Past updates:
And just FYI, I’ll be creating a Baby page on the blog soon where I’ll put all of these posts in one place for future reference. Once I got pregnant, I could not stop reading other bloggers’ pregnancy recaps and loved it when they were well organized. Since I didn’t tell anyone I was pregnant for quite a while, I was dying to read about a “real person’s” experience – not just what I found in pregnancy books – and loved bloggers’ pregnancy recaps! I hope these weekly recaps are interesting to you guys, too… or that they may become of interest in the future at some point!
Baby Updates
11 Weeks: Baby is the size of a fig!
12 Weeks: Baby is the size of a lime!
(Forgot to snap a bump pic!)
13 Weeks: Baby is the size of a peach!
(Please pay no attention to the blurry photo/dirty mirror. I snapped this pic to send to friends and it ended up being the only bump pic I had from that week and I didn’t want to miss a bump pic for the second week in a row.)
Weight Gained
11 Weeks: Didn’t weigh myself.
12 Weeks: 3 pounds.
13 Weeks: Didn’t weigh myself.
Workouts
11 Weeks: Consistent almost-daily workouts. Aside from the spinning classes I teach, I’m not doing much other cardio and prefer to keep my workouts low-impact (barre is fabulous!). Strength training (specifically BodyPump) also feels great and makes me feel strong!
12 Weeks: Consistent almost-daily workouts.
13 Weeks: Took it lighter on the workouts this week and, with the exception of the classes I had to teach, stuck mostly to Pure Barre and walking as my main form of exercise.
Symptoms
11 Weeks: Increased urination (seriously it’s ridiculous…), nausea returned with a bang (constant eating helps keep it at bay), restless sleep, increased appetite, thankfully no fatigue, minor breakouts on my face.
12 Weeks: Incredibly thirsty, no major nausea, more breakouts on my face, increased appetite (<— I’m sensing an ongoing theme).
13 Weeks: One of the roughest weeks yet in terms of nausea, early morning puking, two days of some pretty intense fatigue, skin still looks pretty rough and zits/bumps are now popping up on my chest and back. How fun!
Food Aversions
11 Weeks: Tomato-based soups, chili, most cooked vegetables
12 Weeks: Same as week 11
13 Weeks: Same as week 11
Food Cravings
11 Weeks: FRUIT (all day every day!), pizza, bagels, fresh salads (woohoo for finally craving some kind of vegetable!), chips
12 Weeks: Eggs, Twizzlers, gummy candy, fruit (specifically apples, oranges and grapes), salty popcorn, sandwiches
13 Weeks: Sandwiches, eggs, fruit
Sleep
11 Weeks: Waking up constantly. Difficulty going back to sleep most nights.
12 Weeks: Improved sleep!
13 Weeks: Rough sleep. Waking up constantly throughout the night.
Looking Forward To…
11 Weeks: Our 12 week appointment! I am feeling anxious this week and really want to see our little baby again and hear its heartbeat.
12 Weeks: Finding out whether our baby is a boy or a girl.
13 Weeks: Our 3D ultrasound appointment next week!
Gender Suspicions
11 Weeks: Still no clue but starting to lean towards thinking we’re having a girl… Not sure why!
12 Weeks: Girl??? Boy? I don’t know. Leaning towards girl though…
13 Weeks: Girl.
Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases?
11 Weeks: I didn’t buy anything personally, but Ryan got me the Bun in the Oven sampler pack of beauty products from Mambino for Christmas and I started using some of them. Love the organic body wash, belly butter (using it sparingly at the moment, but plan to use it more as my belly grows) and the lip balm.
12 Weeks: Nope!
13 Weeks: Nope!
Any Fun Stories?
11 Weeks: There was some confusion related to one of my prenatal appointments this week. I showed up at the doctor’s office expecting a routine exam with no ultrasound only to have the doctor tell me to “empty my bladder” and prepare for an ultrasound and blood work. I was shocked and incredibly nervous (I am horrible with needles) and immediately texted Ryan at work to let him know. I knew he’d be REALLY bummed to miss an ultrasound (we both were!), but I decided to get the blood work and ultrasound done without him since he couldn’t get away from the office on such short notice and I figured I should get the first round of blood work out of the way as early as possible.
The ultrasound ended up being absolutely amazing and Ryan and I were both so, so sad he missed it, but I filled him in afterward in great detail. It was incredible because, not only did I get to see our little one again (the baby was SO MUCH bigger than it was at 8 weeks!), but I saw our baby move for the first time and immediately started crying. It was unreal and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing on the monitor. The ultrasound tech was actually a blog reader (crazy, huh!?) and was so incredibly kind. She, along with the doctor, took a lot of time to zoom in and show me our baby’s 10 fingers, kidneys, beating heart (left ventricle and right ventricle… I could not believe the detail!), etc. I was blown away and left the appointment on cloud nine. I immediately called Ryan, my parents and my sister who all shared in the excitement with me!
Follow up: We ended up scheduling a 3D ultrasound at 14 weeks because Ryan was so anxious to see our baby move. It was incredible. More to come!!
13 Weeks: We told my in-laws about the baby this week when I was in Sarasota! Not filling them in was SO HARD, but since I knew I’d see them in person during my trip to Florida in late January, we were determined to wait and tell them when I could do so face-to-face. I’m SO glad we waited because seeing my mother-in-law cry in person was unforgettable and I’m so glad I could hug everyone immediately after I told them all they’d be grandparents and great grandparents. It was definitely worth the wait!
I also told my best friends from college this week when we were all together in Sarasota.
(There were secretly four people in that photo of me with my beautiful friend Leah who is due to have her baby boy this month!)
They were all shocked and so, so excited for us! (And that’s sparkling water + grapefruit juice in my champagne glass.)
Melissa @ Freeing Imperfections says
It’s definitely so hard to wait to tell people, but in person is the best! My mom just so happened to be visiting me when I was 12 weeks along, so I figured it was the perfect time since we’d likely be telling people after that anyway. I let her open a onesie in person and her reaction was priceless. Not telling my mom for almost 2 months was ridiculous though!

