Good morning to you,
We’re all in our places
With bright, shiny faces,
Good morning to you
Please tell me at least one of you has heard that classic children’s song before? My mom used to sing it to me and my sister when we were little and I was shocked when Ryan sang it to me one morning out of nowhere.
“You know that song!?”
We also both grew up singing the morning song that goes, “Wake up, wake up you sleepy head, get up, get up get out of bed.”
I guess it isn’t really a shocker that we have morning songs in this household since we have songs for rainy days. (I should sing the rainy day song today! It’s still raining like crazy in Ocala.) May our future children be blessed with the gift of a singing voice that actually sounds lovely so the future Fagans can sing without sounding like they’re dying.
Workout
The thunderstorms outside didn’t keep the people at our gym away. It was packed this morning!
I began my workout with 20 minutes on the elliptical before doing another LiveFit workout that targeted my back and biceps.
Since I’m not following the LiveFit program exactly (I’m not following the meal plan and am using the workouts simply as a guideline), I added some jump roping in the mix and my workout ended up looking like this:
(For video demonstrations of the above exercises, click here.)
Breakfast
Once we were back home, it was time for food.
I made myself a batch of pumpkin protein pancakes.
Topped with syrup for some sweetness!
And now it’s time to play catch up after the long holiday weekend. Hope your weekend was full of fun!
Question of the Morning
- Do you remember any silly songs from your childhood? Any favorites?
Meghan @ After the Ivy League says
My grandmother is the singer in the family, and whenever we visited with her, she was full of classic songs. Frere Jacques and Oh What a Beautiful Morning were her favorites 🙂
Karin says
My parents used to come into the bedroom my sister and I shared, singing – at the top of their lungs and off-key: ‘Oh, what a beautiful morning’. It was both horrendous and hilarious. Thanks for making me think of the memory, I’ll be smiling (and cringing) all day! LOL
Electra @ Vanilla Bean Lean says
My mom used to sing both of those songs to me! I LOVE it 😉
Jenny says
I love wake-up songs! The one that sticks in my head the most and I end up singing it forever and ever amen is “Rise and Shine”.
The first part of the song goes:
Rise and shine and give God the glory glory
Rise and shine and give God the glory glory
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I think that most children’s songs are silly! I actually have a “big girl” playlist now of morning songs. They really help to get me going in the morning, and they are a fun start to the day. 🙂
Linz @ Itz Linz says
how do you make that box that your workout is listed in? i can’t figure it out! (new blogger here! haha)

lol, my Mom used to sing this song about a Bum begging from door to door, probably because it had the words Hallelujah and Bum in it, and it was fun to sing as a kid. I do have a Laundry song that I made up to the tune of the Unicorn song, which somehow makes folding laundry more fun.
The laundry was done and all accross the bed,
There was…clean underwear and long sleeved shirts, some crumpled up tees and blah blah blah…lol….I won’t go into it all….but as sure as you’re born, there was no UNIFORM!!! hahaha
Carrie @ Lift Eat Repeat says
Come on get up get outta bed you gotta get up you sleepy head- I can hear my mom singing it now!
Julie says
So funny. I had never heard it before Saturday morning when my husband sang it to me but changed the lyrics a bit to something out dog would sing.
pluvk says
Haha! My hubs and I always sing silly good morning songs to each other… but we usually make them up! I didn’t have too many morning songs as a kid, but my parents (especially my dad) would sing me sleepy-time songs.
Jackie says
I noticed you use cottage cheese in many of your protein pancake recipes. I’ve tried so many times and just cannot get into cottage cheese. Would plain greek yogurt be a good substitute? I realize that the cheese is the protein source, and I definitely don’t want to skimp on that!
peanutbutterfingers says
yes, definitely!!
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
My mom used to sing that song! That’s cute that Ryan sang it to you too :).

The Ducks Like Rain song just made my day! I LOVE it!! And it also lead me to watch this video on Youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEBLt6Kd9EY&feature=fvwrel Pitiful, yet precious!

I am an elementary music teacher from Newfoundland but living and teaching in Labrador. I stumbled across your blog recently while doing a google search for “what to wear to Europe” and have been checking back frequently ever since.
Anyway, when I read this post I cracked up. I am a firm believer in teaching the playground oldies. I’m only 24 so my students often assume (or used to assume) that I’m going to teach them pop songs, but I insist on the camp/traditional/silly ones. They seem to have such a shelf life, even with kids today!
Recently I taught my grade four’s “There’s a Hole in My Bucket” (dear Liza, dear Liza) and when I go for a run/walk around my neighbourhood, I can hear the kids singing it. Even my older kids. This in addition to “Skip to My Lou”, which I thought ALL kids knew until I started teaching! Have you ever heard of the handclapping game “See See My Playmate”, or “Stella Ella Ola”? More oldies but goodies!

i’m so glad you found me, alana! thanks so much for commenting! and i remember every single song you mentioned!
K says
What training certification do you have?
Nicole says
Did you ever learn that song that’s like “McDonald’s, McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Pizza Hut!”? That song was really popular at our elementary (no clue why music class would teach us a song about fast food), but my husband has never heard of it.
Stephanie @My Freckled Life says
Wow… apparently I was a deprived child – my parents never sang wakeup songs to my sister and I!! The closest thing that they would do is when it was time for bed, they’d always say “It’s bedtime for Bonzos” – which was apparently a reference to a 1950s movie with Ronald Reagan and a chimpanzee. I have a weird family…
Lexie says
That good morning song used to be sung on a show called, Romper Room, way back in the 1950’s, yes I’m old enough to remember .
Lillian says
My grandmother was a grade school teacher in the 1920’s. They used to start every school day with the “Good morning to you” song at the beginning of your entry. The students would stand next to their desks and sing the first verse to her, then she would sing a second verse back to them. (What a contrast to classrooms now!) I can’t remember the words to the second verse. Do you know, by any chance?
