that specific time and try and get myself pumped up for my afternoon or evening workout. I bought a kettlebell and a new dvd to use with it so I’m going to do that later. I hope you have a great Saturday with whatever you decide to do!!
Carrie says
hope body pump is good! I’m the same as you- morning.. or nothing.. MAYBE in the evening, but that is RARE! ahah
Amanda (Eating Up) says
Your bagels always look perfectly toasted!
Hope says
I’ve never heard of dippy eggs before I started reading your blog. I always call them sunnyside up eggs. I absolutely love eggs like that too! So good! 🙂 Have a fun Saturday!
Gen says
I loooove eggs like that! The yolk is the best part!!!! =D
Kristen @ That Hoosier Girl says
I’m the same way with weekend workouts! And here I still sit…haven’t yet left for the gym. Argh
rebecca lustig says
there are definitely certain breakfasts I seem to only make on weekends, though I don’t know why! Makes them extra special, I suppose
Melissa says
I did the same thing this morning . . . planning to workout a little later & hoping it happens! I’m going to think of you as a virtual workout buddy today–I have to show up later because Julie will!
Trainer Kjirsten says
If I don’t workout before 10am, I know I wont do it!
Lisa (Dishes of Mrs. Fish) says
This post made me totally want dippy eggs.
So that’s what I had for breakfast. 🙂
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
I say the same thing about my workouts on weekends! If it doesn’t happen right away, I have a really hard time getting motivated to do it. However, last weekend I stuck to it AND I’m hoping it happens today too…since no workout has occurred yet. Hopefully it’ll be easier knowing there’s a class to attend. My gym doesn’t offer any classes past 10am on Saturdays…BOOO!
Megan@eatmybeets says
I hear ya on the am workouts. If I plan to go in the afternoon I always end up getting there later than I planned and having to decide where my workout is going to fit in between my meals. It’s much simpler to just get up and go in the morning. (Especially when there’s a class!)
Mac says
It doesn’t get any better than runny eggs with toast! That’s a weekend favorite of mine too 🙂
Livi says
Yum!!! I’m so with you on the dippy eggs being amazing…I eat one almost every day!! Have you ever thought of adding hummus to this brekkie?! It’s like my favorite thing EVER! Let me know if you try it:) Have a lovely day!
Annette says
I also like to get my workout in before 11 am because life just gets BUSY on the weekends…..good luck stickin’ to the plan!!
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
It felt weird not going out for a run this morning. I’m injured and I’m not allowed to do it for at least a few weeks. I did coach Girls on the Run this morning. Ah, I just feel so out of wack! Haha! Have a great day!
RoseRunner says
Yeah, the before noon rule…
I used to be that way too — the longer I put off the workout, the more likely it wouldn’t happen (ESPECIALLY if it is a run, because I just can’t run with much food in my belly).
But it’s almost the norm on weekends now, so I’ve lost that mindset and noon is my new “normal”. we just laze around all morning, eat breakfast, and then it’s time to sweat!
courtney @ the granola chronicles says
I hope you’re at the gym RIGHT NOW doing BodyPump! Hope you’re enjoying your Saturday! 🙂
Amber K says
Dip-dip eggs are the best! Dipping is definitely the best part 🙂
Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner) says
I love BodyPump! Although I do love morning workouts, I don’t mind later ones either!! They fit better into my timetable in the evening anyway, but I look forward to it the whole day! 😀

I completely agree – if I don’t workout in the mornings, then I pretty much do no exercise all weekend! Spending time with my boyfriends or friends just becomes too tempting, whereas in the morning I really have no excuses since everyone is asleep and the shops are still shut! So good luck with your noon BP class!
I remembered how you were trying to think of a few other recipes that require fennel, so I thought I would share my two favourite recipes with you. For the first one, you need only about 1 medium-sized fennel bulb per person and the dish can be eaten as a large starter or a small main. All you need to do is slice the fennel in circa 0.5cm thick slices, boil them in water for ca. 3 mins (they should still have some bite). Next, you fry the fennel slices in a bit of olive oil (ideally in a griddle pan so you get those nice marks from the griddle pan). And then you take 1 large mozarella ball, tear it into smaller pieces and some good Italian prosciuotto (e.g. Parma or San Daniele) and place this on a plate together with the grilled fennel. Season with a bit of sea salt and some freshly ground black pepper. The sweetness and warmth from the fennel together with the cool and creamy mozarella against the salty prosciutto is just an amazing combination! And, it’s an easy starter to put together for a larger crowd as well!
The other thing I like to do is putting slices of grilled fennel on a simple cannellini bean soup (pureed until completely smooth) – again, the sweet fennel contrasts nicely against the creamy salty soup.

I love that you call them dippy eggs! 🙂 That’s my family’s name for them, too. And, they really are something special for weekend mornings.
Have fun with Sadie!
Allison@ Happy Tales says
I like to work out pretty soon after I wake up on weekends, too. Otherwise it’s hard to break away from the day’s activities to fit it in!
Erica @ suBOURBON Tales says
I’m sure a lazy morning did you some good!
Unless you just sat around and ate froyo all day, like I would. That’s never a good plan.
Carrie says
Ok, I can never get my “dippy” eggs right; I can only seem to do scrambled & hard boiled, haha. Your’s look so yummy & perfect. How do you cook your eggs?!?
