What a fun little Sunday!
This morning I deep cleaned our kitchen. Okay, so that doesn’t sound like much fun, and it wasn’t, but it feels good to have a sparklin’ kitchen and the rest of our Sunday was quite enjoyable.
After getting in a cardio workout at the gym (35 minute run + 15 minutes on the elliptical), I spent some time by the pool. The summer heat has officially arrived in Central Florida and the weather was sweltering today. I’m not sure I’m ready for 5,000 percent humidity and blazin’ heat just yet…
Water for Elephants
When I arrived home, I pitched an afternoon movie date to Ryan and he agreed to see Water for Elephants with me. I absolutely loved the book, so I had high hopes for the movie as well.
I liked the movie, but I didn’t love it. I had a hard time watching some of the animal cruelty scenes and I think I liked the book too much to really love the movie, if that makes any sense. Still, I’m glad I saw it and I thought Robert Pattinson did a fantastic job in the role of Jacob.
Pedialyte
After our movie matinee, Ryan and I had plans to meet up with some friends for dinner but made a quick detour to Publix because Ryan felt like he needed a drink with some electrolytes. He sweat up a storm during his afternoon soccer game and felt like his body needed a little somethin’ somethin’.
Apparently one of his teammates sipped on Pedialyte (yes, the kid’s drink) after the game and said it had more electrolytes and benefits than typical sports drinks.
Ryan bought some to try, but struggled a bit with the childproofing safety measures…
We laughed pretty hard as he struggled. The poor guy even cut his finger trying to break into it!
While at the grocery store, I nabbed a big container of my favorite gum.
Orbit white Bubblemint. Don’t mess around! Best gum everrr. And I’m quite the gum connoisseur.
Dinner
After our Publix pit stop, we drove to Winter Park to meet up with a small group of our friends for one last dinner with our friend Merri before her big move tomorrow.
We met at Pannullo’s, a fantastic Italian restaurant on Park Avenue.
Once we were seated we enjoyed their fantastic bread dipped in olive oil while we looked over the menus.
The minute I saw mussels on the menu, my mind was made up.
I wish shellfish wasn’t so darn expensive so I could eat it more often. I love shellfish so, so much and Pannullo’s prepared the mussels perfectly in a fantastic homemade marinara sauce.
Ryan ordered his beloved veggie lasagna roll and a bowl of soup which I ended up eating most of because his entrée was so large.
It was a great dinner with great friends.
I’ll be seeing Merri one final time in the morning for BodyPump and then she’s off to New York. Noooooo!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
Ugh, I’m so with you on the price of seafood!! At FitBloggin we went to a seafood place, and the crab cakes were $36. Seriously?! I wanted them, but not when I could buy a new pair of shoes instead!
Nikki says
Pedialyte is STILL my drink of choice to help with a hangover. Whenever I’ve indulged a little too much, I always have a bottle when I get home before I go to bed. If needed, some more in the morning. It always does the trick!
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
I absolutely LOVE hearing about grown men drinking Pedialyte. Cracks me up! I’m glad you were able to enjoy dinner with Merri one last time. It seems like you have a beautiful friendship. At least she’s moving to a fun place to visit! 🙂
Sarah says
Sounds like a great Sunday. I love gum, I used to be completely obsessed, but I’ve managed to tone it done to a normal amount now 🙂
erica says
pedialyte, huh? i think i should tell the bf about this for his hangover remedies!
aww, my bestie moved away a few years ago. we keep in touch with daily emails, texts, phone calls, and of course our blogs! 🙂
Allison @ The Delicious Life says
LOL! I’ve never heard of drinking pedialyte after exercise or a night of drinking, but I can see how that would help!
Allison says
Hehe in college we used to “pre pre-game” with pedialyte. Drinking a bottle before a night out always warded off hangovers.
peanutbutterfingers says
So smart!
Michelle says
I’ve never EVER thought to drink Pedialyte despite ALWAYS having some in the fridge (you never know when you’re going to need it with little ones!). You really do learn something every day.
I haven’t been able to bring myself to see Water for Elephants because of the reasons you listed. I don’t think all good books need to be made into movies!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I love seafood too!!! THe price, not so much. ha. Glad you had fun tonight 🙂
Hilary says
Julie, you guys should try the pedialyte pops they sell too! Great for the crazy florida heat and fun to eat!!! I used to get dehydrated all the time and pedialyte always does the trick!! Hope you having a nice summer.
Holly says
Lovedddddd Water For Elephants… book and movie 🙂 And yummm your mussels look so good!
The Teenage Taste says
Haha. I love that picture of Ryan struggling with the packaging. To this day I still struggle with “child proof” packaging…it’s almost embarassing. 😉
janet says
I love the Pedialyte Popsicles too! Really good for when you have a killer sore throat and can’t swollow a lot of liquids.
I have IBD (irritable bowel disease) so electrolytes and potassium are a big issue for me,
especially as I have been having hot flashes since my 20s.
My gastro-doctor thinks sports drinks are garbage (due to calories) but doesn’t have a problem with the lowcal ones now available…
But if I am really run down he says “always always pedialyte” or good old-fashioned Lucozade.
