…you forget to watch your oatmeal in the microwave because you have a spoon in the Nutella jar.
Oops.
I ate my remaining Kashi instant oats topped with blueberries and served them with a side of grapes and black cherry Greek yogurt.
Breakfast was enjoyed after a sweaty workout.
I awoke around 5:45 a.m. and drove to the gym to sneak in a quick workout before everyone else was awake and bustling about.
I started with 20 minutes on the elliptical before hopping off to do an upper-body workout that looked a lot like Monday’s workout.
After the gym, I came home and ate breakfast on the patio. The view at my parents’ house definitely trumps the view at our house.
Plans for the day:
- Dentist
- Bake, bake, bake
- Assemble Turkey Trot costumes
- Handful of Thanksgiving-related errands
The holiday madness officially starts today!
Alexa @ SimpleEats says
I totally feel you with the view! My parents live in Punta Gorda, and I’m always so jealous when I sit outside compared to my apt view in Boston!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Can’t wait to see what you’re baking up for Thanksgiving!!
Jamie @ Don't Forget The Cinnamon says
Oooh I’ve done that before with my oatmeal!! SUCH a bummer.
Happy holidays!
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
Ahhh – hate it when oatmeal boils over. It’s so sticky. I be the Nutella made up for it though (can’t get enough of that stuff!).
The Healthy Hipster says
Dang, exploding oatmeal is the worst! But its the price we pay for that thick creamy goodness I suppose. Can’t wait to see what you bake up! 🙂
Mattie @ Comfy & Confident says
Love Nutella! It was the most amazing spread around. A spoonful of Peanut Butter and a spoonful of Nutella is the perfect combo!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
i had both! 🙂 and i agree – fantastic combo!
Morgan @ Life After Bagels says
do you want to say … slip me the address to your parents house (and maybe a plane ticket! haha) …. it most definitely does not look like that at my house, and actually it’s not Thanksgiving tomorrow at my house either – double fail!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Haha that used to happen to me all the time when I microwaved my oats (now I do stove top!) I would just scoop it back in and pretend nothing happened…
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Hahah definetly can relate to that oatmeal incident…. 🙂
Hope says
I’ve definitely had that happen to me with oatmeal at work nonetheless. Embarrassing 😉 Can’t wait to see what desserts you are making! Happy Thanskgiving Eve!
Jackie @ Bringing Home the Bacon says
I did something similar yesterday… I was in a hurry to get out the door and stuck the Nutella in the fridge… This morning when I went to put it on my toast it was hard as a rock! Bummer!
Caroline Calcote says
We’re doing the St. Pete Times Turkey Trot too! I’m going to be walking the Fun Run 5K with my two little boys and husband. It’s nostalgic for me, since last year the SPTimes Turkey Trot was the first 5K where I ran the entire distance. After just having done the WHM, I may just cry again when we are there. Huge crowds, though! Have fun…I wish I could find you to see your costumes, but I’ll see them on your blog.
dana says
Since I’ve been reading your blog, I think you’ve been to the dentist at least 3 times…AND, I haven’t been once in that time frame. Maybe it’s time I make an appointment, haha!
peanutbutterfingers says
every 6 months! 🙂
dana says
Oh you’re good! I think it’s my fear of the dentist that keeps me from going 🙂
khushboo says
Stove top oats for the win! 🙂
Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health says
Oh I hate it when oatmeal overflows! It can be so messy haha. Can’t wait to see what your Turkey trot costumes are :D. I hope you have a great day and bake some delicious goodies…and eat some of the batter in the process ;).
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
Who among us hasn’t been distracted by Nutella?! 😉

Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
Do you like the Kashi instant oats? I really feel like they taste like paste. Maybe I need to doctor them up more.
peanutbutterfingers says
i think they’re okay – i prefer regular oatmeal though.
Michelle @ Blogitness says
I would love to wake-up to that view. Unfortunately, there is nothing like that in PA!
diana@mymarblerye says

Hilliary @Happily Ever Healthy says
What a great view to have while you eat breakfast! My view today while eating breakfast was my computer screen. I decided to go to work extra early in order to get off super early! Hope your day goes well, enjoy the holiday madness!
Lena @ Fit on the Rocks says
Man, I would love to wake up to that view every morning. I guess the mountains here aren’t half bad to look at either.

Can’t wait to see your outfits for tomorrow’s race!!
Hope you & your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
Anna says
Julie,
have you ever tried the Justin’s chocolate hazelnut butter? Its delicious and better for you than Nutella b/c it has less sugar and is mostly nuts. I highly recommend it, although the only place I’ve seen it is a fresh market, so it may be tricky to track down.
Paula says
Happy Thanksgiving Julie!! I can’t wait to see your turkey trot costumes…I think I might do one next year just so I can dress up in something ridiculous haha.
Beautiful view at your parents house! My in-laws live on the water and the view is always a nice perk of visiting!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
You must be having Thanksgiving deja vu!
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile says

I admire you for getting up at 5.45! And you reminded me that it is time to buy a jar of nutella, haven’t had it in such a long time.
Amy says

courtney @ cupcakedynamite says
😮 I didn’t even know turkey trots involved costumes!
Allison says
I seem ti explode my oatmeal in the microwave quite frequently… But no worries, it doesn’t go to waste and is scooped back into the bowl 😛
Baking Serendipity says
Gorgeous view! I get distracted and let my oatmeal overflow in the microwave all.the.time. You’d think I’d have learned my lesson by now. Wishing you a great Thanksgiving, and luck in your turkey trot!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Haha I’d totally get distracted with a jar of Nutella too! 😉

I’m sure you have tried it, but Nutella mixed into oatmeal is the bee’s knees : )

Nutella? For breakfast? Can I be you?
On another quote, if you can (and if you want!) spread this Gratitute video in time for Thanksgiving, that’d be awesome sauce! You’ll like it:

Sara says
I think this is a general issue with Kashi oatmeal. I eat oatmeal almost every morning and I never have an issue of oatmeal explosion except with Kashi, you need to watch it like a hawk!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Hhahah. That’s happened to me before too!
YAH for holidays!!!
Lisa says
I’m so impressed by your early morning workouts, do you eat anything first? I seriously need to eat IMMEDIATELY after waking and only a large breakfast will do so I’m left with cramp risk and not a lot of time in the morning (I’ve tried the banana-run-breakfast sequence a few times but it feels terrible and affects my performance). I’d love some tips on fitting in/energizing for an am workout!
Pamela says
I can’t tell you how many times my oatmeal has exploded in the microwave!!!
