Today I will be researching:
- Cruises
- Charleston, South Carolina
- North Carolina mountain getaways
- Puerto Rico
- New York
- Italy (???)
As always, I’m definitely open to suggestions! I’ve already checked out a bunch of the hotels you guys told me about in the comments section of my post last night and a bunch of them look amazing!
We are planning to postpone our St. Lucia trip until next year. We were really looking forward to visiting the island and still hope to make it out there within a year… Perhaps for our one-year anniversary? 😀
Until then it’s crunch time to find a replacement honeymoon in 48 hours. Ready? Go!
Breakfast
It’s been a while since I’ve busted out cold oatmeal for breakfast! Last night I enjoyed a small bowl of oats after dinner as my evening snack and saved the remaining oatmeal for my morning meal.
I paired the leftover cold oatmeal with a cup of Greek yogurt and a sliced Gala apple.
The thick yogurt paired perfectly with the pillowy texture of the cold oatmeal and the sweet crunch of the autumn apple.
This breakfast was pretty darn filling!
It was great post-workout fuel after an awesome BodyPump class this morning.
Question of the Morning
If you had to plan a honeymoon in 48 hours, where is the first place you would look to visit?
Rachel says
Postponing St. Lucia until next year is probably better all around. I’m from south Texas and I know what kind of damage a storm like that can do and it just wouldn’t be the same.
I would probably look at SF and go into Napa or NYC. I haven’t been to either though.
Karen says
Wow! Tough question… I can’t imagine having to scrap plans and start all over. I might go somewhere like Colorado. I think a few of the resorts are open or somewhere where the fall colors would be fantastic. I really love Asheville, NC. It is no St. Lucia but a nice relaxing getaway.
Anne says
I think a cruise might be great. We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise last year. And it means that you don’t have to plan ANYTHING. Just get on a boat.
Michelle says
Morning! Your breakfast looks delish as always. I’m from NY so if you need any help planning just let me know.
Hope says
Good luck planning your honeymoon! You can do it! 🙂 I’m sure whatever you choose will be amazing! Have you tried looking up any of the Sandals resorts? I’ve never been to them but they look romantic from their website. Good luck! 🙂
jessie says
Well, Rome is definetely one of the romantic cities on the planet and a great honeymoon spot (I’d venture to guess). But seriously look into less-talked-about European countries/cities like Greece (Santorini Island?! Absolutely AMAZING), Switzerland or Ireland. All fantastic romantic getaways!
Jenn @ LiveWellFitNow says
Isn’t life just crazy with what it will give ya sometimes? But the beauty…you have your hubby and now you two can create something new and incredible together!
I would say
1- cruise b/c you don’t have to worry about anything. you just walk on, forget about the time and soak up the sun/time together
or
2- italy. because i went there for my honeymoon and I think it is the best place in the world. Florence + Venice would be my vote.
One offers warmth, sun + water, the other offers romance and more romance! Oh and incredible wine!
Erin says
I would look to visit Paris. I was there this past summer with my boyfriend (his parents are engineers for Exxon and stationed in Brussels) and it was just incredible. You can really get your moneys worth if you stayed in Brussels and then drove to Paris for a day or two. Both of the cities are absolutely wonderful! Our trip went from staying in Brussels at their house for a few days, then driving to Normandy one day and then this great bayside town of On Fleur (? no clue on spelling). Stayed at a nice bed and breakfast there then woke up to drive to Paris for two days. We saw all the sights, stayed one night went to a great Michelin one-star restaurant blocks from the Eiffel Tower (Le Violin was the name) and then drove back to Brussels the next day.
It could always be great to just stay in a nice cozy foreign town where you rent a car and can drive anywhere to explore… making your own fun can be just as great as planned fun elsewhere.

