Seriously.
Just look at this mess!
I kind of want to cry, scream and jump for joy all at the same moment. Cry because I’m sad we’re leaving Orlando. Scream because in addition to boxing everything up, we’re also disinfecting EVERYTHING because I don’t want any trace of mice germs coming with us to Ocala. (It’s taking foreverrr.) And I want to jump for joy because I’m excited about this next part of our journey.
I’m not particularly good at handling the unexpected when it comes to big events.
When Ryan and I decided to move to Ocala for his new job, I figured the transition would go smoothly and we’d find ourselves moving into a nice home without a hitch. I didn’t anticipate moving our stuff into storage, living out of a suitcase and having no set home to move into on the horizon.
I like a plan and in my day-to-day life have most things in my personal and professional life ironed out way ahead of time. I’m punctual, organized and responsible and this whole moving experience is testing all of these traits and making me explore my more go-with-the-flow and whatever-happens-happens side.
I can’t wait until I’m blogging from my own home office! There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Pig Bath
In other news, some of Sadie’s favorite toys got a bath this morning in preparation for the big move.
These little pigs were diiirty! Sadie has a serious love for her toy pigs and they were in desperate need of a run through the washing machine.
Much better!
Lunch
After boxing up all of our junk (we still have yet to touch the room of shit) and doing multiple loads of laundry, we took a break for lunch.
Ryan tackled the kitchen in his morning boxing session, so I limited my lunch options to the food that wasn’t boxed up yet and used mostly food from the fridge.
I made myself a big ol’ salad with peaches, turkey, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts and chia seeds, all dressed up in a balsamic vinaigrette.
The peaches were the best part! I love a pop of sweetness in my salads.
As I was typing up this blog post, we got a call about another house in Ocala, available August 1!!! We’ve basically ruled out the possibility of moving right into a place from our current apartment, so it would be AMAZING if this one works out.
We have an appointment to see it at 3 p.m., so I gotta boogie!
See ya for dinner, friends!
Question of the Afternoon
- Are you a planner or are you a more go-with-the-flow type of person?
If you’re more go-with-the-flow, please teach me your ways!
Vanessa @ Sweaty in Pink says
I’m definitely a planner, but luckily going though these kind of big-unexpected changes do us planner-types well in the learning-to-deal-with-things department.
And, Sadie’s toys are TOO cute! They remind me of my little pink pillow pet 🙂
Jen @familyfoodfitnessandfun says
I am a total planner! It would be so hard to move somewhere and not have a definite “home” to go to. But I know you can do it girl!
Love the idea of peaches in the salad…gotta try that!
Beth (Well I'll Be) says
I seriously feel for you Julie. Packing and moving is the worst! It looks like yall are making good progress though. I hope the house works out!
Anna @ Food Fitness and Frolicking says
Ahhaha I have no idea why, but sadie’s toys just made me laugh so hard! They’re adorable!
Liz @ Something To Chew On says
I’ve never been able to go with the flow. I’m definitely a planner – sometimes to the point of stressing myself out!
Sadie’s toys made me giggle! 🙂
Mac says
My recent move has made me realize I have a LOT of crap too! It’s driving me banana sandwiches! I can go with the flow, but I like to have a plan too.
Pamela says
Girl, I’m in the process of moving too – across the country, with no apartment and no job. But I have the opposite problem, being a totally laid back and go with the flow kind of person. I have some leads, and a place to rest my head for the first week…but not much else. What keeps me breathing easy is the fact that I know it will work out – things always do. Stressing just makes the inbetween uncertainty that much more painful. Take it easy, breathe deep, and go one day at a time. When all else fails, my go-to destressors are yoga and a pedicure. 🙂
Khushboo says
I’ve always been a planner but am trying to become more laid back. Ill admit that unexpected changes are certainly overwhelming!
Lori Lynn says
I try to be a planner, but my “plans” never seem to get done! I kind have always said that I’m a “Type-A-Wanna-‘B!’
Shayla @ The Good Life says
I’m definitely a planner! I love to know what to expect and have everything set in stone…going with the flow is just too stressful to me sometimes!
Grecia says
I am so a planner person! I need structure in my life, so I feel out of place if I don’t have at least some sort of plan in mind.
By the way, that salad looks amazing, just looking at it is making mouth water!
Jodi says
Gah…my dog tears his toy animals up in 30 minutes–flat. You should feel lucky! The ‘room full of shit’ cracks me up every time! I hate packing and unpacking, so i can imagine the added stress it can entail. I am more of a go-with-the-flow person, although I strive to be the opposite.
Laura (Cookies vs. Carrots) says
My dog also loves pig toys! It is the weirdest thing!
Ciera @ Rose & Thistle says
As always, love the Sadie caption (not to mention her very expressive facial expression & stance!). Mine always end up shredding all their toys, they’re absolute demons for it. Sadie is clearly far more civilised.
Jessie says
I am definitely NOT a planner for everyday things…and any time I try to be, I end up doing things different anyway! I am a good planner when it comes to travel (because I have to be) but everything else, I work better under pressure…even if it makes me stress out more than I can handle sometimes…
Allison @ Happy Tales says
Happy’s first toy was a stuffed pig, and even though her stuffed toy collection is nearing double digits, “pigpig” is still her favorite, BY FAR! I’m so pleased that it’s lasted so long! I think it’ll always be her favorite, no matter what.
Sarah K. @ The Pajama Chef says
hope the house works out!!!
Camels & Chocolate says
That’s hilarious about Sadie’s toys–my dog, Ella, has an obsession for all brown stuffed animals! It doesn’t matter what it is–monkey, moose, camel, etc.–if it’s brown, she is drawn to it!
Kristen @ The Red Velvet Life says
I needed a good laugh today, and Sadie with her pig toys was it. SO cute. Thanks for sharing the dirty piggies, haha! Good luck with moving — my hubby and I just moved from Texas to SF, and then most recently SF to LA, so I know how moves go!! Takes patience, but you’ll get everything sorted out soon. Hugs.
Audrey says
This post fits perfectly with me right now.-I’m packing up for new first year at college, a college that is ALL the way across the country! Needless to say, I’ve got some serious purging to do. In the past few weeks, I have gotten rid of countless bags of garbage (though before I was on a time crunch, I refused to get rid of my favorite old magazines and school notes from teachers 😉 ), donated a LOT to Goodwill, and still have soo much more to do, but I can see a end in sight…seriously I leave pretty soon 😉
Brittany says
I’m definitely a planner but my boyfriend is exceptionally spontaneous. I’m always asking, “whats the plan?” (for tonight, tomorrow, this weekend… not hard stuff to have a plan for) and his response is usually like the activity we’re doing. Not how we’re getting there, who else will be joining, what time tings are happening, etc. Drives me crazy sometimes but other times he’ll call me up and say, “Soooo… lets go to the beach, I’ll pick you up in 20 minutes.” Some things I just can’t say no to and they actually make me embrace his spontaneity!
