AMA Round 15

February 17, 2011 by Julie 32 Comments

It’s that time again!

Time for Round 15 of Ask Me Anything questions selected from the anonymous questions you guys have submitted.

Ready, go!

Do you exercise on an empty stomach or with a little something in your belly? I know you are not an expert and even experts vary in their opinions, I was just wondering your take and because I personally wake up hungry!

It depends on the day. Most weekday mornings, I do not eat before I workout because I get cramps if I eat within an hour of exercising and I’m not about to wake up in the 4 a.m. hour just to eat. Also, I think my body is used to this, because if I wake up before 7 a.m., I’m not hungry. On the weekend when I wake up after 7 a.m., I am hungry and will typically eat a small meal about and hour or two before hitting the gym.

How did you decide to get a vizsla? Where did you find Sadie?

Please see this post for answers to these questions and other FAQs about Sadie.

How do you give Sadie a bath and how often?

Ummm… we don’t. Okay, that’s a lie, but we rarely need to bathe her. Fortunately vizslas are wonderful in that they don’t have the “dog smell” that other dogs do. We wash Sadie after romps at the dog park or after a day on the boat. Anytime she gets into lake or ocean water, we make sure to wash her because she has very sensitive skin. We’ve found that filling a bucket with water, soaping her up and and pouring the water over her little by little works best. She is not a fan of the bathtub or the hose.

Before creating your own PBF Facebook page, did you share your blog on your own Facebook account? Do your coworkers know about your blog?

It took me several months of blogging to feel comfortable with sharing my blog on my personal Facebook page. Eventually I started to fall in love with blogging and really wanted to share my blog with more people because I was pouring so much time, energy and love into it! I’m not going to lie, I was terrified to share my blog with people I knew other than my family and Ryan. A good handful of my coworkers know about my blog, but not all of them. It’s not something I broadcast around the office because I do try to keep my professional life separate from my personal life and my blog covers a lot of my personal life.

I love the cute little pack you take hiking. Is it Vera Bradley? Also, what do you put in it?

Yes, it is Vera Bradley! I take it with me to the dog park and hiking and I love it! Ryan and I typically keep water, my camera, his phone, keys, chap stick and snacks (like granola bars or an apple) in it when we go hiking.

Do you read all of your comments or do you scroll through the ones on the latest post only and then move onto your latest post?

I read every single comment that is posted on my blog, whether it is posted on a new post or an old post. I love hearing from you guys! For me, it’s one of the very best parts about blogging.

Do people ask you embarrassing or personal things on this anonymous question thing? What’s the funniest or most embarrassing thing you get asked?

I’ve received several questions about sexy time and prefer to keep the lovin’ talk off the blog. My parents read it and the one comment I made about consummation resulted in a text from my mom saying to “have fun consummating” on our honeymoon! I think I passed out.

How do you motivate yourself to go to the gym in the morning?

Please click here for my post on this topic!

I love the flavors of protein powder you use. What brand are they and where do you get them?

All of my protein powders are made by All the Whey and I purchased them on Nutraplanet.com. I bought big 5 lb. tubs of them more than a year ago and still have a bunch leftover. Unfortunately many of the flavors I use seem to sell out quickly and have been out of stock on the site for a while now.

What beauty products do you recommend? Perfumes, lotions, facial care, etc.?

You may see the makeup products I use daily here. As for other products I really enjoy, I am in love with Marc Anthony Instantly Thick shampoo and conditioner. I have the thinnest hair in the world and it’s the only brand that’s ever made my hair look and feel even slightly thicker.  My absolute favorite lotion is Dove Energy Glow because it does a great job of giving my body a subtle tan color without looking orange. Unfortunately it’s impossible to find and I haven’t been able to find it for several months now. As for perfume, I like Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue for work, J’adore Dior for fun nights out and Britney Spears Fantasy for date nights (it smells like vanilla). But, truth be told, I almost always forget to wear perfume.

All done! If your question was not answered, chances are I’ve addressed it before and didn’t want to bore the pants off people who have previously read my response.

I love your q&a’s! I always find it so weird when people can work out on an empty stomach. I absolutely can not do that. I sometimes have to stop working out and grab a granola bar because I get so hungry/lightheaded/nauseous from wanting food. But of course that’s my body, and I am known for eating more than my guy friends, but that’s ok 🙂

Great Q & A section! I too do not eat before working out as it makes me nauseated and I am not usually hungry RIGHT when I wake up. I prefer to eat after 🙂 Your text from your mother was hilarious…..haha

    omg what great questions, julie!

consummating and off the blog…lol but so true!

some things just dont need to have a permanent cyber record w/ 1000s of people reading about…for years to come in the archives.

I have learned that lesson…not about what you posted about , but just in general. 2 yrs ago starting blogging til now…yes, have lived and learned 🙂

Bad News, They discontinued Dove Energy Glow! I work for one of their Marketing agencies. I have a couple of bottles if you want me to send them to you! I don’t use it so more than happy to send them! I am a long time reader but coming out from my lurking place, because I know what its like to love a product and not be able to find it! Love your blog! 🙂

No need to pay me, I am sure if I paid for it, it was minimal at the company store. Might also slip in some local flavor 🙂 Send me your address when you get back from your relaxing vacay!

This post led me back to your honeymoon posts. As a newer reader I had no idea you went to Key West. That’s where my Hubz and I went for ours in 2009. We stayed in Key Largo and Key West and drove thru all the keys as well.

What a wonderful pick! We want to back again SOON 🙂

The Dove energy glow was discontinued which is probably why you can’t find it 🙁 It’s the BEST gradual tanning lotion ever and I think I cried for days when I heard the news. Oh well!

Thanks for posting about Sadie! My boyfriend and I really want a vizsla, and it’s nice to see someone so happy with one, as not many people have that breed. We do live in an apartment in Manhattan and I worry our vizsla would be cramped and not like it. I plan on taking any dog we get running though, so maybe that would make it okay? How much exercise does Sadie need?

she needs a lot of exercise… we take her on a 1 – 3 mi. walk every morning & then another 2 mile walk (or a trip to the dog park) after work & then she STILL has energy!

i’ve been reading you for a while now, but this is my first comment! i, too, have incredibly thin hair and i’m always looking for a way to add some volume to it! but i’m also really lazy with the prep process in the morning so i really just wash then air dry. do you think the shampoo you use would help even if i just air dry??

thanks so much for commenting! i’m not sure that it would be as effective w/ air-dried hair. when i let my hair air dry, i feel like it feels the same. :/
