Hello and happy Wednesday!
How is your day going so far? Everything is just peachy over here. Lots of work, sweat and a little bit of fun, too!
Today began with work. After breakfast, I had an early morning personal training session on the books and then it was time for me to sneak in a workout of my own. It had been way too long since I last took my favorite Wednesday boot camp class and I decided to change that today!
25 Minute Boot Camp Workout
My favorite instructor taught the class and took us though 25 minutes of fast-paced exercises that included cardio, strength and plyometric movements. It was a good one!
Here’s the rundown (shared with permission):
- Hip Abduction
- Knee Repeaters
- Ball Slams (simply remove the “pass”)
It was super sweaty!
I think boot camp workouts that don’t repeat any of the exercises are my favorite. Once I finish one minute of burpees, I like knowing I won’t have to do them again! It’s easier for me to give each exercise my all when I know I’ll be done with it for the duration of my workout once 60 seconds is up!
Lunch
After my boot camp workout, I drove back home to let Sadie out and fix myself a quick lunch.
Today’s lunch included a salad topped with edamame, corn, salsa chicken leftover from last night’s dinner and light blue cheese dressing.
I don’t like blue cheese but I like the Bolthouse Farms yogurt blue cheese dressing. Not sure how that works!
And yes, I definitely made my salad in a mixing bowl. I hate stirring my salad in a smaller bowl because everything falls out and makes a mess and by making salads in mixing bowls, I can combat this little annoyance.
After lunch, it was back to work! Today is flyin’ by!
Question of the Afternoon
- What is your go-to salad dressing at the moment?
I’ve been loving Annie’s Goddess dressing and the Bolthouse Farms ranch and blue cheese yogurt dressing, but I also love simple olive oil + balsamic vinegar as a salad topper!
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats says
I used to not like blue cheese either but now it is probably my favourite cheese! I think it’s an acquired taste.
I love to make my own dressing with apple cider vinegar, nutritional yeast and Dijon mustard, it has a cheesy but delicious flavour that works well on salads.
I think I love circuits that don’t repeat exercises too. Knowing when you start an exercise and its hard but that’s all you have of it is a pretty good feeling 😉
Julie says
Oooh I want to try that dressing! Do you have a recipe for it on your blog?
Katie @ running4cupcakes says
I LOVE bleu cheese dressing – especially if it has extra bleu cheese chunks in it! And I am in total agreement that the workout is much better if you only have to do each exercise once!
Katie says
Oh I totally agree with the mixing bowl! I had the problem this afternoon actually… salad ingredients all over haha. My recent salad dressing Blackberry Ginger Balsamic!
Lori Carroll says
Blackberry Ginger Balsamic sounds yummy, is it store bought or do you make your own? If store bought whats is the brand, if you make your own would you share the recipe?
Katie says
I wish I could say I made it on my own! But when I was visiting family in Kansas I picked it up at a local shop!! http://firsttasteoliveoil.com/store/index.php?p=catalog&parent=6&pg=1 I canNOT explain how yummy everything is (you got to taste test anything you wanted) The oil olives are also great. I did try the Espresso, Coconut white and the honey ginger!
Dawn @OfficeGymRepeat says
That boot camp workout looks like fun! Might try it this evening after a few laps around the track. My go-to salad dressing right now is Olive Garden’s light Italian dressing – you can find it at Ralph’s and it tastes just like the one at their restaurants 🙂
Catherine says
Hey Julie – Have you ever tried the Dynamic Kettlebell workout on the NTC app? I tried it yesterday and my legs were like jello!! I can still feel the burn today I have a date with the foam roller tonight.
Judging by the workouts you share, I think you’d really like it 🙂
Amer says
Green Goddess Dressing is definitely my go-to! So good!
I have to tell you though…after all of your raving about BodyPump I finally tried a class on Monday and absolutely loved it! (even though my arms are screaming at me today 😉 )
Julie says
Isn’t it the best!?!
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life says
I totally agree about loving non-repeating boot camp exercises! Once burpees are done and out of the way, I can give a sigh of relief. I also love it when spinning instructors say that we’re on our last song. I push SO much harder!
Laura @ The Neuffers says
I just made this salad and LOVE it! SO many falvours and vegetables all mixed into one. It’s a crowd-pleaser for sure! (I used brown rice instead of quinoa and it was fabulous!)

