When my parents offered to host a post-wedding brunch at their house the Sunday after our wedding, Ryan and I graciously accepted. At time time they offered, we had no idea how beneficial a post-wedding brunch really can be… especially when many of your guests fly in from out of town.
I never really recapped our post-wedding brunch on the blog, but it was such a great time and Ryan and I both said it helped alleviate some of the pressure we felt to converse at length with out-of-town guests on the day of our wedding since we knew we’d see them the following day.
My parents surprised us with a banner at our brunch. (The flowers at the bottom of the banner were actually two centerpieces from the tables at our reception!)
It was so fun, and I think that’s one of the reasons I was really looking forward to Carrie and Dru’s post-wedding brunch.
Ryan and I awoke around 8 a.m., which gave me just enough time to blog and slip into a skirt and tank top before heading to the brunch that began at 9 a.m.
The brunch took place on the rooftop of our hotel and overlooked downtown Ft. Myers and the river.
The brunch buffet had typical brunch fare of eggs, sausage and bacon, bagels, pancakes, danishes and fresh fruit.
The eggs were so cheesy with little bits of green pepper in them which I really liked a lot! They tasted like western-style scrambled eggs. Before we left the brunch, I actually snagged another two pieces of danish.
Fortunately everything sat well on my stomach!
After saying our goodbyes, Ryan and I came back to our mess of a room to pack.
I am such a messy traveler. If I stay somewhere for two days or less, I feel no need to unpack and living out of a suitcase translates to a wreck of a room! Thankfully Ryan doesn’t seem to care. He says, “All I ask is for a pathway to get to and from the door.” That I can do! If I’m somewhere for three days or more, this messy lifestyle actually starts to stress me out a lot. There’s a fine line!
Five pairs of shoes for two days of travel?
Why not?
Since we requested a late check out, we weren’t in a huge hurry. Ryan actually had another obligation to attend to, so I was on my own for a few hours.
I started to feel a little ambitious and since I felt totally fine, I meandered into the hotel gym to see if a workout would feel okay.
I flipped on the flat screen TV and watched Say Yes to the Dress while using the elliptical very lightly. I didn’t really sweat and, to be honest, walking would’ve probably been a more effective workout. Still, I wasn’t really out to get a great workout in. I was just testing the waters and didn’t want to be cooped up in a hotel room for too long.
It felt good to just move my body, but I didn’t want to push it, so after 30 minutes, I went back to our room and changed into my swimsuit to spend some time at the pool.
Out late checkout was for 2 p.m., and after disputing a little discrepancy with our room service bill (we ordered cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries late last night ), we waved goodbye to Hotel Indigo.
Now I’m blogging from the Starbucks down the street while enjoying an iced refresh tea before we head back to my parents’ house in St. Pete to spend the night with them and see Sadie!
See ya from St. Pete!
P.S. The Fashion page was updated this morning!

Oh I am so jealous of those blue skies and warm weather! I can’t wait for the summer! I didn’t have a brunch after our wedding (our’s was a Sunday afternoon wedding) but we did have a great BBQ the night before instead of a formal rehearsal dinner. 🙂

I’m a messy traveler too! It’s awful because things are thrown everywhere!

I love the idea of a post-wedding brunch – so nice!! I always bring WAY too many shoes. I just feel like you never know though and I don’t want to be without them!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I bring tons of stuff for traveling too — especially for an event like a wedding.
I think a brunch like that is such a good idea — yeesh I wish I was reading blogs before I got married!

I have the same gold sandals as you! haha you’ve got a great fashion sense.
Ps. That rooftop view you had at brunch is gorgeous!

Yummm! I love the tea! I always get “green iced tea no sweetener” in the summer! 😀
So sweet to have an after wedding brunch! The only thing I’ve done after weddings the next day is help clean up!

I feel like I bring my entire wardrobe when I travel…ohh the perks of being a woman and getting away with things as such 😉 Love it!
Your oufit is adorable, I love the skirt! Oh and extra cheesy eggs…yum – the cheesier the better, right?
Travel safe and see you and Sadie soon! 😀
Melissa @ Chocolate & Kisses says
I see six pairs of shoes, including the ones on your feet!! Which equals out to 3 pairs per day…and I don’t see a problem with that! Have fun with your family!

A post-wedding brunch is so thoughtful and such a fun but casual way to celebrate the very next day. Lovely! 🙂
I love ordering room service! The only time in my life that I got a chance to was in Vegas last November, but I can’t wait to have the chance again. hehe

Love that you’re having a great weekend. The weather in Fla looks stellar!! San Diego has great weather (usually) but it’s still a little chilly here. I guess it’s supposed to be 80 by mid week though. Yay!

Sounds like a fun weekend! Having a few hours to myself at a beautiful hotel would be dreamy to me. I’d probably do exactly what you did: workout, tan, maybe swim and blog. Just perfect.
Hope you have a great rest of the day!

My husband’s parents threw a post wedding brunch for us too. It was so nice especially since we had a bunch of guests visiting from out of town so they could come wish us well and get something to eat before they left.
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
I definitely have to pace myself with shoes on trips! When i went to Europe we almost had to pay extra for our luggage because I had brought too much stuff with me. Now I try to bring only two or three pairs. I always end up wearing the same pair, anyway!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Glad you were feeling well enough for a light workout. 🙂 The brunch looks great and it’s such a good idea to spend time with their guests some more even after the wedding.

I’m such a messy traveler, too! You’re right – after 3 + days, it gets stressful! I’m so glad you’ve been posting all this wedding stuff! I’ve looked at all your weddings pages multiple times, and they are serving as a great inspiration. We’re a little over 4 months out from ours! 🙂

I wish it was warm enough here to have an iced drink from Starbucks… jealous! Looks like you had a great weekend!

So glad that you’re feeling better! Stomach bugs are the worst, especially when you have important weekend plans! Glad you were able to enjoy the ceremony, it looked absolutely BEAUTIFUL! My parents actually went to a wedding this weekend in St. Pete at the Renaissance Vinoy, where I believe you and Ryan had your wedding 🙂 They said the venue was absolutely breathtaking!

I really like your brunch outfit, casual but super cute
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
there is NO shame in overpacking. I’d rather be overprepared (and have a really heavy suitcase and inordinate amount of clothes shoes to root through every time I change) while living out of a suitcase! 😉
…at least, that’s what I tell myself when the men in my life complain about it.
..and by men in my life, I mean my dad (for my whole life) and boyfriend. after typing that, I realized that sounded a little promiscuous. 😉
Amber K says
I totally live out of the suitcase while traveling. I hate using drawers and cabinets because I just know I’m going to forget something. However, I also do it because I’m VERY clean. Everything that I take out of the suitcase must go back in before we leave the room.
I’m so glad you’re feeling better! Especially so you could enjoy that yummy brunch food. We didn’t have one after our wedding, but it’s definitely a neat idea!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
I wanted to point out how cute those white strappy shoes are! I love how your style falls in between urban outfitters+express+something else-ish? haha can’t describe it. Those are some of my fave places 🙂 have a beautiful day!

I’m such a messy traveler too. I always say the tornado has swept through
Allison @ Happy Tales says
oh girl, no shame about 5 pairs of shoes for a 2 day trip! I am the SAME WAY! And yes, I also hardly unpack if it’s anything shorter than 2 days. Anything longer tho and I like to put my things away in the closet/drawers and having everything spic and span! You are totally right.. there totally is an very fine line!
