Ryan and I allowed our breakfasts to digest for a few hours (aka we acted like bums in our hotel room) before driving to the gym… the real gym, not the hotel’s fitness facility. Woo!
We hopped on side-by-side ellipticals to begin our workouts with 20 minutes of cardio before heading into the weight room to complete our respective workouts.
I did a weights workout very similar to Thursday’s routine, only I cut out three exercises or so but didn’t neglect ab work this time. Give and take.
100 Flavor Coke Machine
After the gym, Ryan had big plans in store for us for lunch.
Last week he joined a coworker for lunch at Firehouse Subs. When he told be about their lunch, he didn’t say one word about his sandwich, but went on and on about their awesome Coke machine. Apparently it had a bunch of different “base” sodas for you to choose from before selecting what flavor you wanted.
One hundred different flavor combinations are available!
Neither Ryan nor I are big soda drinkers, but we do enjoy the occasional soda every once in a while.
I was quite exited to experiment with the machine!
Vanilla Sprite!?
I filled my cup with a bit of vanilla Sprite Zero, which tasted a lot like cream soda, before adding a splash of strawberry Sprite at the end for a little more pizazz.
I want to go back and try peach Sprite sometime!
As we waited for our subs, we got a kick out of watching people at the 100 flavor Coke machine. They were like kids in a candy store! It’s very exciting stuff.
Lunch
For lunch we each ordered Firehouse Hero subs with no mayo.
The sub included ham, turkey and roast beef, veggies, stone ground mustard and melted provolone cheese.
I love the mustard they use on these subs. It adds so much flavor and a little bit of a kick.
Pool Playtime
When we arrived back at the hotel, we put on our swimsuits and headed out to the pool to read our respective books and enjoy some pool playtime.
I just started reading The Glass Castle.
I’m about 80 pages into the book and am not feelin’ it yet.
It’s a memoir and I sometimes struggle with memoirs because I like my books to have a real plot, some intrigue and suspense. Memoirs can sometimes fail to capture my interest because they’re just story after story about someone’s life. I’m going to keep plugging away because I’ve heard only great things about this book, but I sure hope it picks up soon.
Our time at the pool seemed to be split into 20 minute increments of reading and playtime. Whenever we’d be too hot to stand it anymore, we’d jump in the pool to play around.
I entertained Ryan with some of my awesome pool characters.
The shark…
The dead man…
And the president!
Whenever I’d flip my hair back like that when I was little I felt like looked like some of our first presidents, wearing those fancy white-haired wigs.
Now we’re back in the room where we’ll be hangin’ for a bit before heading to Orlando this evening for a really fun event!
More to come!

The first time I saw one of those Coke machines I seriously said “woah” out loud at Burger King. I was so enthralled with it and keep looking through every type of flavor to see what they had. Settled on Coke, since that’s what the mother wanted and I was buying food for her. 😀
Nikki says
Keep reading… it is a hard to get into read, but good in the end. 🙂 I read that a few years ago in the summer… it wasn’t the light summer read I was looking for, but good!
Margo @ peanut butter trees says
I’ve heard about these magical soda machines! I’ve gotta find one, though I also don’t drink soda all that often, it’d be fun to try out!
Errign says
Well, that’s a pretty cool concept. I am not a big soda drinker, but I do like the occasional Fresca, which is impossibly hard to find here in Asheville, other than in the 5$ a pop 12 pack variety.
Vanilla Sprite Zero did make me think of my early days of drinking when we used to mix Sprite zero and vanilla vodka for “cream soda” – bleghhhhh.
Julie S says
I love the George Washington hair! Cracks me up and always reminds me oft sister- she does a great George ‘do!! 😉
Alexa says
I usually don’t drink soda either, but my brother made me try the cherry sprite.. SO GOOD!
Alisa @ Running with Knives says
When I was out of town for a wedding, the closest food place to us was a Burger King. Expecting to go in there and make good choices, I saw the 100 flavor Coke machine. All bets were off. I need to find one locally and go in just to try all the flavors! So much fun.
Kristen says
lol, we ALWAYS used to do the president in the pool, but we called it the George Washington. That’s so funny!
Brittany @ A Spoonful of Peanut Butter says
Don’t give up on The Glass Castle!! I read it and I thought it was really funny! I do agree that it starts out slow because I ended up stopping, but my mom had read it and kept nagging me to finish. I finished it and I laughed so hard. Keep reading! It gets better 🙂
Brittany @ A Spoonful of Peanut Butter says
ohh-I forgot to ask. Have you read Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford? I’ve been reading the same series throughout the summer, and thought I should branch out (lol). So I picked this book up, hope its good!
Lorin says
Aw man, that’s too bad about Glass Castle. I personally loved it and don’t enjoy memoirs too much. I think maybe because her life was so crazy and random and different I enjoyed reading about it. I hope it gets better for you!
