Oh my word, you guys all need to become professional party planners.
Your ideas for a theme for the formal night of our cruise were fantastic. I am about to send an email to the cruise group with a summary of your ideas and I’ll be sure to keep you posted as to which theme comes out on top.
In case you’re in the market for some party theme ideas, here are some of my favorites taken straight from the comments section of this morning’s post:
- Prom (I envision Dumb and Dumber tuxedos for the guys and big sleeves or lots of sequins for the girls)
- Canadian tuxedos (A denim on denim extravaganza)
- Disney princes and princesses
- Royal wedding (Imagine the crazy hats!)
- Safari/Animal print (A perfect clashing of tackiness and class)
- Jersey Shore
- Pick a decade: ‘20s, ‘50s, ‘60s, etc.
- Ken and Barbie
- Famous couples
- Toddlers and Tiaras/Pageant wear
- America themed – a vision in red, white and blue (This idea cracks me up!)
- Kentucky Derby/Old South (Big hats, dresses and monocles)
- Color theme (Everyone is completely color coordinated)
- Neon formal
Unreal, right?
I feel like I need to be back in college planning sorority socials or something with all of these amazing ideas.
Camo, baby! The most overdone theme in the history of sorority socials.
Lunch
After working through the morning, I met up with my friend Lindsey for an early afternoon hike with Sadie. It was a great “lunch break” in my day and Sadie got some much-needed exercise since I worked through her usual walk time this morning.
Lindsey and I had a great time talking about anything and everything and our hike went by so fast!
When Sadie and I returned from our hike, it was lunchtime. I made myself a plate of food to eat in front of the computer as I worked away.
My meal included a cheddar cheese and turkey bagelwich, served with string cheese, carrots and a cup of passion fruit Greek yogurt, a new flavor recently introduced by Chobani that the company sent me to try.
Oh my gosh, this Greek yogurt is easily one of the best flavors of Greek yogurt I’ve ever tried. I think it’s a combination of the fact that the yogurt is 2 percent (extra creamy), has a little bit of crunch from the passion fruit seeds and the perfect amount of sweetness. It may even replace my beloved strawberry banana!
And now it’s back to work!
Stay tuned this evening because I came across something awfully entertaining that I just have to share with you guys as I was digging through old stuff this morning for an upcoming post about Valentine’s Day ideas.
Here’s a little clue…
HRCK the Herald says
Have you tried the new Chobani Blood Orange flavor? I have it in my fridge, and I cannot wait to open one up!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
yes! it’s good! of the three new flavors the passion fruit is my fav. 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Hmmm I’m guessing that’s an old yearbook photo of someone? I’m excited to find out! 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Ooh one more party theme (could be good or potentially disastrous) – duct tape! You could see who is most creative with making outfits, and you’d all look very colour coordinated!
Lauri says
Have you tried the apple cinnamon Chobani? YUM!! I love their new flavors…as well as the new kids Chobani Champion flavors (yes I buy kids yogurt for myself!) – I love the vanilla chocolate chunk!
dee says
Either that’s a photo of ryans long locks of love, or it’s your 80s style bangs (which I’m sure you’re way too young for)?!
Hope says
I really want to try the new Chobani champion flavors! I haven’t seen them anywhere yet.
I’m guessing that is an old picture of Ryan. I think I remember you posting a picture of him a long time ago when he had long hair!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
wow, those sure are a ton of super fun party themes! i’m interested to see which one will be the favorite!
i haven’t heard many people give reviews on the new chobani passion fruit flavor yet, so i’m glad to hear it’s so yummy! i’m definitely a fan of the 2% flavors since they’re so rich and creamy. i also really want to try the apple cinnamon!
Katie says
I’m thinking that is an old picture of Ryan! Can’t wait to see what it’s about!
Linda says
I liked the flavor of the passion fruit Chobani but I hated the seeds. The blood orange is my favorite!
Michelle (Better with Berries) says
Oh my goodness, those themes are amazing. I really love “Royal Wedding” because the hats would be so fun. And I have to love the red, white, and blue theme because my boyfriend and I go all out on 4th of July in red, white, and blue every year. We spend the rest of the year looking for the perfect outfit 🙂
Jessica @ RUNMEM says
The only flavor of the new yogurt I’ve tried is Apple Cinnamon – I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the pieces of apple in the yogurt but I actually like it! I had one this morning with breakfast 🙂 You’ve inspired me to try the passion fruit next time.
