Good morning from Jacksonville Beach!
Gosh, the Atlantic Ocean really is so beautiful.
A little after 6 p.m. yesterday, Ryan and I carpooled up to Jacksonville Beach with my sister to spend a weekend by the water.
When we started loading up the car, someone was determined not to get left behind.
Ryan has previously said that it’s Sadie’s mission in life “not to get left” and she only further proved this thought yesterday by hopping into the trunk as we were packing up.
Don’t worry, she got to tag along.
Sweet relief.
Dinner
After a two-hour drive, we made it to the beach and said hello to my sister’s boyfriend Ross who was already hard at work on dinner.
Kona, Ross’ sweet chocolate lab, was never far from the dinner prepping station. Sadie, on the other hand, checked in on the dinner prep, but had to be in the action and ran in and out of the house a million times to check on Ryan as he manned the grill.
While we all worked away on dinner, we started to get awfully hungry and my sister and I decided to break into the birthday cake Oreos as an “appetizer.”
Can you tell we were excited (and a little crazy looking)?
I didn’t have high expectations for the cookies since regular Oreos are pretty awesome, but the birthday cake Oreos were so, so good. I tried my best not to ruin my appetite!
Eventually dinner was served.
Ross cooked the fish perfectly and I went back for seconds. Though the fish looks like salmon, it was actually trout that he topped with olive oil, lemon, fresh garlic and salt. It was definitely the highlight of the meal!
I just finished breakfast as I typed up this blog post, so it’s time to get movin’! Plans for the day include beach, beach, beach!

Sounds like you are going to have a great day on the beach… use plenty of sunscreen!!! This morning I made one of the most delicious coffeefied smoothies I’ve ever tasted (which given the fact that I’ve only ever tasted two including this one, might not be saying much!!) I put a mix of milk and a little bit of water in the blender, then added some greek yogurt, whey protein powder, a little bit of cocoa powder, a packet of instant coffee, a banana and a few ice cubes. I also added a bit of peanut butter to the blender!!! I mixed everything together and the result was wonderful; I just had to share it with you. Also, I wanted to thank you for this blog and your consistency and dedication to it. Because of you and things I have read on here, I am not afraid to try new things even when I have no actual recipe (like this morning’s smoothie). I am more confident in experiementing with meals now and if I mess up it helps me do better next time I attempt to make something. So THANK YOU 🙂 Have a wonderful time on the beach today!

this comment was such a nice thing to read to kick off the weekend. thank you, lisa! and that smoothie sounds fantastic! i LOVE adding a packet of instant coffee to my smoothies. it totally amps up the flavor and, for whatever reason, makes me feel like my smoothie is a bit fancier. 🙂 enjoy your saturday!

Our dog Bella is a rescue so you can imagine the attachment feelings she has! Oh my gosh I think it was months before she actually trusted that when I left the house I was actually going to return!

Since Ryan is such a big Oreo fan, does he approve? Do they compare to Zaxby’s Birthday Cake Milkshake!?

My hubby and I didn’t like the birthday Oreos. :-/ I recently saw in dunkin donuts that they have an Oreo donut now..it’s like crumbled over a glazed donut I believe…I haven’t brought myself to buy it yet out of guilt lol. Have fun at the beach!! 🙂

I am not a huge fan of regular Oreos but oh my, the birthday cake version is out of this world good! Thankfully they come with less in the package than the regular flavor because I would be tempted to eat them all!!
Liz @ Iheartvegetables says
Hahaha woahhh birthday cake oreos?! That sounds kind of crazy awesome!

I’ve been dying to try them, but I’ve been trying to be so good with my snacks!
Have fun up here! It’s supposed to be a pretty decent, weather wise. If I didn’t have a BBQ to go to, you’d probably find me out at Jax Beach too!

So jealous of all your beach time! I actually live about one hour from the Pacific Ocean. Oh wait, there are road-less mountains in the the way. Make that three hours. Darn, beautiful mountains.
I was so excited when I saw the birthday cake Oreo’s not too long ago. I didn’t like them though. Don’t worry, they didn’t go to waste. My girls didn’t seem to mind eating them all up!
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
I haven’t tried the birthday cake Oreos, but I have tried the birthday cake Oreo ICE CREAM… amazing.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I’ve seen those, they look SO GOOD!!! Ahhhh Wish they were gluten free!

Have fun at the beach today!! I think I’m one of the only people that did not like oreos as a kid, I was such an outcast with this distaste;) The ocean looks beautiful as well! I live right by the pacific ocean which is a pretty view!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
I kind of need to find those oreos, like as soon as possible.
Have fun at the beach!
Bek @ Crave says
Haha, how embarrassing. Is it obvious how big of a sweet tooth I’ve got- I thought when you mentioned Kona the chocolate lab you were referring to a chocolate cooking place or chocolate store or something..not a chocolate labrador!

Ha, silly dog! My dog likes to sit in the suitcase as I pack it.

The bf and I are on a hunt for the Birthday cake Oreos…did you just buy them at a normal grocery store? I can’t find them in Cali anywhere! I may resort to paying $15 for some off Amazon… 🙂
