I spent the morning working outside on our porch. When I started, the temperature was nice and cool, around 77 degrees.
(I think anything below 80 degrees feels cool. Iām always cold and Ryan is always hot, so I live under a blanket in the winter and sport fuzzy slippers in the summertime in our house.)
The weather started out temperate, but before I knew it, I was sweating in the 90-degree heat.
Lunch
As hot as I was, when it was time for lunch, I couldnāt shake a craving for a hot flatbread pizza.
I used a FlatOut healthy grain flatbread as the crust and topped it with marinara sauce, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella and shredded cheese. (This meal made me miss my family and our flatbread pizza competitionā¦ that I lost.)
I am particularly proud of the fresh basil you see on top of my pizza in the above picture. Itās from the basil plant weāve had for a good three weeks.
Still living and thriving! Thatās saying something since I basically have a black thumb when it comes to keeping foliage alive.

Speaking of puns, when I was in high school, my earth science teacher would award extra credit points to students who successfully came up with a pun in his class. It definitely kept the class engaged.
As an adult, I now realize that teacher was a genius! He kept the class hanging on his every word while also encouraging us to think and share our own creative puns with our classmates. By the end of the semester, our class was a big bunch of cheeseballs, dropping puns both inside the classroom and outside the classroom whenever we had a chance.
Every Friday, the same teacher would also read us a story from the Darwin Awards book he had on his desk. In case youāre not familiar with the Darwin Awards, they ācommemorate individuals who protect our gene pool by making the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives. Darwin Award winners eliminate themselves in an extraordinarily idiotic manner, thereby improving our species’ chances of long-term survival.ā
Letās just say this teacher was quite a character and I always looked forward to his class every day.

Sometimes I miss learning in a classroom environment! It’s fun to engage with teachers and other students and to sometimes feel smart. Haha. I especially miss the heated discussions in literature class! Fun times–maybe I should go back and study some more. (Although when you put it that way, it doesn’t sound that appealing anymore.) š
i miss the classroom environment, too. i’d love to go back to school – but w/o the studying and tests. š
Barnes and Noble used to have B&N University – you could take literature courses – no tests š My dad was really into it for a while but since I was in real college still, the idea of studying for fun was the furthest thing from my mind. Now tho…. I might like it. I just took a three quarter Italian course “for fun.” It had tests though, which were less than stellar.

I love making pizza’s on flatout wraps. They taste exactly like flatbread! š
I miss being in school, well everything about it except the homework and tests. If I could go back and not have homework and tests, I most definitely would š
I’m all ABOUT the puns, they’re my favorite guilty pleasure when it comes to humor. I always feel like my favorite characters on shows are the ones that tell the worst jokes featuring puns (Michael Scott comes to mind…) It’s almost like they’re pun-ishing the audience.
(Clearly, I was really reaching with that one.)

I’m going to Barcelona this weekend where its 80degrees and I feel like I’m going to the Bahamas! It’s about 50 here at the moment. Heat is still a novelty!

I am always freezing in our house during the summer too…some how the air always magically gets turned up! Plus the Arizona heat makes the 70’s feel amazing, which I am loving these days!

i killed the first two i bought, too! maybe third time’s a charm? i just put it in sunlight and water it every day – but i’m careful not to OVER water. i think that’s what i did w/ the first one.

Ohh love that 77 degrees is cool for you in Florida.. here in SF, everyone gets so excited if we ever see the high-70s! And yay for the flatbread pizza! I actually just posted about my own today š I’m not very good at puns but get very excited when I come up with one! Haha I think that shows just how lame I am!
LOL, I’m all for puns too! My favourite teachers were always the quirky ones as well. It makes classes so much more interesting!
And about feeling a little chilly, I have my office space heater on daily, even in the summer! I know it’s probably not very energy efficient, but if the AC wasn’t on so darn high I’d happily switch it off!
That reminds me of a teach I had in junior high- who was also an earth science teacher. He had a shaved head and look just like Mr. Clean. (that is what he dressed up as on Halloween). He was always talking about the Darwin awards too, those people are crazy!
i LOVE flat bread pizzas!! endless possibilities they provide. have you ever tried cutting it up into chip size pieces, spray with a touch of oil and salt and bake at 400 for just 5 min-ish? they turn into crispy, crunch chips, perfect for dipping in guac, hummus, salsa, etc. a nice alternative to standard pita chips (which also seem to be much more calorically dense)

Sounds like my biology teacher in high school. I looked forward to his “joke of the day” everyday! He also told us he had a duck impression and built it up for months. The “duck” impression was just ducking behind his desk until we got it.
I love puns!! the cornier the better… and I tried one of those flatbreads as a pizza crust – excellent recommendation so quick and easy AND healthy!!!

I grew a basil plant this summer as well and was really happy with the results! š My math teacher would give us extra credit points if we brought in a math comic-I love when teachers try to incorporate fun and learning! š

My stepdad is the WORST with puns (and corny jokes in general.) He is bald, and one day he came in from working in the yard and there was a leaf stuck to his head, unbeknownst to him. My mom and I started giggling and my mom said “There’s (giggle) a leaf (giggle) on your head!” And we both kept laughing. He looked at us for a minute and said “…..Leaf me alone!”
My mom and I still talk about that one to this day and it was at least 6 years ago!

I just saw that puppy face on this am’s post…so cute. I would hate to think of him in trouble! Ty and I went on a run this am and then swung by the puppy store so I could get my “fix”, however, they were CLOSED! Urgh, I wish I had a doggy!
I have a few high school teachers that I still remember! We had a chem teacher that was this crazy Russian. On the first day of school, he literally picked up a chair, threw it ACROSS THE CLASSROOM, turned to us and said, “That’s physics.” Then he went over to the vented hood, blew something up, and said, “And that’s chemistry. You’re in chem class. Any questions?” To this day, I STILL remember him fondly. Talk about a way to grab the attention of high school students!

yes! all day in the sunlight and then i water it 1x a day – but take care not to over water. i think that was my problem before!
You’re pizza recipe looks like its really good, I’ll have to give it a try! I make a similar pizza using tortillas, but the flatbreads you use look a lot more substantial. I also add in some grilled chicken slices to top my pizzas to add in a little more protein to my meals.
That pun made me think of the Grilled Cheesus episode of Glee! I LOVED that one!
