I skipped my morning workout today in favor of an extra 1.5 hours of sleep. Waking up at 6:30 a.m. when the sun is actually out sure does make getting out of bed a bit easier!
Iām hoping to take an hour break around lunchtime to sneak in a workout and think a Piloxing class may be on the agenda.
Breakfast
I wanted only one thing for breakfast this morning.
A cheesy egg sandwich!
Two fried eggs + Gouda cheese + Raspberry jelly
Happy girl!
Morning Computer Routine
As I sat down at my computer this morning, I realized I follow nearly the exact same morning computer routine day in and day out. I find the way people go about the mundane things in their lives oddly amusing, so feel free to play along and detail your morning computer routine in the comments section!
- Pandora: Pandora is always my first stop. I need some music to get me in the āwork zoneā and listening to my favorite Pandora stations pump me up and energize me. (I am seriously loving the Destinyās Child Pandora station lately. Bills, Bills, Bills!)
- Gmail: I give my inbox a quick once-over. I generally just delete spam emails and press releases that donāt relate to my blog upon first glance and will read any emails that look particularly pressing. I will also respond to any emails about freelance work at this time.
- Picasa: Time to upload and edit morning breakfast photos! I use Picasa (itās free!) for all of my photo editing and do this before I start my morning blog post. (I go into more detail about blog photography and photo editing in this post.)
- Windows Live Writer: The best blogging tool in the world! Time to write and publish my morning blog post! This is also when I catch up on blog comments I may have missed from the night before.
- Hootsuite + Google Reader: I use Hootsuite to manage my Twitter account and hop on over to the site to check Twitter after my blog post is published and chat with you fine people! Iāll also check Google Reader at this time and catch up on my favorite blogs.
- Microsoft Word: I usually sit down at my computer around 7 a.m., so by now itās usually right around 8:30 a.m. and time to work on freelance assignments!
Questions of the Morning
- What does your morning computer routine look like?
- What is the first website you visit?
Sara says
When I work from home, I always turn on my work computer first and check my email to see if there’s anything pressing I have to get to right away. If not, I jump back onto my personal computer while I eat breakfast and read blogs, or write my own posts!
Stephanie says
I am a teacher, so right now I dont really have a morning routine š I get up at 5:30 and workout, eat breakfast, then lounge around, and lounge some more.
Millie Snyder says
Ahhh! I love that you love Destiny’s Child. I am such a fan. In fact, you HAVE to try the No Scrubs by TLC pandora station… you’ll definitely get some Destiny’s Child in there. Also- I’ve been trying out this new music website that is similar to pandora. It’s called “Songza”. It’s pretty cool because you select a time of day, your mood, and what you’re doing, then tell them what kind of music you’re feeling and they’ll create a playlist based on that. AND there is a 90’s Girl Band playlist, i enjoyed that one yesterday!
As for my morning routine, it usually starts out with a quick Facbook log in, pandora/songza, pinterest for a little inspiration, then blogger!
Hillary says
I usually check Gmail and Facebook right away in the morning, before moving on to blogs and the news!
Brita says
I see that b-fast sammy on here all the time and I’ve still never tried it with jelly! I gotta remember it next time…
I looove this! Thanks for posting your routine – it’s really cool to see how PB Fingers is done š When I get up, I check the weather. Then to Facebook. Then to Gmail. Then I work work work for the morning. Pandora is usually always on as well – I love the Virginia Coalition, Glee, and Beyonce stations š My lunch break is where I give myself blogging time. Sometimes I’ll even write my own blog post after being inspired by all you other bloggers!
I’ve also been thinking about Windows Live Writer, but I have a Mac. Is there an equivalent to it for Macs out there??
Annette@FitnessPerks says
Love this! I do similar things-first email, 2nd post the blog post to twitter/FB, check blogs, go to work (I work from home).
YAY for yummy breakfast sandwiches!
Liz @ Southern Charm says
Love that you shared this!
My first stop is work email, but via phone when I wake up, and then my personal blog stuff before I head in to work.
Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola says
Your bagelwich is calling my name this morning– the melted cheese looks fab! And once I’m at my computer, my morning routine starts with browsing work email, blog gmail, emptying my google reader, then personal email and blog reading while going through my work emails and starting on projects!
Terri says
I generally make myself some breakfast and sit down at my computer to multi-task. I know, it’s bad. First, I pull up You Version to read my planned section of the Bible (I’m working the Chronological plan right now and it’s totally eye opening!
I then move over to FB and email and I reply to any urgent emails and delete spam and then get over to FB to converse a bit. However, I may skip FB and mail and go straight to SparkPeople to log my food and check out the informative articles they have posted for the day.
I then check Google Reader to see what blogs have been updated and what I’ve missed.
I enjoy my quiet time on my computer before the day gets started. It usually lasts about an hour and a half as well.
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
I’ve been meaning to use windows livewriter because I always hear about its awesomeness~but never quite understood how to use it! doh, haha.
Tricia says
I’ve been an avid blog reader for…. a really really long time hahaha. But I’ve only recently started my own blog. I figured might as well since I can usually spend hours reading other people’s blogs!!! Thanks for this post.. reading your blog has been helping me figure out what some of my goals and whatnot are. Have a nice day! š
I always check fb first… hehe.
Stephanie says
I always check email first- work email or gmail, the order varies. Then it’s usually Facebook to check for any updates, then finally I check nytimes.com to try and educate myself while I eat breakfast before starting off my day. š And if I have time in the AM I also check pbfingers in case I missed any posts from the day before!
Alysha @Shesontherun says
I always check facebook and my email š My routine depends on the day. Sometimes I like to blog before work if I have the time.
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
I love how your sleeping in 1.5 hours is still about 1.5 hours earlier than I got up today (and that was early for me!) Morning person, I ain’t. Clearly.
My computer routine:
email: my hotmail account, my 2 gmails…yea, I like email.
wordpress: check my blog for anything missed the night before and prepare to write that morning’s post.
Picasa and photoshop – prettying up the pics
facebook and google reader – for entirely too long.

