Yes it’s still in the 80s outside, but it’s never too hot for the crock pot!
Tonight marked our first crock pot meal since moving into our new home.
I am still not over the wonderful feeling I have while preparing dinner in our new kitchen. One month without an oven, stove or other kitchen gadgets sure made me appreciate the things I typically have access to on a daily basis.
Our inaugural crock pot meal was BBQ chicken sandwiches.
Served on a hotdog bun for some summer fun. (Fall doesn’t officially begin until September 23.)
On the side we ate parsnip fries, prepared the same way I make rutabaga fries, only I didn’t peel the parsnips. Easily one of my all-time favorite veggie sides!
A great crock pot kick off meal if you ask me!
Hole in the Wall
Last night as Ryan and I were relaxing on the couch floor, he was flipping through the channels and stopped immediately when he stumbled upon a game show.
“Have you seen this?” he asked me.
I looked at the screen, assessed the silver jumpsuits worn by the players and said, “Absolutely not.”
“You have to watch this.”
So what was the show? Hole in the Wall.
The players literally have to contort their bodies to fit through the hole in a moving wall.
How is this even a show!?!?
…And how can I get on it?
Those are some seriously snazzy jumpsuits. A Halloween idea, perhaps?
Question of the Evening
- If you could be on any game show, what game show would want to be on?
Since I’m pretty sure Legends of the Hidden Temple and Guts are no longer viable options (oh how I longed for a piece of the Agro Crag), I think I would choose to be on Don’t Forget the Lyrics, the show where people have to complete the lyrics of songs for money. I feel like I know the words to a lot of totally random songs, so that would probably be my best bet. I don’t know how I’d get around the actually singing part of that show though…
Nathan Miller says
Handsdown…..The newlywed game just so we can prove how much my finance and I dont know each other..,ha
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
that show started from a little game Ellen does on her show! how crazy is it? I’m pretty sure she found it from some asian game show on youtube.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I’ve seen that show before. It’s so funny to watch but seriously…so stupid! I was OBSESSED with Legends of the hidden temple as a kid. Gameshows were so much cooler then.
Ali @ Ali Runs says
I would have loved to be on Legends of the Hidden Temple!! I used to love watching those shows. Kids these days are missing out!
zoë says
I used to watch Legends of the Hidden Temple religiously. AND my friends and I would try and create our own Guts moments (racing up mulch mountains and screaming “Guuuuts!” etc…). Good times.
I think it would be awesome to win Jeopardy.
P.S. I saw this JTT tribute video today: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/09/jtt_30th_birthday_slideshow.html
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
UHH who decided on that show-that is crazy weird. But kind of funny all at the same time….heh.
I am a HUGE fan of the crockpot! Yah for chilis and easy meals for Fall 🙂
Nicole says
That looks like SO much fun! I could do anything with song lyrics.
LOVE on my crockpot all summer and winter. Have a great pulled pork bbq recipe.
How do you make the fries? I love rutabaga’s but not sure if you just bake them or coat them first?
The Kidless Kronicles
Wag More, Bark….
Erin says
Shop till you Drop, I just to LOVE that one!!! I always wanted to be on that one and still do!!
Ashley @ Will Run for Food says
Oh my. Lol! I’ve always wanted to do something trivia-related, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, maybe? I’m full of useless information.
Kerr says
I loved guts and legends of the hidden temple! Double dare too. I was convinced my brother and I would win if we got on 🙂
Joe @ The Frolicking Fells says
I’d love to be on Jeopardy. I’ve tried out for it at least two or three times but no luck thus far. I’m pretty good on most categories except for anything scientific…then I’m in real trouble!
Katie says
SUPERMARKET SWEEP!
Danica @ It's Progression Not Perfection says
Literally laughing out loud at that show! I can’t believe that’s on tv!!
Hidden Temple was amazing.
I would actually choose to be on Wheel of Fortune–kind of slow going but word puzzles are more of my thing 🙂
Mercedes says
I’ve seen that hole int he wall show. It’s fun for about 5 minutes and becomes kind of boring.
The one show I’d love to be on is Wipeout! it looks like so much fun, and take a little bit of agility and skill.
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
It was part of a funky game show on Japanese TV. It was one of many games. When America aired “I survived a Japenese game show” two summers ago that part rated well. I have no idea why they made it a single show but it’s good for boring evening when I’ve finished my book.
Lindsay@bikingbeforebed says
My family is obsessed with games and trivia. I always wanted us to go on Family Feud. I think most of the most random game shows out there is Ninja Warrior, another crazy Japanese game show.
heather says
That show is hilarious. Have you seen wipeout? I would totally love to be on that show!
peanutbutterfingers says
ryan’s dream is to be on wipeout!
Jenna says
Supermarket sweep! I wish it never went off the air. Sometimes when I’m in a rush at the supermarket and can’t find something I pretend I’m on the show haha. Lame.
