Cravin’ Bacon

November 29, 2011 by Julie 49 Comments

The weather is a little chilly tonight! Chilly enough for Ugg boots and a hoodie on our evening walk with Sadie. Not chilly enough to see your breath in the cold air.

I’ll take even the tiniest bit of a chill in Florida around the holidays! It makes it feel more like the holiday season I was used to growing up in Illinois.

Our chilly evening walk took place after dinner… a very good dinner featuring bacon!

Today I went to the grocery store hungry which meant I left with an inordinate amount of chocolate, cheese and bacon. Shopping on an empty stomach always prompts me to buy anything that looks great in the moment and today that was bacon!

Tonight’s dinner centered around the bacon but also included fresh produce and creamy Chavrie goat cheese!

Ryan and I made bacon, tomato, goat cheese and arugula sandwiches on toasted honey wheat bread. (The arugula made me miss my favorite arugula, feta and watermelon salad from this summer!)

The goat cheese spread like silk on the hot, toasty bread!

Our sandwiches were served with a side of (oversalted) roasted asparagus.

As we ate dinner, I had the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas CD playing in the background which prompted Ryan to say that with our fancy-looking sandwiches and fancy music, it felt like we were eating at Panera… because that place is fancy, you know.

Off to hang with my little family!

sounds super yummy!! I’ll have to try this out sometime this week! I’ve already tried your ‘healthy’ chicken strips and the buffalo chicken sandwhich… Both were great! :)) I’m kinda hooked on goat cheese right now so this looks divine!! I also just worked out and haven’t eaten dinner yet so am salivating as I’m typing…haha. I haven’t had bacon in forever it’s just not something I normally crave… but now I am totally craving it!! Haha, imagine that!!

Grocery shopping hungry is so dangerous but I love what you’ve done with it! And, dog walks in Uggs and sweatshirts are my favorite this time of year. I grew up in Ohio and now live in Phoenix and love when the weather breaks here.

I have to say, this sounds even better than the salad to me. Feta for me never holds a candle to goat cheese. I swear feta mostly tastes of salt to me, where as goat cheese is so creamy and tangy.