I feel like such a bad reader because I have yet to say congratulations to you and Ryan! I am so happy for both of you.. I hope you enjoy your Honeymoon 🙂
Amy Olsen says
Good luck in finding a new honeymoon destination. Just remember that no matter what you chose, or where you end up, it’s because you are celebrating one of the best moments of your life. Good luck!
Megan T. says
Charleston, South Carolina is one of my favorite cities and you might check out Kiawah Island, SC. It’s about 40 minutes outside of Charleston and private. I’ve been going there for years and it’s so relaxing. Plus it’s a very active island with tennis, golf, and miles and miles of bike trails. Good luck in your planning!
Marina says
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, I hope you can plan an awesome honeymoon!
hm…I would search some islands definitely, beaches, maybe even mountains!
Mountains are really amazing, and me and my bf really enjoy walking up and down the nice hills :))
maria @ Chasing the Now says
I think I’d opt for New York. 🙂 Affordable, but fun!
Kristin says
Congratulations on your wedding! I live in NYC and think it could be a great spot for a romantic honeymoon. The city is beautiful this time of year, gorgeous foliage! The NYC Marathon is this Sunday, which is a great spectacle to watch. You can also rent a car and drive out to the North Fork of Long Island (about 3 hrs from the city) and visit the wineries there and stay in some really sweet and romantic cottages on the water. Let me know if you choose NYC and I would be happy to give you more suggestions! Good luck!
Caroline says
First, I feel like a bad reader too! CONGRATS YOU TWO!!! You both look so happy in the pics we’ve seen so far (and you look gorgeous)–I wish you all the best!
Second, I spent my spring semester abroad in Rome this year and can’t say enough good things about it. We hosted parents for a week and they absolutely loved their hotel and all the restaurants/hotspots we visited, so if that’s of any interest, let me know and I’d love to help you out! (Also with tips on how to get around the city, how to get from Rome to other cities in Italy, etc.)
And finally, if not Italy, I’d think about Jamaica (very easy to get to), and if not out of the country, I’d look into Sea Island or Cumberland Island (where JFK, Jr. and Carolyn Bessette got married!) off the coast of Georgia. Hope this helps!!
Silvia says
Rome probably has the best weather at this time of the year (of course, Paris is great in any weather, but they just had some riots), and there is so much to do and see with just walking around in old cobblestone streets and have tiramisu and the best coffee in the world in little coffee shops. You just need to get there, and pick a nice hotel.
Sara says
Julie-
Just found your blog, congrats a million on your beautiful, wonderful wedding! If you choose NYC shoot me an email, I live here and have been to well over 300 restaurants and know the city like the back of my hand, I would be more than happy to help you plan and give you TONS of restaurant suggestions to boot!
XOXO

I’m dreaming of Turtle Island in Fiji for my honeymoon; however, I think it’s CRAZY expensive. I believe the only deal they have is stay 6 nights, get the 7th free.
I’d definitely look into cruises as well. They are so fun and sometimes you can find an all-inclusive one!
What about Greece? Santorini, perhaps? Those islands are beautiful.
Sarah says
Wow, talk about stress!! Italy… would be awesome, but personally I’d be nervous about planning such a big trip in 48 hours, but it could be a blast that way. My husband and I have been cruising, and it’s fun but we decided we enjoy staying in a particular place because we felt we could enjoy it more, so we’d probably cross that off the list in favor of a resort. I live in central NC and have been to Ashville several times and love it. It’s kinda a quaint, hippy, artistic little town with lots of outdoor stuff to do and the Biltmore is impressive if you are into seeing magnificent huge houses (and wine tasting)!
Meg says
I’m so, so sorry you have to go through this on what’s supposed to be the most amazing week of your life! You are such an inspirational person for taking it the way you are – SO positively, something that everyone needs to learn how to do. I feel like people just complain and sulk so much when life goes “wrong”, and look at the way you’ve taken this – calmly and looking for other options…amen sister! 🙂 I’m sure everything will work out, and you’ll find a great place to spend time with Ryan, and a one year anniv. trip to St. Lucia sounds like a plan 😀
Enjoy your day, Julie!

From Orlando, if I had to make a last-minute trip, I’d probably go to the Bahamas. It’s fairly inexpensive, as an added bonus… the diving isn’t awesome, but it’s not bad.

My boyfriend and I go to Puerto Rico all the time as he has some land there. Before the first time I went I wasn’t that stoked…now I look forward to it all the time. I HIGHLY recommend staying in Rincon, PR…it is on the other side of the island from San Juan. (You could still check out San Juan..it’s like a 3 hour drive over there).
But Rincon is less touristy, gorgeous beaches, super laid back and you can go a bit inland and do zip lining, etc.
Stay at Fish Eye View…and tell them Heather & Brett sent you. Awesome place to stay!

