Things I’m Loving Friday #585

March 6, 2026 by Julie Leave a Comment

Hello from the world of kid activities! We’ve held off on a jam-packed kid activity schedule for a full decade because both Ryan and I feel incredibly strongly about the importance and value of home time and downtime for young kids. That being said, the boys are each in more than one activity this spring and our calendar is FULL. The end of our week in particular is a little wild with practices and games and tonight we have soccer games in two separate locations for Chase and Ryder. We’ll have to divide and conquer but both big kids are excited for their first games of the spring season. And ya know I’ll be evaluating the heck out of how this busier activity schedule impacted all of us once this spring season is over.

Weekend plans aren’t too full though and include dog training for Comet, a preschool event for Rhett, flag football for Chase and fam jam time in the midst of all of it! I’ll do my best to share a recap here on Monday but until then, keep on scrolling for a peek into this week’s favorites, Things I’m Loving Friday style!

Things I’m Loving Friday

  • Fine Point Pens (Black, Blue and Multicolor Ink)

Amazon pens fine tip

I love that so many of you share my love for a good pen! I will forever and ever recommend TUL gel pens (they write like a dream) and I love how many of you love them, too! Whenever I receive pen recommendations, my interest is always piqued even though I’ve been in a long-term (one way?) relationship with TUL. I couldn’t resist trying out a new pen because this one popped up as a top recommendation from you guys time and time again.

These Amazon pens have a very fine (0.5 mm) point which is different from what I typically prefer. At first I wasn’t so sure because they are so fine but as I kept using them over and over again I found myseld reaching for them constantly and came to thoroughly appreciate their ultra-smooth glide, precise writing and the quick-dry not-at-all runny ink. Like really, really appreciate it. Is it weird I actually think these pens make my handwriting look better!? Is that even possible from a pen?

And possibly the biggest selling point for me is the fact that these pens are available in a multipack of colors and color-ink pens are notoriously awful. These pens write so well and are perfect for someone like me who cannot let my inner 12-year-old go and loves to color-code things in my calendar/notebooks.

  • Geometry Butter Blanket

geometry code butter blanket review

A while back, I mentioned my newfound love for Geometry kitchen towels because they’re wrinkle-free, absorbent and quick-drying (not to mention cute)! I ended up including one in a little collection of goodies for my girlfriends in this year’s Galentine’s favorite things gift exchange (and also as a Valentine’s Day teacher gift!) and when I ordered the additional kitchen towels, I also ordered one of their butter blankets. (I couldn’t resist the one that actually says BUTTER on it because we joke that straight-up butter is one of Ryder’s favorite foods ever since he took a bite out of a whole stick as a toddler.) I’m a bit of a blanket snob and it takes a lot for me to really double down and highly recommend a blanket but this one is so silky soft and the perfect lightweight spring/summer blanket. It’s not too thick or warm but cozy enough to feel like a hug and soft enough to feel luxurious. I also think this one would be a fantastic travel/car blanket. It’s a true delight and I love it so much! And good news! My Geometry code — PBFINGERS — works on their blankets as well to save ya 15% site wide. I should know because I used it to order this one!

  • Mini Kid Entertainment Bag

kid entertainment bag

Ya know all of those kid activities I mentioned at the start of this blog post? Well, they mean we’ve needed some easy-to-grab kid entertainment options for those not participating in whatever activity we’re attending at the moment. This handy pencil case bag has been hugely helpful, as I keep it stocked with coloring/drawing supplies, card games, mini toys, etc. It’s also small enough to throw into a bigger bag (what I do most often), making it all the more handy to grab whenever we need it. I’ll often have Rhett (as he’s usually the one spectating) stock the back himself which he seems to enjoy!

Here’s what we have packed in the bag this week: Kanoodle (a puzzle/brain teaser that’s a massive hit with all 3 of our boys), small notebook + Crayola Super Tips Markers (the tips of these markers work well for both coloring and drawing/writing), Flip7 (our family’s recent obsession), Crazy Apes and Go Farm! card games (ours are from the Dollar Store but this multi-pack has an assortment of great card games for young kids), a mini memory game and Hot Wheels cars.

  • Jar Opener Mini Tool

jar opener tool

I am a big fan of little additions that make life easier and this handy little jar opener is worth its weight in gold. It’s such a simple tool but makes opening jars with lids that seem fully committed to never being removed an absolute breeze.