Mallory @ Have your cake says
I am way too boring and always rely on my old standby Cho flavors – plain and vanilla! the others are just too sweet for me. but ill have to try them – i try all flavors at least once !
Hilliary @Happily Ever Healthy says
Those are some great ideas! Love the Disney prince and princess one!
Andrea @ Andrea Out Loud! says
Haha yes i really hope that is an old picture of ryan!! haha i just love old pictures in general 🙂
natalie @ southern fit foodie says
Those ideas are all so much fun!!! I love the neon formal.
I haven’t tried the passion fruit flavor yet, but the new apple cinnamon is delicious!
erica says
omg, i hope you do toddlers & tiaras! i saw a couple do that for halloween and i thought it was the most hilarious thing ever!
i LOVE the passion fruit chobani…but i HATE HATE HATE the seeds! i can’t get past them! 🙁
Tori Hiatt @ Toning Up With Tori says
That flavor of yogurt is amazing! It was so funny I was eating it during one of my college classes and the seeds were so loud and crunchy people were staring at me haha. Other great flavors that are new is Apples and Cinnamon (it’s like dessert) and Blood Orange. You have to try them!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Oh that flavor sounds SO good–yumm!!
And yeah, I need to take some of those ideas everyone posted and work ’em in somehow to a party! <—lots of good ideas people chirped up about!
Julie says
The Passion Fruit yogurt was so delicious. I have the apple cinnamon in my fridge to try in a little bit!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I’m dying to try the passion fruit! I love the apple cinnamon and blood orange! Andall those party themes make me miss college!
danielle says
All great themes!! I can’t wait for pictures!!!
Nicole @ Giraffelegs says
hahah my sorority had never done a camo them but we have done alien theme, and trashy theme. haha
Gen says
Haha, great party themes! I like th Ken and Barbie one, and the Disney couples, that could be fun.
Anna says
those are all awesome ideas! they make me crave a good college party hahaha. and speaking of prom, it is really disturbing how prom dress style seems to have gotten stuck in the 80’s…minus half the fabric. I’ve been in and out of David’s Bridal lately to find b-maid dresses and the prom dress section is BLINDING!
Ruthie Hart says
I forgot to give you a part theme idea…….WIG PARTY! I hosted one for my husbands birthday last year and it was hysterical. We actually got the same wig (short pink/orange bob) and wore matching black dresses. And it wasnt the first time he dressed as a woman. He wants to have another one!
Lena @ Fit on the Rocks says
haha those were the reasons I didn’t like the passion fruit flavor. I love the Kentucky Derby/Royal wedding idea because the hats would be freakin amazing!
Martina says
Canadian tuxedo’s? demi on demi? Where do american’s get this stuff….
peanutbutterfingers says
haha! i was surprised by that, too! i’ve always called them “texas tuxedos.”
Kristina says
I was actually wondering that too…I’m Canadian and I dont think I’ve ever seen anyone wear a denim on denim combo before here other than maybe my 91 year old grandpa! I don’t know if I should be offended or not haha, to me plaid jackets are a bit more Canadian than denim.
On a different note, I wish we could get Chobani here in Canada!
Emily says
I’m Canadian too, and have NEVER seen anyone do the denim on denim combo. Just thought it was a 90’s thing ! slightly insulted 😛 , Canadians have better taste than Americans think!
Kristina says
haha I think its just a stereotype more or less. Just like we have 12 months of snow, or everyone in the US is obese. Both are false, but yes there are places in Canada where there is a lot of snow, there are places (like where I live) where we get no snow. Some Americans (alike Canadians, too) are obese, but others are healthier than most. I’m sure there are some guilty people out there in both Canada and the US that have worn denim combos – but hopefully I won’t be one of them other than if its for a fun party like what Julie is attending haha. It is nice to see another fellow Canadian that noticed that as well!
Sloane says
I love all the ideas! That is going to be really hard picking just one… and why limit yourself to just formal night. Pick a different theme ever night of the cruise,
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Love all the ideas! 🙂
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
LOVE the royal wedding and kentucky derby ones! I must have a thing for hats, lol.