Shel@PeachyPalate says
I made a big batch of cashew cream so mixing it up with all sorts of flavours…Caesar inspired, “cheesy”, spicy chipotle…loving it! I love workouts like that that don’t repeat exercises…it pushes me to really give each one my all!
april says
salsa or hummus make great salad “dressings” – actually, mixing them together would probably taste really good, too! 🙂
Megan @ The Skinny-Life says
Balsamic & oilve oil will always be my go to, but lately I’m loving olive oil with lemon. Simple & easy!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
That workout looks great! I love the idea of only doing an exercise once — it makes it easier to go all out when you don’t have to save anything for another round!
My current favorite salad dressing is Newman’s Own Parmesan & Roasted Garlic — so good!
Jill says
I’ve been loving Newman’s Own Lighten Up Raspberry & Walnut dressing for awhile now. I think my all time favorite will always be good old ranch though 😉 That workout looks great. Will definitely be giving it a try soon!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food says
I love not repeating exercises too. It’s so mental! My favorite dressing right now is a Greek yogurt feta dressing from Trader Joe’s. It goes with everything!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
This is probably going to sound strange but my go to salad dressing is actually mustard. I used to think it would be nasty but ran out of dressing one day and tried it out – it was DELICIOUS! Now I am hooked and it is perfect being on a budget!
Elizabeth R. says
Sounds strange, but I loveee using salsa as a salad-dressing. It has so much flavor, but is a good-for-you option. Also, a fan of the olive oil and vinegar but… let’s not lie — Idk that everyone has a Jets Pizza near them, but their ranch is amazing!
Taylee @ twist me fit says
I’m obsessed with ranch! I pretty much put it on everything I eat, haha 🙂
Angie Jerde says
I have recently found Bragg’s Amino Acids and love it! It is a wonderful soy sauce alternative and can’t go wrong with a complete protein! I use it in stir fry’s, steamed veggies, pasta and sushi (best of all) just to name a few : )
Celina @ My Cajun Trinity says
I’m the same way with my salads…I toss it in a mixing bowl and dive in right away. No need to dirty more dishes than necessary.
I’ve been using Marzetti’s Simply Dressed Vinaigrette.
Annie @ Annie Get Your Run says
I’m loving just straight balsamic vinegar lately. I’m on weight watchers and using that assures me that I’m not wasting too many valuable points on salads!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
I’ve been LOVING this southwest chipotle dressing lately. Of course, in moderation since it’s got more calories than the salad itself 🙂
Mariah says
Mouth-watering! Your salad looks so incredibly delicious. Mmmm. I love salad. Honestly, I don’t understand how people can dislike veggies. I am such a veggie girl. I could eat salad at almost every meal. It’s -so-good! I have never tried edamame, but I would love to try that one day. It looks very refreshing on your salad. Also, thanks for the workout! 🙂 I’m all about quick workouts. I love that you incorporate upper body and lower body in your circuits. I’ll be trying this one soon!
One veggie I am incorporating more…? Maybe mushrooms? I used to hate them – as in I would never even TASTE them because they made me think of frogs and nastiness. Surprisingly, I really like them now. I won’t say I love them, but I enjoy adding them to my meals. Now one veggie that has been an absolute staple is broccoli. I throw it in my shakes, I eat it with my eggs, I have it with tuna salad, I have it with pasta or rice… everything. I just LOVE IT! 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway! If I win – or should I say when I win… 😉
I hope to get some chia seeds. Every health/fitness blogger seems to rave about them, and I have yet to taste one.
God bless you!
Hannah says
pumpkin! my staple is pumpkin year round. it is great mixed into recipes for breakfast through dinner and dessert. I also can give it to my dog when he’s not feeling so well.
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I always use a mixing bowl! Otherwise half my salad ends up on the floor!
Nicole says
I’ve been lovin’ a spicy ranch lately! Hidden Valley Farms has a Southwest Ranch that is tasty. I add a little water to the bottle so it’s thinner (not a LOT of water to make it watery) and it covers more salad.
Alissa @ Eat Clean Beauty Queen says
I’ve been adding corn to my salads lately too. I feel like it just gives them a pop of flavor and makes it feel more like a restaurant salad for some reason. I find when I put enough good veggies on top I don’t really need or want a dressing! Hardboiled eggs smashed and avocado usually end up coating everything else!
