It’s amazing what beautiful weather seems to do to people’s spirits. Today was an absolutely gorgeous day in Ocala. As we headed to church after breakfast this morning, there was a slight chill in the air that I sure hopes sticks around for a while. I spotted lightweight scarves and boots at church this morning!
After church, Ryan and I swung by Starbucks and I ordered a cappuccino with no fear of the hot beverage causing me to overheat and sweat the moment I walked outside. It was glorious!
Following our quick coffee break, we headed to Gander Mountain because Ryan needed to stock up on food and fuel for his mini stove for an upcoming hiking trip he’s taking on the Appalachian Trail with a few of his friends.
I told Ryan Gander Mountain is like his version of my TJMaxx. It’s a place full of random treasures and if you keep digging you’ll find something fabulous or something completely ridiculous. A trip there is always amusing.
I laughed out loud when I stumbled upon sporks in size extra medium.
Is that even a size!?
The whole “extra medium” thing made me laugh because Ryan always tells people he’s a size extra medium whenever he’s asked (at races, etc.) because the reactions he receives are always quite humorous. Apparently is is a legitimate size in sporkland.
On our way home from Gander Mountain, we made two pit stops.
First, we swung by a local art fair and wandered around eating kettle corn as we looked at the paintings, photographs, sculptures and pottery.
The award for best vendor name?
Ten points for Gryffindor!
After the art fair and a quick trip to the grocery store, we made it home
Lunch came in the form of a smoothie because I was too lazy to assemble anything that took longer than three minutes.
I made myself a pumpkin smoothie that included:
- 1 1/2 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup pumpkin
- 1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
- 1 scoop GNC 100 % whey vanilla cream protein powder
- A few shakes of pumpkin pie spice
- 1 spoonful almond butter
- Enough milk to get everything moving
Then it was time for a walk with Sadie! Since we were out and about all morning, we knew Sadie needed some quality exercise, so we took her to the nearby hiking trails for a three-mile walk.
We just arrived home in time for a crock pot dinner!
I have some autumn crafting and Hocus Pocus-watching on the agenda for this evening as well. I bought three fun fabrics at Hobby Lobby yesterday and will report back with the finished product tomorrow!
Enjoy the rest of your night!
I also am settling in to Hocus Pocus and then off to a chili cooking contest! It’s been brewing for lots of hours! Have a great night 🙂
Oh man, I can’t handle hearing about nice fall weather…we are prepping for the hurricane here in NYC! Although, being stuck inside for a day or two DOES have advantages. I see a pizza party in my new future…
Sounds like an awesome day! Love “The Hairy Potter”-that’s too funny! As a hiker, I’m super excited that Ryan’s getting to take a trip on AT. Would love to hear a recap about it!
We just got a puppy…and while things are much better than week one (http://happyhoyt.blogspot.com/2012/10/crazy-louie.html) I still can’t imagine a day like you just had. How old is Sadie? Does she just roam the house while you are gone? Since Louie isn’t potty trained yet, we have to crate him while we are gone and I feel so bad leaving for long periods of time. It’s funny, when I first started reading your blog, I didn’t have a dog, so I totally didn’t get all the Sadie stuff. Now I eat it up. Dogs really do change your life!
sadie is four and she just roams when we’re not there. 🙂 and sleeps. and takes every toy out of her toy bin. so excited for you and your new puppy!!
Thanks! I have definitely fallen in love. I talk about him all the time and have TONS of questions for all my dog owning friends. I know I am getting on their nerves! 🙂
Dogs really do change your life. My dog (and best friend) of fifteen years passed away on Thursday and it has caused tremendous heartache. It’s impossible to understand just how much impact animals have on our lives until we become pet owners, and I wouldn’t trade that experience for the world. At least I can rest assured that our dog never knew anything but love, and we gave her everything we could.
Congratulations on your new family member. He’ll love you endlessly, and you will absolutely get out of the experience what you put into it, tenfold. 😀
So sorry to hear about your loss Sharan.
Thanks so much! So sorry about your dog…I can’t imagine.
The winter wollies are well and truly out in Ireland! It’s positively freezing! They had snow in England over the past week! Send us some of your heat to swap!
That sounds like a perfect Sunday to me!
I keep seeing people talk about hocus pocus and now I NEED to watch it! I haven’t seen sporks since like the 4th grade… too funny! Enjoy crafting 🙂
anxious to see your craft project!
