Aaand just like that, I’m back after an all-day training yesterday.
Once I arrived home in the early evening, I spent a few hours crafting away. (I’ll be sure to share the project with you guys soon!)
(Yes, that plate was leftover from last year’s Friendsgiving party.)
I know it may sound a little bizarre, but jamming out to my favorite Pandora stations and working on a craft project totally relaxes me. If the project is really difficult, then I can spiral into a world of frustration, but, for the most part, I really enjoy getting crafty.
Of course, many of my craft projects end up looking like this…

But at least I have fun working on them!
Breakfast
The highlight of my morning meal was Italian sausage.
After I sautéed onion and spinach in a pan with olive oil, I added sausage and eggs to the pan. Once the eggs were scrambled, I transferred the eggs and sausage to a bowl and served it with a toasted English muffin on the side.
This was quite a filling breakfast and I have a feeling it will easily hold me over until it’s time to eat my morning snack.
Off to work!
Question of the Morning
- What is one hobby you enjoy that relaxes you?
Lauren says
Crafting only relaxes me if I can do it without ripping my hair out. 😛 The best all-time relaxation for me is baking and eating half of the dough!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
That is awesome that crafting relaxes you….it mostly just irritates me unless I am told exactly what to do. Hah!
Emily says
The outdoors, leisure walking and cooking! The latter especially in the winter 🙂
Chelsea @ BigBitesLittleBudget says
Hiking and being outside relaxes me. Even if it is just taking a good book with me to the closest park, I always feel like it perks up my mood and helps me unwind after a busy day.
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen says
Doing chores is actually relaxing to me. Whether it’s unloading the dishwasher or vacuuming, I find it soothing! Strange but true 🙂
Jenn says
Same for me!
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom says
Running relaxes me, but so does watching mindless television. Really bad TV makes me feel so much better about my life and my situation!
Caitie @ twentytwofit says
A good book + coffee + a fireplace is the ULTIMATE relaxation for me 🙂 especially if it’s raining…which is often in Seattle
meredith says
I love to paint as stress relief, as well as bake and lately it seems cleaning out closets is working too!
Katie says
Scrapbooking…I could do it for hours and typically end up losing track of time. Especially with coffee in hand and jamming to Pandora.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I agree, I love crafting. I also do other “artistic” things to calm down like draw (with crayons, of course), or I have an “inspiration” wall where I just tape up things I find in magazines. They’re usually just pretty pictures, colors or quotes that catch my eye.
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy says
I love crafting. I also love music. Playing the piano really relaxes me as well as just jamming to music from my ipod.
Rebecca says
Painting my nails is my perfect distraction. It gives me something to focus on without requiring too much attention to detail haha.
Kelly says
For whatever reason, cleaning and organizing really helps de-stress me. My family and coworkers love it! haha
cait @PieceOfCait says
LOLed at that “nailed it” picture. I love doing crafts : )

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get
four e-mails with the same comment. Is there any way
you can remove me from that service? Cheers!
Taylor @ Single-tracked Mind says
Crafting kind of stresses me out. I used to make everyone crafts for Christmas when I was little, but now I’d rather read a book or magazine to relax. 🙂
Anna @ Fitness à la Anna says
I actually love crafting too! I used to love making jewelery…I should definitely bust out my craft box this weekend! Nothing like a good crafty session 😉

Baking!
Julia @ Basket of Juls says
I totally feel you on getting crafty with some pandora (Ingrid Michelson or Fleet Foxes) for relaxation! I love filling notebooks with collages I make from old catalog/magazine/newspaper clippings. It’s soothing and you feel accomplished afterwards!
James says
I also definitely want to try incorporating some of that sausage into breakfast. I’ve been in a plain egg white rut this week.
Kelly says
Crafting relaxes me too! And just doing stuff, like cleaning or organizing. If I’m stressed, you can bet my laundry is being washed and the kitchen was mopped! I’ve been on a smoothie kick all week 🙂
Lisa says
I just love cooking. When I can spend 3-4 hours preparing dinner for the rest of my family, I’m totally relaxed. This is limited to the weekends so during the week a good book is the solution.
Lauren says
While it’s not really a hobby lately I’ve been going on so many walks and it’s the most relaxing thing in the world. I could say “cooking” or “baking” but the truth is even with those things, I always work so fast and it’s not actually relaxing. Walks are the only thing that really slow me down. I do find it relaxing to cook a big dinner with a group of people, though. That’s always wonderful!
Nikki @ Grab Your Kicks says
For anyone who watches Friends, the Relaxi Taxi! When I get stressed or just need to relax, I love to color! I did it a lot in college during finals.
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food says
Reading really relaxes me. I also play piano when I just want to focus on music, but usually I just spend the last hour of my day reading quietly in bed before going to sleep.
Maria@TheBrooklynFig says
Hmm good question. It changes with each season! But right now it would be working out (I know, crazy!) and blogging. 🙂
Kati says
That Pinterest fail made made laugh! I’m completely with you on the crafting/music combo! Sometimes cooking music works too 🙂
Paulina says
I love this! I am such a kid at heart. I absolutely love coloring, anything with glitter/glitter glue and I also love friendship bracelets. There are some crazy patterns you can do now compared to when I first learned how!
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
I always crack up at the “nailed it” photos from Pinterest. I can’t wait to see what you are working on 🙂
Micaela says
Hi Julie,
I was wondering what kind of sausage you typically include in your breakfast scrambles?
Paige@FitNotFad says
Reading! Reading is by far my favorite hobby. A good book is always the best 🙂
Miriam says
I like crafting. And really it’s the first time I am -and will?!- ever admit it ! 😉 Sometimes, I remind myself of my mother -not that it’s a bad thoughts!- but makes me really feel like i’ve grown up -not that I care much-! However, I like crafting mainly bacause it makes me feel proud and commited AND because I know that someone -or a lot of people- are going to enjoy it, that I -maybe- will make them smile, been happy. And because of that, I enjoy crafting. 🙂
Kelli says
Even though I’m blogging about the day, I have to say that all the creativeness that goes into creating a blog post totally takes my mind elsewhere and completely relaxes me! It’s new to me so I’m still super excited about it 🙂
sarah says
i find putting together a jigsaw puzzle is so relaxing.
Carrie @ Season It Already! says
Reading! I never understood how people find gardening or crafts to be relaxing. For me: STRESSFUL! 😉

I took up quilting 3yrs ago and my stress level is now non existent. The piecing and amd sewing just mellows me out and it is one of the few crafts that does not interest my pets so i can work in peace.