Emily says
I totally sent in an application for Don’t Forget the Lyrics! Yep, it happened. Annnnd my sister and I applied for Amazing Race. And by “applied” I mean we smooth-talked our way to the front of the line at an open casting call to get an on-camera interview. One of these days we’ll get a call back!
peanutbutterfingers says
i hope you do! that would be awesome!
Tracy @ Tracy's Treats says
Oh goodness, I loved Legend of the Hidden Temple when I was younger!!! Wow, haven’t thought about that show in a long, long time!
Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel says
i feel like i can just taste that bbq chicken… i can almost sink my teeth in, but all i’d get is computer monitor in my mouth 🙁 SAD FACE 🙁 lol
xoxo
Lauren B. says
Price Is Right. I would ROCK that game show! I am at the grocery store at least 4x per week, so I am a master when it comes to what things cost. “Lauren- come on down!”
Khushboo says
I would kill to be on Supermarket Sweep…me + a trolley = mad skillz 🙂
Corrie Anne says
OOooh! I just got a late wedding gift today — CROCKPOT!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to try it because I accidentally got someone else’s pot roast in the grocery store the other day. What else do you do with a pot roast?
I’d love to be on jeopardy. Or the biggest loser. Does that count? I don’t think I’d really qualify for biggest loser, but it looks so fun!!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I used to want to be on Double Dare. I loved me some Marc Summers. 😉
janiek says
HaHaha that show sounds absolutely hilarious and so entertaining. Crockpotmeal looks delicious btw!
Marijke says
Hole in the Wall is so weirdly fantastic!
Do you guys have Total Wipeout in the US? There’s a show I would love to go on!
peanutbutterfingers says
yes! that show is intense!
Lauren says
Can not believe it’s time for crockpots again!!! I’m oddly excited for it but sad to put the blender away for a few months. I just can’t bring myself to make smoothies so much in the winter.
Gina @ Will Run for Cupcakes says
Supermarket Sweep.
Do we see a trend here?
Food…Supermarket…
I also would have loved to be on Global Guts or Double Dare (just for the final obstacle course!)
Gen says
Hahaha! I’ve never even heard of that game show! Looks funny!
katie says
Love the post! If I find a video of when my sisters boyfriend was on, I will post it! lol! It is so funny!
Happy Weekend girl! I hope you guys get more stuff done around the house!
xoxo
Becky @ Fit Chick on the Fly says
HAHA Hole in the wall is by far the dumbest game show, but don’t even lie, you know you got sucked in and kept wanting to watch the next person puzzle and the next one!
That would be a hillarious halloween costume for you and Ryan! Except I don’t think a lot of people would understand who you are.
Vicky says
WIPEOUT!!! This show has me laughing so hard whenever I watch it!!
laurel anderson says
Most Extreme Elimination…no question about that.
Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups says
I would love to be on The Amazing Race!! (Or a judge on Top Chef!)
Hope says
Such a weird show! I used to love Legends of the Hidden Temple! Double Dare was a pretty fun one to watch too! Oh, and can’t forget about What Would You Do! Nickelodeon used to have some of the best game shows on there!
Kristen says
Supermarket Sweet is the BOMB! Or what about the “No Whammies” show?
meg @ pinkgiggles says
I’d want to be on supermarket sweep. Remember that show? Hilariously idiotic.
Brittany *Sparkles* says
Legends of the Hidden Temple!! OMG what a flashback…
Kristen says
Since Double Dare is no longer an option, I’d have to opt for the Price is Right! But only if Bob Barker could come back. Drew Carey (skinny, no less!) is just not my cup of tea.
Michelle says
I think I saw that show on TV in Europe! Its hysterical!
Every time I see Wipeout I want to be on it!
Liz says
I used to love Double Dare, Guts, and Legends of the Hidden Temple 🙂
Rebecca @ Miss Magnolia Munches & Moves says
I would want to be on Jepordy! I am obsessed. Some days, I’m really good and some days I don’t know any of the answers! I judge how good or bad my day is by whether I’m home in time to watch it!
AceRunn says
OMG, that is the funniest thing! Who comes up with this stuff, and who the heck signs up for that LOL.
I still watch/DVR the Newlywed game, and I tell DH all the time I want to go on. While it’s on we always “practice” and never get any points, but we laugh a lot!
Laura @ Unchartered 20s says
Hhahah omg i remember watching clips of these when it was a Japanese game show. Seriously, i watched like 30 minutes of it at work haha
Allie Q (Fit Geek) says
Fun fact: my mom went to high school with the host of Legends of the Hidden Temple ;P
Kim says
Without a doubt I would go on Family Fued. Hands down!!
Mariann says
Oh my your sandwich looks devine. I got up this morning ready to make chicken in the crock pot, with BBQ sauce (inspired by you) My hubby wanted the pot roast instead, but still in the crock pot. Dinner is almost served! Also I have seen that show, my daughter who is 5 loves it! Strange show, and still don’t fully understand it. I would NEVER in a million years where those jumpsuits, LOL. I would love to be on Family Fued…I always know the right answers 🙂
