I’m so glad Brittany encouraged me to give it a shot because I absolutely loved it. The workout we did reminded me a lot of the workouts I personally create for myself and the circuits I’ve put together for clients at the gym in the past. The big difference? In a group exercise environment, I can’t cheat my way out of burpees, tuck jumps or other more challenging exercises like I can when I’m doing my own thing. Oh the beauty of a group fitness class!
The bootcamp workout began with a five minute warm up that included jumping jacks and jogging outside before it was time for the “meat” of the core and cardio class. Below you can see a 20-minute cardio and core-based workout that is very similar to the one we completed in the class. I was red-faced and incredibly sweaty by the end but enthusiastically told Brittany I will absolutely be back. I LOVED it!
Cardio + Core Burn Bootcamp Workout
Before the class was done, we had one final challenge to complete. We completed two rounds of the following cardio core burner:
- 2 minutes: Alternate 10 tuck jumps with 20 toe taps
- 2 minutes: 1 minute plank, 30 second plank left, 30 second plank right
I couldn’t leave without thanking BBC owner, Morgan, for such an awesome workout (and for her permission to share a little bit about my experience on the blog). Morgan and her husband own Burn Bootcamp and she’s currently 18 weeks pregnant! I also had fun saying hi to Brittany’s two adorable girls before it was time to say goodbye. (Burn Bootcamp offers childcare while you workout. I’m planning to bring Chase there in the future but wanted to check it out first before bringing him along.)
I’m already looking forward to more bootcamp workouts in the future!

That’s awesome that you’re getting right back into your fitness routine! My daughter is 7 months old and I’m still struggling to find time after work to be active. I’ve tried doing T25 during nap time but her naps are shorter than a DVD!
Dottie (@crazyfitmommy) says
I know exactly how you feel! My youngest is also 7 months, and I have a 2 year old and an almost 6 year old. When the naps don’t line it it can be seriously hard to find the time to workout. I’m restarting Asylum because there aren’t any good gyms near me, and I just hope that my toddler will jump around with me and not get bored…
Once it cools off here I’ll be able to toss them in the stroller and go running, which will make working out much easier.
Anne says
I would like to hear about high intensity training like this, with jumping, and stages of pregnancy…
Julie says
When I was pregnant, I found that I had to modify and eliminate most plyometric/jumping exercises because they just felt wrong/uncomfortable for me beginning in my second trimester. The general rule of thumb is that you can do what you did pre-pregnancy during pregnancy as long as it feels okay, but obviously talking with your doctor is best!
Anne says
Thank you!

Getting back into working out after baby is so hard!!!! Mostly because, um, down there just is never the same and I honestly feel like bad things will happen. And then there is the childcare issue. I love how there is childcare for Chase, I always feel so guilty dropping my kids off in childcare for a workout. Guess I just need to relax.

Hi Julie! I just started following your blog this summer, and LOVE it! I also live in the Charlotte area (Huntersville), teach group ex fitness classes, and welcomed a new baby girl 10 days ago. Your blog was a tremendous resource for me during my pregnancy.
As soon as I have clearance from my dr, I want to try a BBC class. Which location did you go to?
Julie says
Hi Kris!! Can you shoot me an email? I just try to keep some things like where exactly I workout and teach, etc. off the blog for safety purposes but I’m more than happy to chat with you over email! My email –> pbfingers@gmail.com
Kris says
Absolutely! I’ll send right now.

Boot camp workouts are awesome! I love the format, environment, and motivation!
Heather @Fit n Cookies says
I love this workout! I think it’s great you are heading out and trying new places to workout! Bootcamp workouts are tough, but i’m ready to get to that sweaty stage again! I’ve missed it!
Carli says
Love finding a new workout to re-energize after feeling blah during normal routines! What is a toe tap? Sorry if it’s a dumb question, I just have never heard of that exercise. I actually refer to my husband’s “dance moves” as toe tapping lol
Julie says
Quickly tapping your toes up on a bench (or, in this case, the curb of a sidewalk)! Here’s a picture demo: http://www.ipcphysicaltherapy.com/CardiovascularExercises.aspx

thank you!

