I am going to a good friend’s wedding in mid-May and I have a question…do you think it is acceptable to wear tights with a dress? Or what about nice dressy pants? I’m not a big fan of showing too much skin on myself, and I don’t know proper etiquette when it comes to what to wear at weddings–it’ll be my first.
where is the wedding? if it’s still a little chilly outside, definitely wear tights! also, nice pants are 100 percent acceptable for weddings! i would wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable, but still looks dressy and wedding-appropriate. there were women wearing nice pants with a light suit jacket last night who looked really sharp!
I live in Texas, where it can be super hot. 🙁 The wedding will be held in a church with reception following in the church gym.

Hey, Adrianne–as a frequent wedding guest/bridesmaid, I thought I could off up a few tips.
First, take a look at the invitation: see if there’s any indication of formality. There might be a stated dress-code (semi-formal, black tie, etc) which is very handy in this situation. If not, the venue will tell you a lot. Since it’s a church wedding with an informal venue for the reception, you’ll want to wear something relatively modest (skirts no shorter than an inch or two above the knee, no low necklines although strapless can be acceptable) but other than that most dressy-casual clothes would work. Dress pants with a nice top or light jacket/sweater, but be careful of heavier fabrics that might be too warm for a Texas summer.
When in doubt, a modest cocktail dress is always appropriate 😉