Bee Goes Bananas says
We totally used to do that in thr pool!
Lauren says
That soda machine looks so interesting. I don’t like soda, but the only soda I would ever drink is Sprite Zero. Okay, so I am totally thinking how good these flavors would be in mixed drinks.
Melissa says
At least you had some fun in between reading The Glass Castle. That is NOT a feel good book. I thought it was well-written, but it seriously bummed me out. Not that life has to be rainbows and pop tarts all the time, but sheesh.
Dee says
I love that machine! It is just too much fun. My boyfriend and I recorded ourselves mixing flavors to show his parents ( in an effort to convince them to purchase one)! I felt like I had the whole world in my hand 🙂
I’m surprised to hear so many people have done “the president” !! I must have missed that memo back then ..haha
Shari @ Chicago Cuisine Critique says
I’ve never seen that soda machine before. that’s pretty cool. Looks like you had a great day.
mary says
ok…so, i don’t usually comment (just kind of lurk!!), but your “president” picture made me laugh out loud…hilarious!!! thank you for your blog…i love reading it everyday!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I saw one of those machines for the first time when I was in Chicago a month ago. It was at a Chipotle. I was completely fascinated haha!
Lyndsi @ Lyndsi and David says
The Chick-fil-a in the ATL airport has one of those — I was amazed, too! Although some people were confused by it. One lady in front of me was pushing the wrong thing and finally got frustrated and left.
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Hahah I could see myself doing that. I’d probably need a manual to figure it out! 😛
Ryah says
Keep reading the glass castle, I promise you it gets super crazy and intense. I can’t believe she lived through all of that and turned out so normal.
Danielle Spellman @ Squirrel Snackin' says
The firehouse in Fort Walton doesn’t have a soda machine like that. 🙁 I hope they get one eventually! I love the pool picture of you doing the president lol When I was little we used to call it the George Washington or the judge..too funny. 🙂
Mila @ loftyappetite says
I also started the Glass Castle about a year ago and I never finished it…. I will stay posted for your review!
Cait's a Runnerchick says
i’ve never seen one of those soda machines, but is kind of reminds me what i would do when i was younger and went to a place that let you self-serve from the taps: i just went the suicide route and mixed them all together. 😛
ya, memoirs can either be really good or a total miss for me, i usually force myself to see things through to the end…good luck and hope things get more interesting…haha!
Khushboo says
That Coke machine is SO cool- Sprite remixeddd!
Gen says
The swimming pool seems great! It must give you some foretaste of your future pool ^^ Do you ever swim as a workout? Do you have any advice for it?
Mercedes says
I’ve tried peach sprite from one of those machines…. Not a fan! The peach is a little over powering, but if you are fan of peach flavored stuff maybe you’d like it!?
Bee @ B*tchy Bee says
I JUST saw that very coke machine at Moe’s here in CT the other day. It’s too cool!
Kristen says
The Glass Castle gets better. The more you get into it the crazier it seems that that is really her life!
Sarah @ Food and Love Diaries says
That’s so funny with the president hair! My sister and I used to do that SAME thing when we were little
wellblessherheart.wordpress.com says
So weird, we just got one of those Coke machines at our Zaxby’s and my husband and kids are obsessed with it. I’m like you, not a big soft drink drinker, but the peach sprite is reallllly good, if you mix it with a little regular sprite to tone down the peachiness!
(My girls also totally do the president hair thing. They call it the George Washington.)
Paige says
I’ve read that book too, and it is a VERY memoiry memoir…you know what I mean? It is really just story after story after story. It’s still kind of interesting to read, but I think it gets more interesting after she gets past all the stories of her very young childhood. On another note, you definitely have the presidential hair down pat!
Amber K says
I absolutely ADORE memoirs and non-fiction, although you have to really be into the subject or person to enjoy them. At least I think it helps. My favorite memoirs to read are the ones written by comedians, because they are usually pretty funny.
Amber @ Stop and Smell the Wildflowers says
I’m not a soda drinker either, but that Coke machine is so cool! And I totally did that to my hair when I was little, too. We called it the “George Washington.” 🙂
Sarah says
AHHHHH! When I was younger I would also flip my hair over like the presidents except I always said i was MARTHA WASHINGTON! 🙂
McKenzie says
I feel ya on The Glass Castle. I checked it out awhile back and never could get into it. It finally went back to the library with no regrets.
Deanna says
aww, I hope you enjoy the Glass Castle. I loved it and when I was done, I gave it to my mother to read with a note that told her how much I loved her and thanked her for the wonderful childhood she blessed me with.
Megan @ On the Road Again says
Oh my. I would go absolutely nuts with that Coke machine. How fun!
The Glass Castle is amazing. I promise you’ll love it by the end. It had me in tears!
Sasha -- Blueberry Dimples says
I really enjoyed The Glass Castle but it also took me a little bit to get into it. Hope you enjoy it!