He says SmartWater is a waste despite it’s electrolytes’ content…regular water is just as refreshing.
…Just thought I would share that info!
Janet
Ps geeeeez now you have me dreaming of lobster rolls! New car … Road trip?????
Amber K says
Thanks for sharing! I have so many digestive issues that I should probably add something like that to my probiotic regimen.
Jenna says
So nice to know I’m not the only one with digestive issues! Logically of course I know that, but it’s always so nice to actually see people discussing it…and thank you for the tip!
Tori (Fresh Fruition) says
I haven’t had bread dipped in olive oil in a while. Simple, yet so perfect!
Tell him not to feel bad. I’m also pretty terrible when it comes to child-proof caps and all that jazz! 🙂
Caitlin @ Southern Curls & Pearls says
I just saw Water for Elephants the other day! I loved it, but it may be because I haven’t read the book (yet). I’m definitely planning on it now!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Pedialyte — that cracks me up but it makes sense! Too bad about the child proof cap — sometimes I have problems with opening a bottle of Advil because of the cap. If I can’t get into it then I’m sure a kid couldn’t!
Amy says
I really would like to see Water for Elephants despite hearing from many bloggers that the book was better.
Sounds like a perfect Sunday except for the deep cleaning of the kitchen.
Mac says
I alway struggle with seeing movies of books that I have already read…. the movies almost always tends to disappoint 🙁 Can’t wait to read that book though!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
Another great drink for rehydration is young coconut water. Natural and it tastes delicious 🙂
Hope you have a wonderful start to your week! 🙂
Chloe (South Beach Girl) says
I am hesitant to see Water for Elephants for that same reason, I think I might just wait to rent it.
Agreed on the seafood! I also love it, so I try and buy it at Trader Joe’s where they have lots of frozen fish choices that is relatively inexpensive.
Kaitlyn @ 7 Plates says
I know what you mean about liking books more than the movies. I felt that way about……. Twilight (SHH!)
Jaclyn says
I think any of the minty Extra flavors of gum are the best – they don’t lose their chew!
Just think – now you will have a really good reason to go visit nyc!
Erica says
Have you ever tried coconut water? I am not a fan of the plain kind but the ones that have a splash of pineapple juice are super yummy!!!
Coconut water has way more potassium then sports drinks and is super healthy!
Keely (Sky Blue) says
Hm I’m so torn over whether or not I want to see this movie. I love Reese Witherspoon but I’m with you on the animal cruelty. I hate those kinds of scenes in movies!!
Khushboo says
I loved Water for Elephants but that’s probably because I haven’t read the book- movies never seem to live up! Also the eye candy defo helped ;)!
Carrie says
oh no!! sorry Merri will be gone!! ive never seen nor read Water for Elephants although themovie isnt out here yet i dntthink… we usually get movies a few months behind the US! same with tv shows.. it sucks!.. noo!!! peppermin> bubblemint 😉
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, and Beers says
Thanks for the heads up on the movie. I loved the book too, but perhaps this flick will be a rental for me. Have a super week!
Gen says
I really loved Water for Elephants, too!!!!!!!!!
Glad you got to spend some time with your friend before she moves!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
As hard as it is to have good friends move away, its a great excuse to travel!
Melissa says
What a fun day! I know exactly what you mean about liking the book too much to like the movie. I felt the same way about the Twilight books. 😉
Best wishes to Merri! Sad for you, but so exciting for her! 🙂
Erica says
I loved the movie, but TOTALLY agree with you, I closed my eyes during most of the animal cruelty parts, that was pretty much my only gripe with the movie. I didn’t read the book till after I saw it—and I didn’t even finish the book. I think I might be the only one, but I prefer the movie over the book. The book was hard to read, too much cussing and way too sexually explicit for my taste! Maybe it go better as it went on? I didn’t even get 1/2 way through it!
Amber K says
Yeah I can’t tell if I’m going to be really excited when The Hunger Games finally comes out, or if I’m going to be disappointed. Although, I have actually had movies/TV shows turn out better than books I’ve read.
Madison M says
I love your updates on places you eat in Winter Park because I was born there and my family still lives there, which means plenty of visits down south. Looks like you guys had a fabulous time!
Caitlin @ The Caitie Experiment says
Count me as one of the Pedialyte-as-hangover-cure fans! I had never thought about it until I got Norovirus last year and drank so, so much of it to rehydrate (it was THE. WORST. I lost over 7lbs in 5 hours) and remember laughing and thinking, “someone should market this to adults as a hangover helper!” We now keep the freezer pops in stock for when our friends crash at our place after a night of too much fun! I also have a really sensitive salt/water balance, and they’re perfect for replenishing electrolytes after a killer gym session!
Alisa @ Running with Knives says
One of the things I’m looking most forward to when I move to New England is that shellfish is a lot cheaper. When I lived in Washington DC, I ate enough crab to make it extinct.
Jenny @ loveeatrun says
My boyfriend lives and dies by drinking Pedialyte to stay hydrated. Won’t lie – he’s loaded me up with it before bed on nights when we have gone out drinking and it definitely keeps the hangover away!
amy baily says
Hi there, my names amy and
