After reading that blog post title, how many of you are singing “My Girl” by The Temptations? (And yes, I did link to the basketball scene from Father of the Bride with that song in it instead of a Temptations video. Father of the Bride is basically the best movie ever and I will link to it every chance I get.)
Moving right along…
Florida’s nickname, the Sunshine State, is well deserved. It is almost always sunny. Even when it rains, thunderstorms seem to be fleeting and the bright sunshine typically returns in no time at all.
The funny thing is that when it’s not sunny, people cannot help but comment and commiserate over the dreary weather. I’ve heard at least four people talk about the lack of sunshine today!
I grew up in a northwest suburb of Chicago, so I am very used to overcast days and am usually not too fazed by the lack of sunshine, but sometimes I catch myself falling into the dreaded cloudy weather funk. Today is one of those days, so I figured I’d combat the dreary weather we’ve having in central Florida by sharing a few things that brought a little sunshine into my day:
- BodyPump
I am flying to Pennsylvania at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning out of the Jacksonville airport with my family, so I drove in town today and made sure to arrive just in time to take an early afternoon BodyPump class. I am still trying to coerce my gym into bringing the class to Ocala, but until then, I will relish the times I am able to take the class when I am out of town.
- Single Leg Knee Drives
In addition to BodyPump, I completed a short 15-minute cardio circuit workout that I tore out of SHAPE Magazine. It introduced single-leg knee drives to me and the exercise quickly fell into the “things I love to hate” category. They kicked my butt in the best kind of way! You’ll definitely see them pop up in some of my future circuit workouts!
- White Chocolate Chex Mix from The Fresh Market
We don’t have any fancy schmancy grocery stores like Whole Foods or The Fresh Market in Ocala, so I get a little too excited to pop in and explore when I find myself close to one again. The Fresh Market bulk foods section is my favorite! I cannot seem to resist buying a bag of the white chocolate Chex mix every single time I visit and I picked up a bag after BodyPump today. It’s so darn delicious!
- Hot Apple Cider
After trying a sample of the hot apple cider on sale at The Fresh Market, I had to buy some. I immediately poured myself a cup to enjoy when I sat down to blog this afternoon. It tastes like autumn in a cup!
- Sadie
Did you guys know I love my dog? To quote Phoebe Buffay, this is brand new information! Okay, okay, I know my love for Sadie is blatantly obvious to anyone who reads PBF regularly, but she really does bring me so much joy. Today, as I was leaving, I gave Sadie lots of goodbye kisses and when I turned back to look at her sweet face one last time, she was laying on the couch, spread eagle. She cracks me up. What a classy little lady. (Oh! Good news! We heard from the vet and the lump we had examined last week is “not concerning.” Woop!)
Let’s keep the good feelings going! Tell me…
- What is one thing that is bringing a little sunshine into your day?
Have a great time in PA. You aren’t far from me! However, I hope you can get around Gettysburg since not a lot is open because of the government shutdown.
I was happy to go back to pump tonight after 2 weeks and not be totally behind the ball! I give you props for being able to pop into classes and pick right back up- even if I’ve been away from it while maintaining other exercise, it’s tough to come back strong!
I love this post title. My dad used to sing that song to me and my sister, changing the lyrics to “My Girls”, so for the longest time I thought it actually was plural in the song! And Father of the Bride is easily one of my favorite movies. Love it.
So glad that Sadie is alright!
You inspired me to try a Body Pump class while I was traveling for work 2 weeks ago. It was so much fun I took it twice! We don’t have that class at my gym in Chicago – I really enjoy trying new things when I am out of town.
Oh, I love The Temptations! I had a 6-9 class tonight and we had to make paper airplanes and fly them! This brought back so many memories of my childhood, I absolutely loved it 🙂
I just did a similar post because today was just one of those days when little things made me happy 🙂 Love the Phoebe reference! And I miss Body Pump so much.. it’s been far too long since I could get to one of those classes. Safe trip!
We did single leg knee drives at boot camp yesterday, except we were also holding 2 dumbbells (10lbs for me) to swing overhead as we jumped.
As for sunshine, for me it is literally sunshine, since it has been rainy in the PNW! 😀
I love hot apple cider and I can’t wait for the weather to cool down (it has cooled down but then it’s suddenly in the 70s again around here) so I can enjoy a mug of hot apple cider. In the meantime, snagging a bite of an apple cider donut with suffice. 😉
Today at Dunkin’ Donuts I watched a little girl (3 years old?) lean over and sneak a bite of her dad’s donut while he got up from the table! She looked so mischevious — it was so cute 🙂 totally made my day!