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
I love all the new Chobani flavors! So good & nice to add a little variety to my Cho rotation!
katelyngarlow says
I LOVE the famous couples idea! oh, and the animal print… that would be so funny!
Merri says
Ryan’s hair circa 2003
peanutbutterfingers says
not fair! you know! 🙂 it was a vision, wasn’t it? 😉
Millie says
My parents went a great party a few years ago where the host provided menus to each of the guests. However, instead of names and descriptions, they got names like:
“Favored by slovenly and selfish felines” (Lasagna) or
“A wild a crazy card game that often results in blood shed” (spoons). Everyone had to choose six items, from the list, including their utensils and what they wanted to drink. If you didn’t guess the descriptions correctly, you could end up with some crazy combinations. My dad had to eat the lasagna with jelly and CHOPSTICKS!!
As you can tell, some of the food items were really simplistic and could/should be eaten cold (condiments, quick desserts, chips and salsa, fresh veggies) and there were only two “main dishes” so the host said that it wasn’t too much work. After everyone ate their “meal” anyone who didn’t get enough to eat was able to raid the kitchen during the rest of the party. Everyone had a blast!!
MJ says
Ok I have an idea that I think could be hillarious.
Geek theme.
You wear formal clothes, but you all have big glasses with tape on the bridge of the glasses (think toy glasses), guys can add suspenders to their suits and in the pocket of the jackets they put a pocket protector and fill with pens etc.. and the guys HAVE to have the pants hiked up too. lol
Krysta says
I’m hoping that sneak peak is an old photo of someone with some awsome late 80s/early 90s hair!
Lindsay @ Chobani says
Ooooh, Julie, so glad to hear you’re digging the Passion Fruit. The 2% creaminess does make it extra delish, and it wouldn’t be authentic without the seeds. Happy spooning! 🙂
Katy @ A Shot of Life says
Love the party ideas! I’d love to throw a Royal Wedding themed party!
On another note- I’m absolutely 100% in love with the passion fruit Chobani! I fell in love with passion fruit in Australia and it’s hard to get in the US- so thank goodness for Chobani! It wouldn’t be the same without the seeds!! 🙂
Paula @ lipstick and lunges says
Ahhh I miss sorority social themes! I swear shopping for the outfits was more fun than the parties themselves. I’m going to a mustache masquerade party tomorrow and am def. having college flashbacks.
Julia says
Is that Ryan’s hair? I find it hilarious that he was once a blonde.
Alaina says
Passion fruit is my favorite! That and black cherry.
Based on what you had posted on Facebook, I’m going to guess that that’s Ryan’s hair! Can’t wait to see what that post turns out to be like. 🙂
Sarah says
Huzzah! Glad Prince and Princess made it on the list. Have fun deciding!!
College Lifestyles says
What about a cupcake party!? I can never get enough of cupcakes! http://collegelifestyles.org/2012/01/cls-guide-to-planning-a-cupcake-party/
Leigh says
Those are some awesome ideas! I’m partial to the 50s idea, then again I am planning my wedding as a 50s style wedding 🙂 By the way, I have totally gone through all your wedding posts! They have been a great help and reference point! I think I’m going to make my own announcements because of you! And maybe some more things… great ways to save a little money for the parents! They potentially have three more weddings and two rehearsal dinners to pay for! With a big family comes a big wad of cash for the wedding decade!

Bailee says
Pineapple will always be my favorite. (Even if it is loaded with sugar!)
Emily N says
Best theme ever? Gillian’s island. Fun outfits (even when there is 10 Mary Anne’s) fruity frozen drinks, and coconuts. 🙂
Julie says
I tried the apple cinnamon and blood orange flavors, but I still love lemon. I’ll have to try the passion fruit soon!
Life's a Bowl says
My vote is for either Disney princes and princesses, royal wedding, or Toddlers and Tiaras/ Pageant wear!
Kaitlan Meyers says
i know this post is from awhile ago, but your post about sorority socials got me thinking. My goal in life is to be as healthy and happy as you and your husband are when I’m your age, but right now I’m in college and its so hard to keep a healthy diet on the weekends! So what I’m wondering is if you think it gets easier after college? For example: did you always wake up at like 7am to workout when you were in college? Haha thank you!
