My brain is moving a mile a minute this morning (I blame coffee), so if this post is all over the place, you’ve been warned!
I got a kick out of reading your comments on my Gift Card Hoarder post last night. Apparently a lot of us carry tons of cards around with us every day. Perhaps that’s why we need such ginormous purses?
I also must confess that up until last month when I changed wallets (I got a new one from my family for my birthday), I had my UCF student ID in my wallet (I graduated from college in 2007) and my scuba diving certification ID.
Why?
Slightly amusing story about my scuba ID…
The year after I graduated from college, my friend Laurel planned a surprise night out for my birthday. Ryan told me he was taking me out to dinner and when we arrived at the restaurant, a bunch of my friends were there to surprise me which was so fun!
After dinner, the plan was to go to Howl at the Moon, a fun dueling pianos bar nearby. (We also went there in Chicago for my bachelorette party. So fun!)
When we got there, I realized that I didn’t have my driver’s license on me. I lost it the previous week and forgot to put the new one I got in the mail that day in my wallet.
The guy at the door needed proof that I was 21 and I had nothing. I then pulled out my scuba ID and said, “Will this work?”
Obviously not.
Now, whenever we’re about to go out, my friends frequently ask me whether or not I made sure to have my scuba ID on me because clearly it’s my identification card of choice.
Workout + Breakfast
Today’s workout began with 20 minutes on the elliptical before I hit the weights for some upper body strength training.
After driving home from the gym, it was time for some eggs!
Today’s breakfast was a repeat of yesterday’s breakfast, but without any onion stirred into the cheesy scrambled eggs because I didn’t have one pre-chopped and didn’t feel like crying my eyes out at I cut into another one this morning.
Time to get some work done!
I always forgot my ID so my friends hate going anywhere fun with me!
Is Howl at the Moon a chain? There’s one here in Baltimore!
yes! i didn’t know that either until we went to the one in chicago!
Must be because there is also one in KC!
I’ll confess that I have my college ID from ’07 and I’ve occasionally used it for a discount since the ID has no expiration date on it and I don’t look much different..unlike my grad school IDs that pretty much expired immediately after graduation.
Oh and speaking of IDs….I have an ID from 1992 called an “Ident-a-Kid” that my parents got me when I was little because they were afraid I might get lost or kidnapped. It has my 4 year old photo, stats, and birthdate on it, and my fingerprint on the back. One time at the bar, I had THAT ID and not my license, and I showed it to the bouncer….he BUSTED OUT LAUGHING. It was incredible. AND HE LET ME IN! ahahaha
hahaha! that is so awesome.
Oh my gosh…I totally had one of those. That is awesome!
Your breakfast looks so good!

I will totally admit that I always spend the extra money and buy pre-chopped onions because I cry like a baby when I try to cut them. I started doing that after Keith came home one night and found me in the kitchen wearing swim goggles while I chopped and onion. I swear he laughed so hard he cried…after that pre-cut onions were the only way to go in my house.
Love Howl at the Moon — there’s one in Indy that was one of my faves
I love that you tried to use your scuba id! Too funny! 🙂
I still have my college ID in my wallet! I graduated in 2010. Maybe it’s time for me to let go?
I just got rid if my college ID (I graduated in 2003!!!) my husband constantly asked why I carried it around. I used the excuse that I would let the kids play with it instead of my credit cards, but honestly I have no idea why I was hording it! Lol….at least I’m not alone 🙂
I still have my college ID in my wallet … and I graduated in 2005! Like Jenna, my husband always asks me why I carry it around. I really don’t know, but I just don’t want to give it up! It carries such memories! 😉
LOL that is hilarious about the scuba id!! If I’d been the security guard on the door I’d have let you in just for trying! I still have my student card from university in my wallet, and I graduated in 2010. I’m not sure why it’s still there.. although in our city, university student cards count as bus passes, so I suppose I if I ever needed to take the bus, I could try to use it (provided they don’t check the expiration date.) Happy Friday Julie! 🙂
I’ve always wondered if my law school ID would get me into a bar since the chances of someone being in law school and under 21 is pretty slim!
That’s the worst when you forget your license on a night out! He totally should’ve taken the scuba ID, no sense of humor I guess! I cry my eyes out whenever I chop onions too, it helps to stick your head in the freezer (weird but true). A trick I learned working at Subway in high school!
Julie,
1st i just want to say…I LOVE your blog!! You make me laugh nearly every single day!! 2nd…i found a cheat to chopping onions!! Frozen chopped onions!! I use them for everything now!! My crying days are OVER!!!
Have a great day!!
PERFECT!! thanks for the tip, tiffany! is the texture okay? that’s my only concern w/them.
Since I tend to mix them into things i dont notice the texture so much. I will also saute them by themselves. They can water things down a bit if cooked straight from frozen so you can let them thaw in a strainer or something and save them as needed. Give it a try and see what you think!!!