A few additional finds like this that I love and swear by: Lil’ Chizler (the best for removing stuck-on food bits from pans, countertops, etc.), Unbuckle Me (so helpful for kids to get themselves out of car seats on their own when they’re younger and their finger strength isn’t quite there yet — my mom actually uses it, too!), meat chopper (the best for breaking up ground beef/chicken/turkey), garlic roller (easily removes the peel from garlic cloves), lemon/lime juicer (I love that it’s small and has a built-in measuring cup)

  • Kindling Protein Pretzels (Churro Flavor!)

kindling protein pretzels

I’m fairly certain I’ve shared these protein pretzels on the blog before but this week I tried a new-to-me flavor that blew me away. As a sweet-and-salty superfan the churro flavor of Kindling protein pretzels is a dream! It gives me Auntie Anne’s vibes but in a crunchy, healthy kind of way. This flavor has also officially claimed the boys’ top flavor spot so ya know we’ll be ordering these on repeat! (I’m also a superfan of the honey mustard if that’s more your thing. Honestly, the only flavor I don’t like is the plain.)

  • Three Days in June by Anne Tyler

Genre: Family Drama / My Rating: A-

When Ryan asked about the book I was reading and I tried giving him a synopsis of this short novel, I said, “It’s about the day before, during and after the wedding of the daughter of a somewhat socially awkward mother.” My answers to his follow-up questions would’ve had you thinking this was the most boring book in the world and yet it wasn’t! It was charming, funny, interesting and an oddly cozy little read by a very talented author (she won a Pulitzer)! If you’ve read my book reviews in the past, you know I have a soft spot for socially awkward, quirky main characters (Molly the Maid, Joe Nuthin’, Eleanor Oliphant) and now you can add Gail from Three Days in June to this list.

From Amazon: Gail Baines is having a bad day. To start, she loses her job—or quits, depending on whom you ask. Tomorrow her daughter, Debbie, is getting married, and she hasn’t even been invited to the spa day organized by the mother of the groom. Then, Gail’s ex-husband, Max, arrives unannounced on her doorstep, carrying a cat, without a place to stay, and without even a suit. But the true crisis lands when Debbie shares with her parents a secret she has just learned about her husband to be. It will not only throw the wedding into question but also stir up Gail and Max’s past.

  • Acrylic Purse/Bag Organizer (My closet shelf already feels less chaotic!)
  • Amazon Hoop Earrings: Super Thin (50mm) + Slightly Thicker (40mm) (As a hoop-lover, I’ve been super impressed with Amazon hoop earrings. These are two hypoallergenic pairs I’ve worn on repeat for months.)
  • Percy Pig Gummy Candy (The delicious dye-free gummy candy Ryan always brings us back from London — now available at Target!)
  • No Makeup Makeup (My fav beauty find of 2025 — the smallest amount of product covers redness, dark spots and dark circles in the most natural-looking way. Note: I DO think the brush is important!)
  • Ruggable Kamran Rug (We have this pattern in our kitchen, mudroom and a few bathrooms in our house. Code PBFINGERS15 saves 15%)
  • Ruffle Strap Workout Top (An Amazon gem I’ve had for years. It’s held up great through lots of workouts.)
  • aerie Sweatshirt (So comfy and I love the pop of color.)
  • ROZ Shampoo + Conditioner (I was shocked to see this one pop up because I only mentioned it in passing but I hope you guys are loving it as much as I do! For the most part, I don’t notice much of a difference in how my hair feels with various shampoos/conditioners but this duo was a true pleasant surprise. I genuinely feel like it has helped my overall hair health and it never leaves my super-fine hair weighed down.)
  • True & Co. Bra (My most-worn bra for years and years. You cannot beat the comfort.)

Whole Wheat Banana Muffins

February 25, 2026 by Julie 3 Comments

I swear I get some of my very best recipe inspiration from you guys. And, wouldn’t you know, sometimes this inspiration comes from your takes on my recipes, as is the case with this wonderfully fragrant and oh-so-fluffy batch of whole wheat banana muffins. Remember my whole wheat pumpkin muffins? The muffin recipe I shared years ago that … [Continue reading...]
