My mom was here… and then, just like that, she’s gone again!
(That picture makes me want to go back to London!)
My mom arrived in Ocala around 11 a.m. and we spent the next few hours together working on some personal business.
We made sure to take time to meet up with Ryan for lunch at Crisper’s where we all ordered salads.
I ordered the southwest salad with blackened chicken, corn, black beans, tomatoes, carrots and green peppers.
After lunch, my mom and I got back to business and ran some errands before she had to get back on the road with Sadie.
Sadie will be spending the weekend with my parents since Ryan and I will be running our little hearts out in Savannah.
Speaking of Savannah, I checked the weather forecast for the morning of our race this afternoon…
For us Florida folks, temperatures in the 40s are cold, but I like running in chilly weather about 10,000 times more than weather that makes me feel like my skin is going to melt off my bones.
I’m thinking I’ll wear running capris, a dri-fit tank and a long-sleeved lightweight hoodie on race day. I’ll probably bring a fleece with me to the race site, but leave it at the bag check before we run.
I’m not very experienced in chilly-weather running, but I’m pretty sure temperatures close to 50 degrees are ideal for distance races.
I know this may sound crazy, but I feel like I’m almost as excited about the race expo as I am about the race itself.
Check out the description:
For two days, over 60 exhibitors will offer free samples, showcase the latest in running gear, sports apparel, health & nutritional information and much more.
I didn’t even know what a race expo was until last year when I attended one before the Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon. Now I know that they’re jam packed with free samples and booths filled with awesome workout gear. So much fun!
I think I’m ready to be in Savannah now.

That sounds like it’s going to be great running weather! At least it won’t be humid or anything of that nature. Best of luck to you!! 🙂

Good luck at the race this weekend!

Since I live in Boston, and 40 degrees is actually decent temp at this time of the year, I would really recommend gloves and earmuffs or hat for the race too! Sometimes I’ll get earaches if I run in cold weather without earmuffs!
Good luck and have a ton of fun!!

I love Savannah! And it sounds like perfect race weather! I ran a half marathon in Atlanta last weekend and they had pizza at the finish… before 10am, it was awesome! And they had candy for us to trick or treat! Hopefully they’ll have a great post-race set-up for you guys. Good luck!!!

That is AWESOME! I want to go to an expo 😀 Have soo much fun and rock that race! I’m a Floridian too, man that’s cold. But definitely beats our usual 90 degree weather! Good luck 😀

You are going to have an AMAZING race- you’ve worked so hard!! I don’t think I need to tell you this, but have fun!!
I ran a race in DC last weekend and it was in the upper 30’s at the start and I was so angry that I forgot gloves! My fingers were so cold! So I suggest bringing little gloves you can stick in your pockets?? ($1 at Target right now) just a thought!

As far as race wear, I’d reccomend bringing disposable items. I usually wear an old long sleeve shirt and throw it to the side when I get hot. So much easier than having to worry about it and less nervewracking then the last minute bag check run.
I also reccomend tube socks for arm/hand coverage at the start line!

The expo is always fun – have fun and goodluck! The weather looks perfect!

runnersworld has an AWESOME tool where you put in the weather conditions and how you like to feel on your runs (warmers or cooler). Then it tells you what you should wear! It’s pretty great. I referred to it right before my marathon last weekend when I was trying to decide between shorts and tights!
