I arrived home from work feeling a little antsy about my travels to Chicago. When I came home to a previously overflowing suitcase that magically had more room available for my things, I instantly felt better. While I was at work, Ryan stuffed some of my belongings into a bag he uses for hiking trips that magically shrinks things down.
The shrinking bag did the trick and I had half of a carry on available to stuff with my things rather than only quarter.
And then I received a package from RueLaLa which solved my “what do I wear” dilemma! Like I said this afternoon, things always have a way of working out. Though I love my new dress, it is a little big in the chest (oh the perils of being a member of the IBTC), so I’m hoping one of my more domesticated friends can help me take it in a bit before tomorrow night’s festivities Or, you know, I could always stuff some chicken breasts in my bra. Either way.
Though I was already feeling better about my travels, I still had a little anxiety about the off-site airport parking and left our apartment three hours before my flight. Fortunately the parking was simple and shuttle to the airport didn’t take too long, so I made it through security with two hours to spare before my flight.
Or so I thought.
Turns out, I now have four hours to spare before my flight. My flight was delayed. Looks like it will be a late night in the Orlando International Airport!
Dinner
When I saw that my flight was delayed, I figured I had time to walk around and scout out some decent dinner options.
Jackpot!
I stumbled on a big salad bar and loaded up!
It wasn’t cheap ($10 for a salad and a bottle of water), but I was happy to enjoy a healthy dinner at the airport.
Fortunately the Orlando airport has free internet access, so I have been able to catch up on some emails and blog reading. Now, after being in front of a computer at work all day, I’m ready to shut off the technology and dive into my new book… and smack the guy next to me who keeps singing the same line of CeeLo’s “Forget You” over and over out loud. I’ve been giving him Ellen’s universal look for “that’s irritating” (you know when you look over quickly, and look away, clearly annoyed?), but he has yet to catch on.
See ya from the Windy City!
Julia says
I’m glad it all worked out! There’s nothing worse than stressing about an outfit. And wow $10 for a salad? Oh well sometimes you just have to splurge. Have fun!
Samantha says
Be prepared it’s chilly here, it’s supposed to get warmer though over the weekend! Safe travels!
Jamie says
Have a safe trip!!! Hopefully that man will stop singing, or pick a new song! P.S. I just watched your video on how to curl with a straightener…my method has been slacking and I’m hoping this works better. 😀
Lee @ Fit Foodie Finds says
Maybe I’ll run into you!!! I’ll be in Chi Town on Sunday. Well the burbs at least…hope you have a fantastic weekend at home. PS- The weather in the Midwest has been oober nast. Lets cross our fingers for some sunshine 😉
Jihane @Sinful Sundays says
Aww, sorry about your delayed flight. However, LMAO!! at the guy singing the same line over and over again! Hahaha! people are such fools…
Cait's a Runnerchick says
Sorry to hear about your delay…I HATE that! Score on the dinner find, though you gotta love how the airport charges you up the wazoo for everything, right? Oh well, all in the name of health..hehe.
good luck on that singing dude, maybe chuck a chunk of onion at his face. 😉 Safe travels!
Stephanie says

That was my favorite part of the post-really laughed out loud! And I am probably chairperson of that particular organization…
Jamie aka "Sometimes Healthy Girl" says
Wow! A salad bar at the airport? I’ve actually never seen that before. How nice! Well too bad for the delay but sometimes it’s nice to have some downtime to slow down and catch up on things. Glad you enjoyed your time. Safe travels!
Jenn says
That salad looks delish! Also, I just tried your favourite bagelwich with cheese and jelly for supper. So. Good. I am officially in love with it 😛
peanutbutterfingers says
Yay!! Another convert! 🙂
Ebru says
Oh goodness, doesn’t matter whether flying into/out of O’hare or Midway there is ALWAYS a delay for Chicago-bound flights…I’ve lived here in Chicago 5 years and fly quite a bit, I never had a flight that departed/arrive on time. There are delays even when the weather is 80 here! Which is not even anything close to it these days, so hopefully you packed some sweaters 🙂 Supposed to be nice-er tomorrow and Sunday though! Hope you girls have a blast this weekend! 😉
erica says
i spy a longchamp baaaaag!!!!!!

happy and safe travels!
Kristen @ The Red Velvet Life says
The guy singing the Cee Lo song, omg, that sounds so annoying! I don’t even like that song and I don’t see what the big deal is about it (gasp, I know!) Safe travels and enjoy your book 🙂
Sana says
Oh bahaahha stuff some chicken breasts in my bra!
Safe travels!
Parita says
I hate flight delays…especially when I just want to get to my destination!
And is that your new Longchamp bag?!? I think I may be getting mine this weekend!
Have fun!
Katherine says
I see your longchamp in the picture. Did you end up getting it over seas and was it cheaper? I am in the same boat you were, I want to get one but if it’s a little cheaper there I may wait and get it when I leave in September.
peanutbutterfingers says
I actually bought it before on sale from Saks with birthday money. I couldn’t hold out!
Brittany says
Haha, proud member of the IBTC here, too! Is it weird that I prefer that? In most situations, anyway; it does make for difficult dress shopping at times!
Safe travels, Julie!
The Healthy Hipster says
Urgh! Sometimes it really bothers me that eating healthy when you’re travelling or out costs so much more…but in the end I always feel better and thats worth the cost for me. Happy travels!

Delayed trips are never fun. Once I was stuck in Seattle for 8 hours!

Good job finding healthy food in the airport! A couple weeks ago I was making a short flight and bought a coffee and a (teeny, tiny, very disappointing) yogurt parfait for $8. It bummed me out, but oh well!! Especially after feeling stressed about traveling (I totally relate btw) there’s really no point in worrying about a few extra bucks. When you’ve got a ton on your mind who wants to bargain shop? Anyway…that’s always my excuse. 😉
Khushboo says
Haha i know the look, I DO the look! Hope you made it to Chicago ok!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says

I would be more than glad to share my boobs with any member of the IBTC. There is just too much for anything. Two sportbras on a hot day, plus my shirt, yikes.
Also, I need your suitcase. I’m in love with the color and style. It makes my red one cry in shame.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
yikes, I HATE delayed flights. But at least you have INternet!
I love those camping bags, my husband always lets me use his too. So sweet 🙂
Allison @ Allison's Delicious Life says

Oh gosh, airport food/ drinks is always soooo ridiculously priced. I once paid 7 dollars for a water. That day will go down in history :/
Free wifi though – yay! I’ve been quite impressed with most airports/ train stations etc offering this nowadays.

Hope you have a great trip and a good time in Chicago! 😀

What kind of suitcase is that green one? I’m looking for a new one and I LOVE that one!