Martha Lilian says
I love reading people’s routines! For the longest time, I didn’t listen to music at work (why, I have NO idea) but now Pandora is a must-have. All. Day. Long.
I’m also a huge fan of RockMelt as a browser – I can Facebook chat and it keeps a running tab of new stories from my favorite sites, Facebook and Twitter updates and has a built-in read me later function.
Eventually I get around to doing actual work. š
Julie says
I love reading about what people do every day! It provide such insight. š Question: Does Sadie usually chill while you work, or does she try to get you to play, or is it different every day? My cat changes his routine every day.
Since I’m a teacher, I don’t have a computer routine during the year, and summer days are almost never the same. Lately, it’s been eat, play with the cat, clean up around the house, and tackle my to do lists. I have to say, your morning routine sounds quite lovely and makes working from home very tempting!
Kimberly says
I definitely have a computer routine before I can actually begin my workday. After I get to work and get my coffee I sit down and check my gmail, Facebook and glance over Pinterest while drinking my coffee before I begin any actual work. Gets me in the groove of the workday. š
Katie says
Turn on computer, change shoes and put lunch in fridge, work e-mail, gmail, FB or blogs.
erica says

I just have to say that I love your egg + cheese + jelly bagels, I could eat one every day and never get tired of them, love it!
Now I’m off to look into Windows Live Writer…

Ahh it’s so fun to see what other people do in the mornings! Mine is normally something like:
1. Try to wake up at 5:45 to work out.
2. Hit snooze.
3. Get yelled at by boyfriend for setting my alarm to go off a billion times and never actually getting out of bed.
4. Sleep until 7:00.
5. Take out/feed puppy.
6. Shower.
7. Go to work.
Erin @ erinberries says
My morning routine is:
1. Wake up
2. Sneak to bathroom without waking up dog
3. Do hair & make up, brush teeth
4. Make protein shake
5. Get dressed
6. Check personal g-mail, twitter, and facebook
7. Check work e-mail
8. 45 minutes of free time to look at Bloglovin’ before I start the real day! ….sometimes I go longer. š
Erika says
My morning computer routine starts at work. I log in, open my work email, then Google ā I have two google accounts, one for my job and the other is my personal. I just started a new position July 1 so I am busy, busy, busy. I do all of this while sippin’ on a smoothie or an iced coffee. š
Bek @ Crave says
I’ve got numerous routines I go through day-to-day also, sometimes they change but generally they are the same haha. How long does your computer routine take you? I bet it just chomps away at your time haha.
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
Facebook is always the first thing I open when I get on the computer. I usually go Facebook, Twitter, blog stats/comments, Yahoo, Gmail. I save my e-mail for last because I always hope I’m going to get something interesting, and waiting builds the anticipation. Haha the excitement I get out of the little things!
