Temperatures today are stuck in the mid-80s which is quite a nice little breather from the excessive heat for the Okie Dokies.
When Ryan and I moved to Ocala from Orlando last year we tossed around different names for our fellow Ocala folks. Though “Ocalan” is probably correct, we decided that was way too lame and brainstormed a few different names like “Ocalites” before finally settling on Okie Dokies. Do you guys have a random nickname for yourselves and those who live in your city or town? We can’t be the only ones who do this…
When I lived in Palatine, Illinois as a kid, we were “Palatinians” which always sounded so goofy to me.
Anyway, with the somewhat cooler temperatures outside, we figured a short hike with Sadie would be bearable and took her to the nearby trails for a three-mile trek through the forest.
Sadie is always the best part of any Fagan family picture. She’s ridiculous.
Apparently it was deer day in the woods because we saw three different small herds of deer on our hike.
Once we arrived back home and took a much-needed shower, it was time for lunch.
Lunch
I cooked up a batch of my lean meatballs, but made them a little bigger than usual so they would be perfect for meatball subs.
I used all the marinara sauce we had on hand last night when I made Elaine’s eggplant rollatini so unfortunately I didn’t have any sauce for on my sub. At least it was still tasty topped with parmesan cheese!
Time to start getting ready for Taste of the Nation this evening! Orlando, here we come!
P.S. I will definitely record Ryan doing his box jumps for you guys soon. Your comments on my morning post made me laugh!
I hope you realize how bitchy you sound when you call them “Okie dokies”
I’m an Okie Dokie, too! I said we were brainstorming names for our fellow Ocala folks (since we are now Ocala folks, too!) and truly apologize if it sounded bitchy in any way. It was just meant to be a silly nickname.
Umm wow?? Anyway, you are funny. I love that you give yourself and the people in your town a nickname. Oh and yes I want to see a video of that box jump. That was incredible! Have fun tonight!
Thanks so much!! 🙂
I haven’t made up any random names, but Austin is known for being “weird” so there are tons of tie-dye T-Shirts and bumper stickers worn by most of the city with our motto “Keep Austin Weird”. I love it!
now i have a craving for a big meatball sub!!
also, sadie is hilarious. i love all the pictures you post of her!! 🙂
Haha I love how you guys hold Sadie like that!! It’s too cute!
Hahahaha I love that you call them Okie Dokies… that’s hilarious! I’ve actually never thought about this before. I live in Cranston, so I think I like “Cranstonians,” maybe?
I have recently discovered Chicken Meatballs at Trader Joe’s. Do you have Trader Joe’s there? I use in them in everything! Meatball sandwich, sliced up on a pizza, mixed with scrambled egg whites, chopped up in a salad, mixed with brown rice and seemed veggies, and on and on and on……..
🙂
Sadie is totally getting you guys ready for future babies!
You lived in Palatine? I live in Arlington Heights. 🙂 in fact, we’re going to Palatine Fest tonight to see a band play. 🙂 small world!
No way! I went to Fremd High School. 🙂 Have fun tonight, Michelle!
I teach at Stevenson High School! 🙂 enjoy your weekend!
Awwww I remember loving Stevenson’s pool during diving meets! 🙂
Okie Dokies – thats too funny. I’ve always wondered what people from Lousiana were called. Being from Virginia, I’m a virginian, so i thought they would be Lousian-ian – pronounced – Lou-E-Z-ANA-Inian. Its just fun to say too !
I had a PB Fingers inspired breakfast sandwich this AM before my 5k! The jelly makes it a bit sweet and amazing!!
I didn’t realize there are deer in FL! I saw a bunch while in CO! Have fun tonight!!
Okie Dokies? Haha, love that! We don’t do that too much where we live… we do call people by their school mascot, though. My neighborhood school was the WARRIORS! 🙂
Sadie is too funny! If we picked up my dog for pictures, he’d put on his pathetic, poor-me face. He HATES to be picked up… he’s such a little spoiled brat (I say that out of love)!
Hey, you’re from just down the street! I live in Addison, Illinois.
