It’s Friiiday!!!
The weekend is almost here and that in itself it something to smile about, right?
Keeping up the Friday trend around here, today I’m sharing another short list of things that are making me smile lately. As always, I’d love to hear about things you’re loving lately in the comments section of this post.
Happy Friday!
Things I’m Loving Friday
- Absolute Power by David Baldacci
You know you’ve found a fabulous book when you want to crawl into bed hours before your usual bedtime so you can curl up and get lost in the pages of your riveting novel. Absolute Power sucked me in within the first few pages and the suspense and intrigue found on practically every page has made this book a hit with me so far! My aunt gave it to me last weekend and I’ve been flying through it. For those of you who love Scandal as much has I do, this book reminds me of that show a lot, as it takes place in Washington, DC and involves a lot of high-profile people, including the President of the United States. Ryan is planning to read it after me and then we’re definitely watching the movie!
- This Sign
Wise words from a sign I saw on our road trip last weekend.
Despite the chilly weather, I’ve made this for dessert two times this week. Ryan and I have been trying not to keep ice cream in the house because, between the two of us, we can house a half gallon in two days. I won’t lie to you and tell you this banana soft serve is a replacement for ice cream, but it is a fabulously sweet and creamy dessert option that’s much healthier!
The local coffee shop where I am working this morning just started playing this song and I knew it had to become one of my “Things I’m Loving Friday” features because it instantly made me smile and reminded me of the movie Clueless. Please excuse me while I go download that song… and “Supermodel.”
Call it “Northern Envy,” but every time I see puffy vests for sale online, I instantly want to buy a billion of them. (I blame the Columbia fashion show for this!) After eyeing one on a woman in Pennsylvania last weekend and seeing a bunch of them on sale on RueLaLa earlier this week, I think it may be time to add one to my wardrobe, even if I only get to wear it a small handful of times every year. They’re just too cute!
Some of my favorites: Athleta Ridgeview Vest, Columbia Women’s Lay ‘D’ Down Vest (love the light blue!), Reebok Insulated Vest, Roper Quilted Nylon Vest (probably my favorite – love the longer length and cinched waist of this one!)
Ryan and I were cracking up in bed last night after he showed me this article that breaks down the Puppy Bowl by numbers on CNN.com. I’ve obviously heard of the Puppy Bowl before but had no idea it is so incredibly popular. (12.6 million people tuned in last year!) Thirty kittens are “performing” in the halftime show and guinea pigs will be watching from a “blimp.” Too funny!
- Celebrating 10 Years
Tomorrow is a special day for me and Ryan. It’s our 10 year dating anniversary! (The above picture is from my 21st birthday… at Devaney’s for my fellow UCF people out there! And yes, we are planning to celebrate our dating anniversary because, as Ryan says, “Those are good years that should count!”) It’s hard to believe we’ve been together for a decade now and I’m excited for a hot date night on the horizon tomorrow!
Past Things I’m Loving Friday posts:
Questions of the Morning
- What is one thing making you smile lately?
- Would you rather watch the Super Bowl or the Puppy Bowl?

Ha ha, I actually own the clueless soundtrack 😀
Puppy bowl for sure, though without cable, I probably won’t be watching either

As soon as I saw “Kids in America” I could hear it in my head and thought of Clueless! Love that movie!
Kimberly says
One thing that makes me smile is seeing that you and Ryan have kept the love alive for 10 years. 🙂 I just got married a month ago, so it’s nice to see a couple who has been married longer still so happy!
Amelia says
Definitely watching the Super Bowl this weekend. Congratulations on your dating anniversary. Ryan is right, you should celebrate it! I think of our dating anniversary ever June.
Mmmm…..banana soft-serve is so good. We have nixed the ice cream in the house too for the same reason. I’ve been making different variations of banana soft-serve lately. Flavor combos have been: plain pb, cocoa powder & pb for Reese flavor, pineapple/coconut, frozen raspberries, plain cocoa powder, frozen strawberries. You can even make a big batch at the beginning of the week and freeze in popsicle molds so you can grab one throughout the week and not dirty the food processor every time.
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says

The last book that riveted me completely was a German book set in NYC; the title roughly translates as “The wondrous story of Faye Archer”. It’s about a woman who falls in love with a man who turns out to live in a slightly skewed universe
And what’s making me smile today? The gentle, beautiful snow fall outside. I was so inspired, I made a snow elephant. Plus, the dogs love rooting around under the fresh snow.

Happy 10 years and that is totally worth celebrating!! I think it’s hard to believe that I’ve been with my hubby for almost 7 years. I remember it like yesterday when I was just marveling on the fact that ‘that guy’ over there was so hot! haha
Amy @ Run with Perseverance says
David Baldacci is a fantastic writer! I don’t think I’ve read a book of his that I didn’t like. They’re all suspenseful, but he also has some coming-of-age books (Wish You Well and The Last Summer) that are really, really good!