Jeannie says
Looks really good! Who watches Chase while you go to workout?
Jeannie says
Was just trying to learn how you fit it in with a newborn and child care needs as I still can’t figure it out with my 20 mos old.
Julie says
My mom is in town (leaving Saturday) and watched him for me. 🙂
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says

Taylor says
Is it weird that I am excited to try this workout? It looks like it will leave me super sweaty yet energized.
Liz says
I am in a fitness rut for sure. Ever since my boyfriend’s father passed away unexpectedly, life has been one heck of a roller-coaster. I’m hoping after a weekend back home with my family will clear my mind and I can get back on my schedule of AM workouts and cooking healthy foods!
Jessica @ Semi-Sweet Tooth says
You should definitely feel comfortable taking a minute. I’m very sorry for your loss – sending good thoughts and prayers your way.
Julie says
I am so sorry to hear this, Liz. I am sure you are going through so many emotions. Grieving is important and also draining. Prayers coming your way for you and your boyfriend. <3
Laurel @blondeandabrit.com says
50 Jump squats. Oh goodness. Those things kill me. I will try this torture workout next week on leg day 🙂
Jessica @ Semi-Sweet Tooth says
This sounds awesome!
On an unrelated note, my mom just tried her first BodyPump class at the Y in Palatine. She LOVED it! Group classes really bring people of all ages and levels of expertise together don’t they. Such a strong sense of community!
Julie says
Yay for Palatine and yay for BodyPump!!
Samantha @ThePlantedVegan says
That’s awesome you’re getting right back into working out! Definitely encouraging!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
I can’t believe you’re already back to fitness! That means two things: 1. it’s possible! so encouraging!! 2. Chase is old enough for you to have healed and gotten back into your routine! AH! Time slow down!
Katrina says
50 jump squats?! My quads are crying for mercy after 30! 😀 Way to go! Nothing to re-motivate you than an exercise hiatus, right? 🙂
Ava Cherry says
Hey Julie! Love your blog, have been reading it for years! I live in Charlotte too, and have a great workout suggestion for you. Try Hilliard Studio Method. It’s an amazing workout (barre, cardio, Pilates), and it has changed my body. A mom and daughter started it and it’s great for expecting, or new moms.
Julie says
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve heard great things about their workouts!
Katie says
I just love following your journey with having Chase and now coming back into working out! This workout looks fun and Chase is so adorable <3 Love!
Mackenzie says
This workout looks like one that would be right up my alley! Hopefully Burn Bootcamp will make its way to the west coast soon!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
I totally agree–coming back postpartum to my fitness this week has been so so awesome! I’m totally sore but really happy. It carries me through the tough moments of parenting. 🙂
I love group fitness–this sounds like a stellar workout!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Way to go on your workout!

Hi! I stumbled across your site again after months of not taking a look, and proceeded to binge-read all things pregnancy/baby. Congratulations on your beautiful son! I’m in the early stages of pregnancy right now, so I love being able to read what someone else has gone through. Thank you for sharing your journey!
Annie says
It’s funny because I was never as into fitness before having kids than I am after having them. I find that it is my ME TIME and I love how it makes me feel. I have so much more energy when I am exercising on the reg. Yay for #fitmamas! I need to get back into my routine to feel better!

I go to BBC Durham! I freaking love it! I’ve been a member since May and it’s definitely my favorite gym that I’ve ever joined by FAR! Highly recommend! Wow, I was so excited when I saw the logo in the preview window. I’ll have to tell my trainer today. Woo hoo! Go BBC!
Kristin says
Can you tell me what a membership to BBC typically costs? I am weighing this vs a gym that had Les Mills classes offered for my next workout option and wanted to see what the difference in price might be. Thanks so much!
Olivia says
I am wondering what it costs too! does anyone have that info?