I live in Michigan– all sorts of strange nicknames around here. Not quite the same as city, but most who are not from around here (I live near Detroit) find it interesting:
The state has an upper & lower peninsula. We call the upper peninsula the “U.P.” So we call it the “U.P.” & we call people that live up there “Yoopers” (aka U.P.-ers).
People that live up there don’t appreciate the nickname, and so anyone that lives below the Mackinack bridge that connects the peninsulas gets called a “troll”.
I don’t think “Okie Dokies” sounds b*tchy at all, btw! It made me giggle, I thought it was cute.
We call ourselves “Grand Forkians” from Grand Forks, North Dakota!
I took us a very long time to come up with that name! We even called the Mayor and Greater Grand Forks Visitors Center to make sure there wasn’t another name!
I agree with Kait!! I think that the nickname Okie Dokies is adorable and not at all b!tchy! (And the name Yoopers is adorable too!)
I’m from the province of Ontario, and when we were younger my brothers and I called ourselves “Ontario-ians” when we were travelling out of province. It’s not as adorable, but trying to pronounce all those vowels in a row is always a fun time! 🙂
Julie, where is your workout tank from? I am always in the market for tanks that are longer and sit further down on my torso.
me too! i have such a long torso and love longer workout tops. it’s from casall and you can see the details here: https://www.pbfingers.com/2012/06/19/sleep-in-walk/
Fun fact: I was in Ocala a few weeks ago and my friends and I decided to check out Urban Cowboy. We coined the name “Okie Folks” for all the Ocala peeps.
I’m from a city called Alpharetta and we call ourselves Apharidians but recently they split the city and now the part I live in is called Milton. So not exactly sure what we call ourselves yet. Anyways hope you have fun tonight and come home with a nice “food baby”!
I live in Marietta! We are neighbors 🙂
I live in pretty much two cities: Kitchener-Waterloo. Sooo, we call ourselves KWers. . . But it domes out sounding Kdubbers. . . I have caught myself telling patients I am from Kdub. Not very professional for a med student.
Love your site, you rock.
I live in Huntsville, Al which everyone calls Huntsvegas. So I always call myself a Huntsvegian. Its a mouthful but it makes me laugh. 🙂
Because of you, I kinda want to get a Vizsla pup when I’m older and able to get a pet (my parents aren’t really animal people..). I love how hyper Sadie is and I’m just hoping that most Vizslas are like that.
I swear, I freaked out during a run yesterday and almost screamed “SADIE!!” when I saw a lady walking her Vizsla yesterday. It looked just as sweet as Sadie! 🙂
I live in Seattle, WA and don’t really have a name for people who live here right now. Fun fact, though. I’m Filipino, and we always nickname ourselves as Pinoys. So, Filipinos = Pinoys. 😉
All of my fiance’s family is from Buffalo NY and i have always referred to them as Buffalovians 🙂
Does Sadie chase after the deer, or do you keep her on a leash?
I am originally from Delmar, NY and we get called the Delmartians!
Crazy box jumps!!
I went hiking yesterday, too! The weather here in Georgia was so perfect, and I explored a new hiking trail around a lake. It was so much fun! I love workouts that don’t feel like workouts! 😉
Omg I want a dog just like that.
I need to start going hiking …it looks so much fun!
We living in Bloomington, IL, right next to Normal, IL, and … we call ourselves BloNo’s. Not the most flattering.
I’m from a small town called Perry, and out-of-towners call us Perry-sites (pronounced like parasites).
Those who live there call it Perry-dise 🙂
Hello from Australia!
I am from a town called Bendigo, and we call ourselves “Bendigonians” 🙂
I have several names that I think are funny. I lived in Putnam County, FL for most of my life (if I were still there, we would be county neighbors!) and we came up with the following:
If you are from Palatka, you are a Palatackan.
If you are from Bardin, you are a Bardinite.
If you are from Bostwick, you are a Bostwickian.
I am from Crescent City, but I never gave much thought to what that would make me – until today! So, I think that being that I am from Crescent City, I am therefore a Crescent Civilian. Who knows, maybe it’ll catch on?
I live in Aurora, Colorado…so I guess that makes me an Auroran 🙂 thanks to my boyfriend for that one haha!!
