At lunch today Ryan and I discussed our plans for the evening. Earlier this week, we talked about using a gift certificate to a fancy schmancy restaurant tonight, but at lunch we said we just weren’t feelin’ it. Since we’ve both been feeling slightly under the weather this week, a relaxing evening at home sounded much more appealing.
Before settling in for the night, however, we had some special errands to run.
Ryan dropped me off at Marshalls while he went to get his haircut nearby. I browsed around not planning on buying anything… but you know how that goes.
I nabbed this Calvin Klein dress for $30. (I definitely wouldn’t wear it with tights. I just didn’t feel like changing.)
Though I think the dress is really cute, these wedges were the find of the day!
Charles David nude wedges for $40? Sign me up!
Other errands took us to Sports Authority and PetSmart to pick up some rawhide chews for Sadie. While at the store, a puppy training class was about to begin and I just had to pet some of the little guys!
They were so, so adorable. I wish I could own a billion puppies!
Then it was time for the most important errand.
We walked into Bed Bath and Beyond and I could feel my excitement level rise. We had big plans for this store and headed right to the blenders.
It was time. Time to combine our wedding gift cards and buy the blender we’ve been talking about since we registered for gifts for our wedding.
The Vitamix!
We actually registered for two blenders for our wedding. One really nice one and one “dream” blender. Well, we received the really nice blender but held onto it and finally decided to return it and put the cost of that blender toward the ridiculously expensive Vitamix.
Get this: The Vitamix is $500. We had wedding gift cards, a 20 percent off coupon to Bed Bath and Beyond and the credit from the returned blender, so we nabbed this little baby for only $120!
After purchasing the Vitamix, we put it in our backseat and swung by Chipotle for a quick dinner.
I enjoyed a pork burrito and Ryan and I shared a side of chips and guacamole.
All I can say is that I really could’ve used a chipurro after dinner.
Once we were done eating, it was time to test the Vitamix’s power!
When I opened the Vitamix box at home, I was excited to find a recipe binder included!
When I told Ryan about this neat find, he said, “Well, for $500 I would hope so! I hope you also find a $100 bill in there!”
We figured blending up a simple smoothie would be a great way to see what the Vitamix can do.
Into the blender went:
- 1 c. frozen strawberries
- 3/4 c. blueberry yogurt
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1 c. cold water
The result? A perfectly blended smoothie.
The Vitamix blended this smoothie up in no time at all. The power this blender has is amazing and I cannot wait to make bazillions of different smoothies, soups and other creations with our new blender!
Off to hang with my little family for the rest of the night. So glad the weekend is here!

Ps- I know a lot of people can’t wrap their heads around the price, but it really is worth it. It can also make soup and ice cream, and even scramble your eggs. I also like that when I make fruit smoothies it pulverizes the seeds, which usually get stuck in my teeth

I really want a vitamix! And also a Dyson. When I told my husband that I really wanted a blender and a vacuum cleaner that would set us back about 1200 bucks altogether, he just stared at me. Ha!

woww I had no idea Vitamixes were that expensive! But it’s awesome that you only had to pay 120! : )

I liked your comparison trap post. I am really big on posting the good, bad and ugly so that my readers realize we all have normal lives. I’m not fancy, I fight with Ben, I drop things and eat too much. But, that’s kinda part of the fun of life, right?

I am planning to add Vitamix in our wedding registry, but I am doing it because it’s fun to add it on there. We don’t expect anyone to get it for us, but hopefully we’ll get the same deal as you guys did with giftcards and 20% off deal.
Congrats on your new Vitamix baby!

I want a vita-mix so badly! My husband and I have talked about it numerous times. Unfortunately, even spending $120 is just not in our budget! I’m dreaming of the day when I will steal….I mean be able to purchase one 😉

Julie,
You are such a thrifty shopper! From that amazing dress to the Vitamix I am always equally impressed (although in this case the vitamix is taking center stage).
I know you’ve done some posts on thriftiness such as on slick deals, and especially in regard to food but I was wondering if you could do a post on how you plan for purchases like the Vitamix.
I really want to buy a nicer camera AND a forerunner (AND a vitamix)… although I truly can’t afford ANY of the above right now, I was wondering if you had a method to finding great deals and/or planning when to buy.
I think this would be a great post but even just a response would be greatly appreciated!
Have a great evening!
