Scandalous blog post title for a Sunday morning, huh?
Allow me to explain.
I set out to make a batch of pancakes using Bisquick Heart Smart mix. I followed the directions on the back of the box and added about two tablespoons of peanut butter. I wanted to give the batter a little burst of peanutty flavor like my peanut butter pancakes.
I then got side tracked talking to Ryan and watching some documentary about whales on TV. Ryan and I have a serious love for nature documentaries, especially those about whales, sharks and dolphins. (Did any of you see the special about the killer whales that were caught killing great white sharks!? Crazy.)
While watching whales eats thousands of pounds of krill, this happened…
Burn!
I burned one side of the pancakes which gave me no choice but to remove the tops from the fluffy cakes, resulting in topless pancakes!
The burned tops peeled off surprisingly easy and I topped the topless pancakes with syrup.
Not too shabby!
Now it’s time to get dressed and head out to meet up with a friend for coffee before heading to church late this morning.
Catch ya lata!
Question of the Morning
- Do you enjoy watching documentaries? Any favorites?

I was staying with a friend this summer, and he owned the entire Planet Earth series on DVD. We sat and watched nearly the entire thing in one sitting! I’m not usually into those kinds of documentaries, but it was absolutely fascinating!
Abby @ change of pace says
Those pancakes look pretty good without their tops on!
We also love nature documentaries- the Earth series, sharks, lions, you name it!

WE LOVE DOCUMENTARIES! We have raised the kids to LOVE them too. enough with the trashy TV! When we were first married, I couldn’t get pancakes down to save my life—they were my husbands favorite and I burned them every time! Seriously–it didn’t matter what I did–BURNED! Boy, it is chilly in AR this morning! E

My husband is OBSESSED with documentaries. Anything from ESPN 30 on 30 to “Man on a Wire” (which, if you haven’t watched, you totally should). I usually hate on him for it, but end up not being able to stop watching 🙂
Danica @ It's Progression says
this made me laugh…I love to cook but I get distracted from what’s cooking so easily and way too often…I loved the documentary Forks Over Knives but I honestly rarely watch any others!
Claire says
nature documentaries are always mesmerizing and they always leave me in awe. I love the Planet Earth series and the Frozen Planet one that’s on Discovery right now. Makes you really appreciate the earth!
krystal @ coffeecardiogoddess says
Ive definately burned my fair share of pancakes. And I wasnt even distracted by anything! Haha peanut butter makes everything better though:)
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Good idea to just take off the top … usually I just ditch the burned ones, which is such a waste!
Lindsey says
I cannot say I love them but my husband does so we do watch them often. I enjoy health related ones though, whereas he watches any of them. He recent favorite is the frozen earth series – I think you would love it if you have not seen it yet.
Khushboo says
You’re a better person than I…I always get frustrated with burned food and have to start from square 1!
Michelle says
Ha brilliant! Glad to see you saved them! Couldn’t let pancakes go to waste, lucky they were nice and thick!
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
Haha my boyfriend probably wouldn’t have mind the burnt tops, but I would have! I love watching food/health documentaries. It’s kind of sad that I am, but I’m really excited for this series that’s going to premiere on HBO in May about obesity in the US.
Coco says
I looove burnt pancakes–next time send them my way!
Sarah says
Me too! We made pancakes for dinner on Friday and I burned a bunch of mine on purpose. 🙂

hahahaha I was wondering where you were going with the blog title! Have a great sunday!
Alex @ therunwithin says
I have to say my dad was a huge fan of documentaries but always ones about war. My sister and I were always drawn into the animal ones.
I have had my fair share of pancake mishaps… we once tried to make green pancakes for a holiday. Let’s just say they looked like puke. Not appealing.
Lisa says
I actually like when my pancakes or any other food is slightly burned, I’m weird. I seriously am obsessed with documentaries, I love all of them.

My daughter wrote me a note on a paper towel that said ‘got pancakes?’ I didn’t make her any.

We actually had a little burnt mishap this morning as well! My boyfriend was heating up some leftovers in the toaster oven and the whole thing caught on fire! Thank God we caught it in time and were able to put it out!

I’m weird. I love burnt pancakes!
Brianna @ Don't Eat Crap says
I have Netflix so I watch a lot of food documentaries. There are a couple I enjoy. One about two guys who study corn and raise 1 acre of corn and try to track where it goes in the US Food System, Food Inc. (it’s gross!), and this really neat one about these people who dumpster dive at grocery stores looking for left over food that is still good.
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
Hahaha way to make a bad situation good 🙂 Pancakes can be pesky little buggers when it comes to cooking them just right!
Julie says
I like food documentaries like Food, Inc.
Maureen says
I LOVE documentaries! Mostly I will watch anything about American History, but if it is historical, I am in!
FitPhilanthropist says
I watch documentaries like a fiend! Most of my DVR memory space is devoted to them. I just finished watching an episode of Frozen Planet – absolutely amazing! I can’t believe some of the conditions those cameramen filmed in. And who the heck signed up to the do the underwater dives in the Antarctic?! That sounds utterly miserable!
I also recently watched two documentaries about Titanic.
peanutbutterfingers says
frozen planet is SO good.
Alisha says
It’s funny that you mentioned that show about the killer whales because we have turned it on like twice this weekend. It’s crazy because I really had no clue how they can be! It kind of made me sad when it showed them eating the seals.. 🙁
Katy @ HaveYouHurd says
One time my roommate and I watched a documentary on hogzilla and it pretty much said that wild hogs were taking over the world. It was awesome.
