It’s days like today that make me feel grateful that I live a mere two hours from my parents’ house.
That means Father’s Day can be spent with my father!
(Apparently this is the weekend of the red necklace. Have you ever flip flopped on buying something because you weren’t sure you’d wear it enough only to find that you wear it all the time. Thank you, Target necklace.)
Our Father’s Day celebration began last night with a big dinner featuring the huge snapper that my dad got himself on a spearfishing trip last week.
My mom wasn’t sure exactly how the snapper would turn out since she was baking the whole fish, but it was prefect!
After dinner, we were all a little slap happy thanks to some margaritas and decided that dessert that we previously deemed “unnecessary” became very, very necessary.
Group trip to Coldstone Creamery!
My dad, Ryan and my sister’s boyfriend all got ice cream, but my mom, sister and I were all about ice cream cake and picked up a red velvet cake with cake batter ice cream from Coldstone to slice into once we got back home.
And yes, the guys had some, too. They’re animals.
We spent the rest of the night hanging out and watching Off Their Rockers. Have any of you guys seen this show? Betty White hosts the show where older people go around pranking younger people. It is hilarious and highly entertaining.
Breakfast
This morning Ryan, my dad and I were up before everyone else and dug into the giant batch of overnight oats that I prepped last night before bed.
After changing and rallying the troops, we headed off to a 9 a.m. church service.
Once the service was over, we drove to Skyway Jack’s for breakfast (or breakfast number two for some of us).
Since I already had breakfast, I was happy to see some sandwiches on the menu and opted for a ham steak sandwich on whole wheat bread.
I wanted something salty and this sandwich hit the spot!
There’s some ice cream cake leftover, so now we’re planning on breaking that out again and wrapping up our Father’s Day celebrations before Ryan, Sadie and I head back to Ocala.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
Great picture with your sister and dad – and you’re all color-coordinated with your red necklace, your dad’s red shirt, and your sister’s red earrings! Love that skirt you wore to church, too. Have a safe trip home!
That cake looks AMAZING.
that ice cream cake looks AMAZING
Great. Now I want ice cream cake! Good thing I have plans to go get some frozen yogurt tomorrow!
I had that exact cake for my b-day last year! We only JUST got coldstone around that time and I was very excited (oh the perils of living in Canada…)
Hey Julie! You’re father looks like an amazing man!! I actually just re-read your post about him on your wedding recap page–about how supportive he is of you and Ryan–and the way he’s been supportive and loving of your throughout your life. It made me cry. Unfortunately I have a really bad relationship with my dad. He’s never really been a part of my life as my parents divorced when I was 2 and he never took much interest in me. My mother on the other hand is my best friend and the most amazing woman I know. So I guess I lucked out in that way. Thank you for sharing the love you have for your dad. I really enjoyed reading it!
That cake is huge! I’ve never had ice cream cake, I’m not sure any one makes it here (I’ve actually never had red velvet either!)
That looks amazing! Especially the ice cream cake mmm
What a great post! That ice cream cake looks amazing! Love your outfit too! The skirt is so cute!
I’m often like that when I buy accessories. I feel iffy about them (I’m not good at picking out accessories!) but once I buy them, I wear them ALL the time!
Sounds like an awesome day!! That ice cream cake looks divine. Hope your dad had a great Father’s day with you all!
I bought the same necklace but in the teal color! I got it last Saturday and I think I’ve worn it 4x since, I love it!
Cute post..
Awesome cake!
Great pictures …all of them…you, dad and sis and you girls with your guys…nice looking family.
I’m jealous you were able to spend Father’s Day with your dad! I love living in Boston, but it’s tough on holiday’s like this when I wish I could just drive home and see my family!
Ice cream steak is a total win! And that necklace is adorable!
Jeeeepers, that cake does look pretty good. Looks like a fantastic weekend! There’s nothing quite like just spending time with family 🙂
Very lucky to be near family! I got to talk to my dad on the phone though, I miss him!
I LOVE that necklace. I do that all the time… buy something after much hesitation, and then end up loving it. What I hate is when the opposite happens! I still have a few clothes that have tags on them because I thought I’d wear them, but they look much nicer in the dressing room! Happy Father’s Day to your dad (and to Ryan… for Sadie). 🙂
I almost bought that necklace! I had a $3 off jewelry coupon and was going back and forth and decided against it. It is so cute though, I am little sad!
Also, my sister goes to UT and was actually pranked for the show! They never showed her on TV but an older man jumped out of an ambulance and ran after her!
YUM! I love things from Target!
Sounds like a great fathers day!
you and your sister look so much alike! Both gorgeous 🙂
That cake looks so good!
That cake looks delicious!
We don’t really celebrate Father’s or Mother’s Day in our house. We just go about our business. But then again, we’re not much for holiday spirit. We can all be a curmudgeon at times.
I did not need to know that red velvet/cake batter ice cream cake existed. I think I would body check people out of the way to get to that if it were in a room with me.
you have got to be the cutest! your sister too!
Ahhh I love Skyway Jack’s!! My family and I try to eat there every time we visit Florida. The chocolate chip and banana pancakes are bomb.
Looks like a great day with family! One of the hardest things about living away from family is definitely not being there for holidays and birthdays. Thankfully, I was still able to give my dad a call and wish him a Happy Father’s Day this afternoon. I think he understands. 🙂
WOW check out that cake…no wonder the boys couldn’t resist :)!
Oh Coldstone, you are so, so, so good!
my friend had to talk me into buying the earrings I’m wearing right now, but I seriously wear them every week. They go with almost all my clothes.
That cake looks really good. Unfortunately my dad has diabetes. Fortunately, I know how to make decent low sugar ice cream 🙂
Omg. That coldstone cake looks AMAZING.
Cake batter ice cream cake..ahhh! Heaven.
There is so much I love about this post!
I love your necklace! I noticed it on all your outfit pictures you posted and loved it. It looks good with everything.
And omg. That cake! It has everything I love. Red Velvet. Cake batter. Sprinkles. And are those Kit Kats on top? Looks heavenly.