oh I’m sure that was so hard!! but also totally worth it in the end! 🙂

Ah I love hearing about all the details with the ultrasound! I don’t know what you’re beliefs are, but I just have to praise God for His amazing creation!! That’s incredible and I’m excited to hear about all the other details you guys will be able to see as he or she grows:)

So excited for you and your family! I’m betting girl- I’ve just heard that women tend to have a rougher and sicker pregnancy when its a girl vs boy. Sorry to hear about your skin not doing awesome- I think for some woman pregnancy has been magic to their skin and for others its been the devil- hope it gets better but you are absolutely glowing regardless 🙂

I just loveeeeeee these updates! I too would secretly stalk other bloggers’ updates with my first pregnancy before I’d announced. It’s just the best to read someone else’s pretty personal experience with it all!
Watching the baby move is so incredible, I agree. Actually feeling her/him move? Astounding & beyond magical. It’s the best when the husband can feel too-sooooooo cool.
I’m so thinking girl! I can NOT wait to find out! haha 😉

I love reading these pregnancy updates! I don’t have any babies of my own yet, so it’s really interesting to read about a real pregnancy. I hope things continue to go well for you! Can’t wait to find out whether you’re having a boy or a girl. I have a feeling it’s a girl, though. 🙂

What other ‘baby’ blogs have you found very insightful? We are currently 14 1/2 weeks and just at the point where we are letting our big secret out to everyone other than family and close friends who we couldn’t keep from telling very early!

I love BERF – Baby Eats Real Food!! Soooo organized.
Daily Garnish is another one and she did a nice section on her pregnancies as well!

I love the mambino line! My husband got me the belly butter for Christmas, love the smell! And yes, I completely agree about reading others’ pregnancy experiences on blogs, it totally helped during the first trimester. I’m guessing girl for you 🙂
Karen says
I would pick up one of those oval rings first.
Meg says
I cried too during my 12 week ultrasound yesterday – it is so amazing to see baby kicking and moving, even blinking! Ryan will enjoy it – such a miracle 🙂
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse says
I love this! That is so good that you crave food! I couldn’t handle all of the acid in it because of my acid reflux + heartburn related to pregnancy 🙁 No fun!
Jesse says
You look amazing in your photos. Can’t tell that you are pregos at all. Must be the great food you are eating.
Pam S @ Nuts for Nutrition says
So week 12 your looking forward to finding out the gender, and your week 13 gender suspicion is “girl.”
Covert announcement!!??? 🙂

I had the exact same food aversions during my pregnancy. I will always remember when I was only 7 weeks pregnant and we went to a chili cook off :/ not good. My biggest craving was also fruit and smoothies! Maybe that’s because it was summer, though. To at least get my veggies in, I would bust out my juicer.
Julie says
fruit is my BFF right now!!
Julie says
oh my gosh, during my spinning certification, a girl sitting in front of me took a bowl of chili OUT OF HER BAG and i started gagging!! who brings chili to a spinning certification!?!? it totally caught me off guard! ha!

I think I discovered your blog in college about 2009-2010 and have been an avid follower ever since. You inspired my own healthy lifestyle blog, (which I didn’t keep up with), and a purchase (best decision of my life) of the clingiest, snuggliest, craziest vizsla (Harper). Now I’m married and pregnant and have been going back through your pregnancy posts, so thanks for all the relatable experiences! Knowing that the food aversions (I can’t seem to want anything healthy and am eating things that have my husband wondering where his strict healthy eating wife went) , acne, constant nausea, and bloating/feeling fat and not looking pregnant… all result in a beautiful gift from God like Chase! <3