Kelsie says
i’m going gluten free this month and unfortunately many salad dressings have gluten in them! so i’m on the prowl to find a yummy gluten free salad dressing (other than vinegar and oil)!
Kara says
Hands down sweet potatoes!! I have to have at least one a day!! I usually bake five or six at a time, which not only makes the house smell heavenly, but then I know I’ll have one ready to go for lunch for the whole week!! I adore them plain!! No fixins or add-ins, just healthy goodness!!
Kira says
I’ve recently begun putting silken tofu in my smoothies and shakes. It makes them super rich and creamy and it’s a great alternative to protein powder!
Samantha @ Anatomy of My World says
Love that workout! Will be adding it to my resistance training days!
I stick with balsalmic or other types of vinagrette.. I can’t have dairy so that knocks out most yummy dressings!
Natalie @ Twenty-Something Talk says
I love love love the Ken’s raspberry walnut vinaigrette. I like a lot of greens, and some sunflower seeds, with that dressing. To die for!
Jan Klein says
Love Blue Cheese, Love Annie’s Goddess dressing, but mostly I’m an Olive Oil & Vinegar (lately Blood Orange Balsamic) girl.
Ashley @ Brocblog says
I love almost every vinegar-y dressing but I also love something bbq-y.
Sandra says
AVACADO! What a treasure of nutrients! I never realized what all it does for me as a runner… now to get my 5 kiddos to love it too!
Jamie @ Dishing Out Health says
For Mexican-style salads, I’ve been mixing 1-2 tbsp of reduced fat Ranch with a dash of Sriracha, low sodium taco seasoning and a dab of water to help mix in the seasoning. It is so awesome! I actually topped a big dish of nachos with it for the Superbowl and it was a major hit. I bet it would be good on the salad you had for lunch!
Lisa W. says
Ever since I discovered Organicville french dressing, I haven’t used anything else on my salads.
Cathy Wilson says
I too have recently discovered silket tofu, love it in my smoothies.
Cathy Wilson says
Silken….
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely says
I just got home from work and hadn’t made up my mind yet exactly what I was going to do today, work-out wise, since it’s currently freezing and raining. This workout is perfect! My favorite go-to dressing as of late is Newman’s Own Light Balsamic Vinaigrette. Yum!
Alison Althouse says
I love making my own dressing with 1Tablespoon of caesar parmesan viniagrette + 1/3c balsamic vinegar + 2T horseradish mustard + 1 packet of equal… only 1 WW point or 60 calories total and makes a ton of dressing… So delicious!
Lately, I’ve been trying to use more squash – spaghetti squash and butternut squash are my current faves. Would love to have a reason to rush back to Whole Foods!

Blue cheese is definitely an acquired taste! Thankfully, I like it now!
Lori Carroll says
store bought: Maple Grove Farms of Vermont fat free Raspberry Vinaigrette and also fat free Balsamic Vinaigrette
Livi says
I love balsamic vinegar– it’s a classic, and so deliciously simple!
Lisa says
Bolthouse yogurt salsa ranch, girard champagne, & a homeade dill vinegarette.
Kari F says
I have started adding quinoa into my diet. It is so versatile and filling!
gina marion says
a quick healthy food i like is “Eat Smart” Sweet Kale Vegetable Salad Kit” from Costco; they probably have it at the grocery store. I’m not a big fan of bagged lettuce bc it’s always wilted but this is not lettuce; it’s kale, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage and chicory so it’s hearty. it even comes with dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds and poppyseed dressing.
Kelly says
Can’t wait to try this workout! Lately I’ve been loving strawberry vinaigrette (I can’ get enough!)
Ashlee says
Just finished the circuit plus a few miles of running and my legs are so sore already !! I love balsamic for salad, but I also use franks red hot (sounds so weird but it’s decorous plus low cal)!
Ashlee says
Delicious sorry **
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
Totally agree with the non-repeating exercises. So much easier to go all out if you don’t have to repeat!
I forgot the brand but I tried a poppyseed dressing this weekend that was delish! It was in a small-ish glass jar… its one of the popular brands that’s at a lot of grocery stores!
3girls1apple says
The 25 minute workout does look fun and I bet it works wonders. Thank you for sharing from 3girls1apple.com
Brianna K. @ Hungry Gator Gal says
Bolthouse Farms’ Salsa Ranch dressing is killer!