Hahahaha the Hairy Potter! That is so awesome!
Nice fall weather and you get to wear shorts?! Nice! Fall weather in the North East means boots and a light coat…
Oooh a pumpkin smoothie…..that sounds awesome! I might try that out this week!
Oh how fun! I can’t wait to see what your craft projects are!
Since we’re in the middle of a hurricane over here….I’m not feeling too happy for you right now 🙂
Pumpkin smoothie sounds delicious!
A pumpkin smoothie with no actual pumpkin in it?!
i’m an idiot and totally forgot it in my ingredients list! just updated the post WITH the pumpkin. oops!
Love the fabric! Can’t wait to see what it’s for! 🙂
Can’t wait to see what you make with the fabric!
One of my friends always calls really big things “medium sized large” and I never understood it haha I also love walking around fairs with a bag of kettle corn – the smell is too incredible to pass up!
Oh, I love Gander Mountain. Camo mecca.
“Marge” That’s how a friend recently responded when I asked for his t-shirt size. Marge. I guess that’s another word for Extra Medium. 🙂
It’s a hocus pocus watching night at our place too! Sistaaaaahs!
Looks like a perfect Sunday afternoon! TJ Maxx is seriously a treasure trove, I never leave there empty handed. And I just watched Hocus Pocus a few days ago, such a classic Halloween favorite!!
Freshly-made kettle corn is theeee best! I can never stop eating it!
i agree!!! i have to buy it whenever i see it somewhere!
Jealous of your gorgeous weather! My fear when ordering a cappuccino lately has been that it won’t be able to warm me up – it’s been snowing all day up here!
Hahaha I’m going to start using the “extra medium” phrase to see how many weird looks I get lol Love it! And I watched Hocus Pocus tonight too. Never quite feels like Halloween until you’ve watched that movie. 🙂
My fiancee keeps talking about spending some time on the Appalachian Trail. I’m just curious – is he thru hiking the entire trail or doing a segment? Has he done any of the trail before? My fiancee wants to do the entire trail at once, but I’m not too sure that’s practical =)
he’s just doing a segment for a few days. he’s done a little piece before and, like your husband, would love to do the whole thing at one time in the future! it sounds really cool but i love camping and hiking… separately. hiking with all that stuff on my back to camp does not sound half as appealing. ryan’s backpack is so heavy!
I agree! Andrew’s pack weights about the same as I do and might be almost as tall! I’m all for the hiking, but I like to return home and shower! Good luck to Ryan on his hike =)
Love the shorts! Neon makes me smile 🙂
Can’t wait to see what you have been working on!
You’re so lucky that the weather is still warm enough to wear shorts!!! The UK is so cold that my summer clothes are well and truly stored away until next year!
Your smoothie sounds wonderful!
I cannot stop laughing at the ‘extra medium’ sporks…that is brilliant. Also….slightly jealous that it’s still shorts weather for you, it’s been snowing over here!!
I love that Ryan tells peaople he’s an extra medium – too funny! I didn’t even know sporks came in sizes…
Can’t wait to see what you were crafting, I love seeing what other people come up with!
Ohhhh mentioning Hocus Pocus has me totally down for watching that tonight if I have time. Love that movie so much! My mom took my sister and me to see it when it was in theaters and we had a blast.
I didn’t think sporks came in sizes, let alone an “extra-medium”. Too funny!
I know what you are making 🙂 I spy on you on pinterest!
hehehe hairy potter! I do wonder if he’s hairy…? lol
And I think extra medium does exist! My husband is usually between a medium and a large for his shirts! And now I’ll officially call it xtra medium. And it IS nice to see more people wearing warm clothing! Makes everything feel nice and cozy.
I love your scarf where is it from?
Awww this post made me smile!!! Ten points for Gryffindor! I love your scarf- the yellow and black look so cute together especially with your cognac purse. Can’t wait to see what you do with those fabrics- I love them! Each of the patterns is really cute on it’s own but I also think they look great together!
I DVR’d Hocus Pocus and watched it tonight. One of the few Halloween movies I can watch because I’m such a scaredy-cat. 🙂
My husband ALWAYS says “extra medium” about everything. So funny, I didn’t realize that was a “thing”, I thought he had just made it up!