Upper body workout was on schedule for me too this morning 🙂
Your blog has become my favorite thing to check first thing in the morning, it inspires me to actually get out of bed and go run with my dachshund/labrador mix. For the longest time I still had my middle school ID in my wallet. I finally threw it out (almost 10 years after the fact!), but it’s probably about time for another wallet gift card purge!
aw, that mix sounds adorable! i’ve never seen a dachshund/lab mix! so cute!
She’s a strange looking girl for sure, she’s got a huge head and a loooong little body, but she’s just so much fun!
This reminds me, I need to clean out my wallet!
true story: I have tried to use several different IDs after forgetting my license at home in my OTHER wallet. since i went to school in a small town, this would actually work sometimes. 😉
I discovered your blog yesterday and I LOVE it! I can’t stop reading it. I am into health and fitness and I am a runner. I love your tips and recipes. I started a blog about a month ago and reading yours is very inspiring!
thank you amber!!! i’m so glad you found me!
Just wondering… do you eat anything before you go do your morning workouts? I find my muscles start burning pretty quickly if I try to do a workout before breakfast… do you have a quick snack or anything?
Haha that is a funny story 😉
Haha that reminds me of my friend who tries to use her imax pass to get into clubs. Its the funniest picture ever of her so the bouncers always just crack up, and she actually has been let in before. Its hilarious.
Julie! I’m new to your blog, but I absolutely love it!! You, Ryan, and Sadie seem like the most adorable little family!!! I can relate to your obsession with her because I’m a crazy dog lady and love my maltipoo Ozzie like he is my brother. He’s smaller than Sadie but he’s totally bf material haha 🙂 just wanted to say hey and that I adore your workouts and recipes!!!
P.s. I shamelessly cleaned my cousin’s family of peanut butter in two days…
woohooo for another dog and peanut butter lover!! 🙂 thanks so much for the comment, corey!
Hey Julie,
Just wanted to tell you I love your blog. 🙂 It’s super fun and light, but at the same time, has really good tips for exercising and eating (and really big and pretty pictures).
I’m getting married next year, so have been on a mission to get in shape. So love seeing what you’re up to. I’ve always done cardio, but am seriously pumping up the strength training. Thanks for being a total inspiration. Also, been making a ton of smoothies 🙂
Ugggh that’s the WORST feeling when you get to a bar & all of your friends are waiting for you and you realize you are ID-less. So shameful hahah! True story: when I was in university, a bar in the city actually let people in with library cards! Needless to say, they were shut down within a matter of weeks. It was fun while it lasted! 😉
Hey, you never told us if you made it into the bar or not!
Haha a scuba ID… I would have died if you had told us that using that actually worked! Another yummy breakfast as usual… I’m in an egg phase right now too! SO filling!
My friends and I used to get into bars at UGA with all sorts of IDs. Blockbuster cards. Kroger shopping cards. Frequent buyer cards. Oh the craziness of my college years. Haha!
1) We also went to Howl at the Moon in Chi-town for my bachelorette! I hear it’s pretty popular!
2) I lost my license right before a vacation to Florida. When my friends and I tried to get in a bar, I brought my high school ID and my birth certificate. They complained that I needed a government issued ID. I informed them that I went to public school!! They didn’t buy it though. BOO!!!
I keep my college ID in my wallet only because sometimes I use it to get the student discount when I shop! So there’s a perk of hoarding it 😉
Holy throwback batman..hello long hair! Haha 🙂 That b-day was so fun. Remember when we got the bill and they said we couldn’t split it so Merri was in charge of figuring everything out! Took like 30 minutes!
Do you have any tips for staying motivated during a workout? I am very active in general, but lately I will finish my cardio, stretch, and start weights, squats or some type of strength/core training but a few minutes in lose my motivation to keep going. But I know that those exercises are as (if not more) important as cardio! Ah!
yes! here ya gooo: https://www.pbfingers.com/2010/06/24/recharging-your-workout-routine/
I have never lost my ID, but sometimes when I go out to bars here in Boston people don’t believe my ID is me! I’ve gotten questioned so many times and have had to show them my debit card AND FSU student ID as an additional photo ID. I think I look just like my picture but I guess not to the people of Boston! 🙂
I am carder wherever I go. Just a few weeks ago I was carded for buying a lottery ticket. Geez. One time I had accidentally snapped my license in half. I tried to use it anyway because it still had all of my info on it, but no one would take it. That sucked.
That is a good story! haha Some of my guy friends went to Howl at the Moon when we were in Orlando and they said they had the best time. They came back really drunk and had spent $600 between the 4 of them. Apparently those duels are pretty profitable for the bar! ;p
My friend used his scuba iD for fun one night to get into bars and some places actually let him in!
That’s so funny! I’ve tried using my “Diver’s License” when I don’t have my “Driver’s License” too! I think it’s worked maybe once. It has my picture and birthdate! So lame.
So funny!! My husband finds it hilarious that I still carry my learners permit from when I was 15. (I am 39 years old) Just cant let it go. Never used it to go to a bar but I have used it for a second piece of ID 🙂
So funny! Don’t forget your scuba card! For the longest time I used to carry my high school IDs around in my wallet. We got new ones every year for cheerleading so we could get into games free. It had my picture on it so it worked as a regular ID too!
