The comments you guys write never fail to make me smile and laugh out loud.
Today I not only giggled my way through your comments on my morning post about loving the smell of your own pets, but I was amazed at how many of you not only love the smell of your pet’s feet, but think they smell like some kind of chips or salty snack… Doritos, Cheetos, Fritos, popcorn.
What!?
Naturally I had to research this phenomenon.
When I typed “My dog smells like…” into Google, “Fritos” was the second option that populated! (“Fish” was number one.)
The most straight-forward explanation of this condition that I found came from PetAdvisor.com and said, “Dogs sweat through their foot pads. Just as the people’s feet sweat — and more often than not have an odor — so do canine paws.” The article goes on to say that if your dog’s feet still smell like Fritos after a bath, check the ingredients in their dog food. Their food could be the culprit!
Frito feet. Who knew?
I want to thank you guys for always being wildly entertaining.
Dinner
Dinner tonight was just about as easy as it comes.
I filled my bowl with whole wheat pasta shells served on a bed of fresh spinach and topped with marinara sauce, shredded cheese and a sprinkle of parmesan.
Off to do some reading! For my fellow readers, we’ll be voting on the PBF Book Club book for the month of May tomorrow!

lol! I totally meant to comment on your earlier post… my husband & I always say our pug smells like Fritos! HAHA He especially smells like that when he’s been sleeping for a while. We call it “Frito city” when he’s really stinking or I lovingly call him my little corn chip! 🙂
Lindsay @ LindsayInNYC says
We have a pug too and he usually smells like fritos when he needs a bath. I read somewhere that it has to do with dried pee on their paws that smells like that… I’ll pass on smelling his feet, lord knows where they have been!
Melissa @ SquatsandSquash says
hahaha everytime i smell bad foot odor, I always think of FRITOS! Dogs definitely can smell like them, too! Not sure how I can still even think of eating fritos because of that, but i find a way.
im excited, im going to join this book club fun this month! love love love reading, and every book youve talked about is right up my alley!
Jenny says
This is a little off the subject of dog smells but I just saw a commercial for whipped cream flavored vodka and thought of you! This may be old news, but just thought I would pass it along. Glad to see you had so much fun on your cruise!!
peanutbutterfingers says
oh goodness. that sounds unreal!
Amber K says
It’s delicious! Especially mixed with orange juice (to make a creamsicle flavor) or root beer (root beer float).

Fritos!? lol I’ve never heard of that one before.
Anne @strawberryjampackedlife says
We were reading a book at the bookstore, and it mentioned that dog’s feet smelled like popcorn. We tested our dog, and they didn’t smell, but we could try again.

After you recommended the book Divergent, I decided to read it and I was quickly hooked! The second book in the trilogy came out 2 days ago, and I just finished reading it! It’s called Insurgent, and it was so so good. I’d love to see a book review about it if you ever get the chance! I love your book recommendations, keep em coming!
peanutbutterfingers says
i’ll definitely be reading it soon!

I’ve got a little dachshund and ever since she was a yittle puppy gog, I’ve called her my baby tostito because of her tostito toes. And my mother-in-law calls her Frito Chili Pie. I love their chippy feets 🙂
krystal@coffeecardiogoddess says
My vote is still for Insurgent to be the book club book. That’s too funny about the dog feet smelling like fritos. My doggies are on the stinky side I think haha.

Alyssa @ Science and Seitan says
Hey! I just stumbled upon your blog and I think it’s fantastic! I love that you are just as obsessed with your dog as I am with mine!
Is it weird that I smelled my dogs feet after I read this post? haha. No fritos here! That’s probably good news, because the smell of fritos reminds me of those chilli-cheese fritos, which smell EXACTLY like B.O. No kidding!
peanutbutterfingers says
so glad you found me! 🙂
Lea says
I had a cat whose fur smelled like fritos. It was kind of strange but comforting. He was an older cat when we got him though, so maybe that had something to do with it? I don’t know, but whenever I see someone eating fritos it makes me think of him.
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More says
Seems you have inspired many readers here to smell their dogs feet today. Too funny!
Emily says
So I read your post this morning, and thought you were crazy, except for the voice in the back of my head telling me that yes, I love how my pup smells too.. and then I read the comments and thought EVERYONE was crazy, feet smelling like tasty snacks? no… and as I sit here and read this post after a long, terribly stressful day at work, I am dying laughing, literally tears streaming down my face, and I lean over to my dog and give her little paddy-paws a sniff… out of sheer curiosity… and THEY SMELL LIKE FRITOS! I kid you not, I’m seriously blown away. Hahaha, soo, just too good
peanutbutterfingers says
it blew my mind, too!!
Lisa says
Haha that is hilarious. I never would have thought it came from the sweat off their feet. This reminds me that whenever I come across an interesting tidbit, I will google it and when someone looks at the browser history, they will be like who the heck googled that weird thing? What can I say, I like to know odd things
Becky @ TheBexFactor.com says
I love the Dorito feet smell for some reason, I think it’s so cute!

Frito feet! How funny. Actually, sometimes I feel like my fiancé’s feet smell like fritos too after he wears certain shoes (shhhh don’t tell him I said that)
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
That is hilarious! My family dog’s paws smell like that too! I always wondered why they smelled that way. I’m glad to know that he is not the only one who has frito paws! 🙂
Annie says
my husband refers to the smell as “corn chips” …which I guess Fritos falls under.
so a friend and her boyfriend adopted a vizsla yesterday….he is the tiniest little cutie-patootie i’ve ever seen. and his nails are really long! it’s crazy- they look like talons! did sadie have really long nails when you first got her?
peanutbutterfingers says
yes!! there may have been a (bloody) incident when we first tried to cut them. beware!!
Emily N says
I don’t know that I have ever smelled Teek’s paws, althought I might now because I am curious!
Hannah Bolinger says
When I read this post yesterday, I thought of my sweet Koda. She died almost a year and a half ago, it was very sudden. I was left quite confused about life, my daily routine totally changed. There were no early morning walks or super charged happy dinner times. One day, I found her favorite toy, under the couch. It was a rope, about a foot long, and she always hid it somewhere when we were done playing. She wanted to be sure she could find it when she wanted it, but no one else could. I picked it up and immediately smelled my girl. Happy memories flooded in and tears flooded out. I slept with it under my pillow for months after that day. I can’t smell her on it anymore, so I keep it on a shelf in my bedroom. I see it every night before bed and every morning I remember her sweet face. Now I pay close attention to the way my other animals smell, I treasure that scent, knowing what I have to lose.
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
That is hilarious!! I’m smelling my pup’s paws when I get home! hahaha

Lizzie says
Almost didn’t click on the post**
Lauren @ Part Time House Wife says
Haha! I’ve never been one to sniff the hooves of a pup but I did have a friend who claimed his black lab had fritto feet too! I just took his word for it! Apparently he wasn’t as crazy as I thought!
Dawn says
That is so hilarious about the dog feet thing. I have always told people that my dogs feet smells like corn chips! Now I know that I wasn’t losing my mind. You mentioned that you read that dogs feet sweat. I noticed that last week when I took my dog to the vet. I was holding the poor scared chihuahua and her feet were sweating – weird.