OMG – Father of the Bride is one of my favs too….I could watch it over and over and never get tired of it (“Every party has a pooper that’s why we invited you…” lol). AND I am obsessed with the bulk binds – or as I call it…the Pick n Mix – at Fresh Market. Is it sad that I sometimes stop there just to get some nonpareils?? 😉
Safe travels tomorrow!

Oh that white chocolate chex mix looks divine! We don’t have much for fancy grocery stores in my area either. Little finds like that are always fun. 🙂
Great news about Sadie!!! I too am obsessed with all things Father of the Bride! SUCH a good movie 🙂 My dogs brought me some sunshine today! As does online shopping for my future apartment when I move in December!!!
I would love your insight on something I’ve been wondering a while. How do you feel about doing BodyPump regularly? I have 2 issues with it:
A. Will it really not bulk you up? I feel like the times I have been really consistent with it (2-3 times a week) my thighs got much bigger. But maybe not.
B. Since it works the exact same muscles in essentially the same way every class, will it give you unbalanced strength training? Or is it enough of a “full body” workout that its fine?
Thanks!
Sadie reminds me a lot of our dog, June- big personality and such a goof! 🙂 pets are great!
That apple cider looks GOOD. I have a 16 week old golden retriever puppy and she completely melted our hearts and brought so much love and joy into our lives. I totally understand the dog obsession!
How do you like bodypump? I’ve always wanted to try it.
I am guilty of whining about one day of dreary weather. I need my Florida sunshine! I used to do a version of that leg raise workout all the time and its KILLER!
What is one thing that is bringing a little sunshine into your day?
Your blog, the title heading, the song, the movie 😉
I’ve been MIA (too busy at work, I check in lunch times) but allow me to send out a late HAPPY BIRTHDAY for Ryan, and glad you had a wonderful weekend and festivities.
Your weather sounds like ours in South Africa – we are also always “sunny” and even when it rains the sun does not stay away for long. We have the best weather right now, including Sunshine, so sending some YOUR WAY 😉
About the “white chocolate” – I’m a total addict, keep it awwwwwwwwway! hehe
As for Sadie: LOVE IT, I have a pic of my doggie in the exact same position – it means they are tooootally happy 🙂
Have a great day further!
We have a little over a week until our wedding!!!
I am about to do my first temp run since my knee surgery in May! I am pretty stoked about that. Andddd I have Friday and Monday off so once I leave today I am free for 4 days!
woo! good for Sadie!!
I LOVE Friends’ references! Before I got married and lived w/ parents, I used to watch their dvds while studying or trying to fall asleep! Makes me happy to see it still relevant 😀
Glad little Sadie is doing well!
I’m a day or two behind on this post but post-baby, being able to go to the gym with my husband again has been boosting my energy and giving us some special “alone” time! That’s MY sunshine!
The blog healthytippingpoint.com posted the best white chocolate chex bark recipe last year around Christmas. I made it for a party and it was a hit. I bet it is similar to the chex mix you got!
A Father of the Bride AND a Friends reference in the same post – hallelujah! Check my most recent instagram, you’ll appreciate the hastags haha. Safe travels to Gettysburg – you’re only a 3 hours train ride away!! Miss you!!!!
Unfortunately it’s pretty yucky weather here in PA as well. Cloudy, rainy, and cool.
I’m in love with The Fresh Market! The bulk bins get me every time, I personally love the milk chocolate crunch, poppin nut crunch, and English toffee caramels. Also they have pumpkin pie almonds by the LB pre bagged that are to die for good!
Yay for Sadie! I’m glad everything turned out ok! I know that my puppy definitely always brightens my dreary day, because she is such a goof ball! Sometimes I swear she’s like a super fluffy 3 year old that just ridiculous things all the time (and minus the temper tantrums and the diaper changes). She is just entertaining! And a snuggle bug when she’s tired!
That step up move looks killer!! Would you add weight to it?
One thing that’s brightening my day? New clothes from Old Navy with a 20% discount!
I LOVE Father of the Bride (but I’m also partial to anything 90s, best decade ever!). A few things that brought sunshine to my Wednesday…falafel wraps for $3 a piece and wearing my new black boots for the first time.
I am starting to feel a bit of a cold coming on, but came home to a fresh-pressed juice by my roommate 🙂 now I feel like I have ALL the vitamins!!! Hehe
I used to take Body Pump all the time. I need to get back into the habit.
My Pomeranian Roco always brings sunshine into my day. He is a goofball. He does that same spread eagle pose when he is completely knocked out lol.
It’s a snowy, rainy, cold day here in Colorado so I feel your pain! I got to work from home this afternoon (on the couch, under a blanket, in front of the fire), so that really brightened my day. I also tackled a couple of projects that really needed to get done. Yay for cozy productivity!
my 4 day weekend starting tomorrow woo!!!
SO glad you got good news from the vet! Sadie is SO cute!
