We started talking about how cool it was that we not only finished at the exact same time, but all of our splits were identical as well.
Then Ryan said, “I wonder how we placed.”
I knew what he meant.
I wonder who actually won.
We hurriedly opened up his laptop and entered our information into the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll results site.
Someone started gloating and that someone wasn’t me.
Not only did Ryan “beat” me according to the technical results, but another person somehow squeezed in between us with their identical time. (I feel like it was Sadie’s spirit. I swear that dog body slams into us whenever we try to hug without her.)
Don’t be fooled by the hand holding. One mile before the finish I was cursing Ryan and hating him for making me run that fast.
All was forgiven at the finish line.
Dinner
Dinner tonight was roasted chicken with veggies (and a bunch of granola that I ate while waiting for the chicken to finish cooking).
I prepared the chicken using the same incredibly simple recipe I used for the first time back in September, only I used thyme in place of the paprika.
I ate a breast, leg and lots of veggies and picked at the chicken at the table (so classy) before wrapping up the rest and storing it in the fridge to enjoy another day.
And now more of that granola is calling my name…
The Sing Off is on tonight!

Hi Julie: I went to the link for the roast chicken to check out the recipe and it says to throw out the skin and veggies??? Why throw out the veggies…do you? I’ve never made a whole roast chicken before. Thanks! Congrats on your half marathon!!!

awe that picture of you two holding hands crossing the finish line is SO SWEET! 🙂 I’ve been trying to talk my boyfriend into running a race with me, but he absolutely hates running. I just emailed him that picture for some inspiration…hope it works!

when i ran my first 5k with my husband, he let me pull as we crossed the finish line…at least a stride or 2 (or so i thought). when we got the results, he actually finished a second FASTER than me! apparently my chip was on my trailing leg and his was on his leading leg. he still hasn’t let me live it down…and now i always pay attention to what leg crosses first!
SkinnyRunner says
your guys photos are cute. i woulda been tripping my husband to finish in front of him.
Mary says
I also thought the picture looked like your foot crossed the finish line before Ryan’s. I think it is about when the foot with the chip crosses. Next time!!!
Amber K says
The pictures definitely don’t lie, you’re clearly in front of him!

That pic brought tears to my eyes, the hand-holding was too sweet.
Question for Ryan, how can I encourage my man to run with me? He always makes a funny face at me when I ask him.
Ann-Mari says
this is so inspirational! I go running with my boyfriend too, but we are nowhere near this proficient yet 🙂
Abigail says
Oh my goodness, I love everything about this post! I’m pretty sure this conversation has happened at least twice with my husband and I AND not only do I always curse him 3/4 the way through races and runs, we always finish “cute”! Even though we both know what a b— I was 20 minutes prior – Hahah! This makes me ridiculously happy! And that chicken, omg!!
Sara says
I love, love, love the picture of you and your husband holding hands at the finish line! So cute! I immediately decided that my boyfriend and I needed one just like it but then I remembered that he wouldn’t run a marathon even if someone offered him a million bucks! Oh well I guess I’ll just have to enviously stare at yours. Love your blog!