Sarah says
If you’re strongly considering NC mountains, look into Cashiers. Its a cute little mountain town with lots of nice restaurants, hiking, shopping, etc. My fam has cabins up there and I’ve been going since I was little…and it’s beautiful this time of year! There’s a really nice “resort” called High Hampton Inn that would be great for a honeymoon. They have spa services, golf, and other fun stuff to do.
Another thing to check out is Travel Zoo. They have really great deals on all types of trips…flights, hotels, cruise, in and out of the country.
Whatever ya’ll choose, you’ll have fun because you’re married! Wooo!
Hayley says
Italy for sure! It’s amazing and you guys would have a great time.
Javiera says
Hi, Julie! I’m from Chile (so, i’m not a english native please understand what i’m writting! ahaha) I read your blog since a couple of months and I love it, CONGRATULATIONS for your wedding!! but, first of all, what do you want to do in your honeymoon? Italy and Paris sounds great but I don’t know how is the weather there, if it too cold. For a fast honeymoon destinations i would say Cuba, Costa Rica or Brasil (Brasil is so amaizing!!) you have very good weather, a lot outdoors activities like hiking, snorkeling, diving, etc. I would go to Salvador de Bahía, in the north of the country.
My country also is great, we have desert and ice mountains! but, I repeat, depends in what are you looking for the honeymoon.
or, Cartagena de Indias in Colombia!
Good luck with the search!
Laura @ Meet Virginia says
Julie, I just have to tell you how much I admire your positive attitude! It seems that you haven’t had the best luck from getting sick to having to re-plan your honeymoon, but you have stayed so positive and upbeat. Good for you, girl!
I live in NC, and my family vacations in the mountains pretty often. I guess its not the “typical” honeymoon spot, but they do have some beautiful resorts and bed and breakfasts! Plus, it sure would be cozy now that the temperature is dropping. 🙂 Good luck!
Jordan P says
I’d probably choose the cruise, much like many other commenters! They have the excursions so you can do the adventures you two are interested in, plus lots of downtime to relax in the pool or get massages. Plus, they take care of the food/planning for you!
Anna says
Italy! You will never regret it. Rome is fantastic. If you want something more relaxing and dont want to feel like you have to go, go, go to see all the sights, try Cinque Terre (on the coast), the Amalfi Coast or Lake Como. You CAN plan this in 48 hours and will make the most amazing memories there!
Erin says
I live in NC and recommend Asheville. You could go to Biltmore and take a tour of the mansion, grounds, and vineyard (they have wine tasting too). You could stay at the estate or a number of beautiful inns and bed and breakfasts. I recently stayed at the Grove Park Inn. My husband and I did a couples massage at their spa. The scenery is breathtaking– especially at this time of year. Plus, they have a KILLER breakfast buffet! 🙂 If you have any questions, feel free to email. Charleston is also amazing too. The restaurants there are to die for. We took a private carriage ride. You can ask the driver anything and everything, and it is very romantic!
peanutbutterfingers says
what a gorgeous hotel!
Erin says
It really is beautiful. There are two sides to it– the historic side (which has a ghost story associated with it) and the new side. We got a couples package, and it was great! They even have a huge gym facility/sports complex with daily exercise classes. Plus, there are some beautiful art galleries and jazz clubs in the little surrounding towns.
Hilary (Red Head, Yellow Dog) says
my parents moved to asheville while i was in college and I am obsessed with that place. it’s amazing! so much beautiful stuff to do and a cute downtown to walk around. love it.

PR! Just went to puerto rico last feb and their is tons to do! You can snorkel, walk through the rainforest, be tourist in old san juan, or beach it! Also, very common to take sail boat out for the day and go to smaller islands for snorkling and lunch, their are so many options! It is also so close to florida- we stayed at marriott which was nice- get a ocean view room- great swim up bar! let me know if you have questions and good luck 🙂 lov the blog
Amanda says
travelzoo.com – there is a “travel deals” tab at the top that usually has a bunch of tropical/european/etc last-minute deals! Happy Honeymooning 🙂
Tracy says
I’d stick to the US or the Caribbean for planning a trip/honeymoon in 48 hours. I believe a lot more planning goes into going far out of the country like Europe and you won’t to be well prepared on such short notice. I think the idea of Charleston is great, although for a week honeymoon which I imagine is what you are doing… you may get bored? If you still want to have an adventurous honeymoon, take a look at Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Key West, Miami, San Francisco, San Diego, Scottsdale…. I also think cruises are great last minute getaways. They have wonderful destinations these days, and you will be able to relax, be romantic and adventurous. The best of luck deciding!
Katie says
Charleston, SC is my favorite city in the states! There are so many fun things to do there and the aquarium is so pretty! If you do go there, I highly recommend eating at Hominy Grill (featured on Man V Food). Their shrimp and grits are to die for! 🙂
Shanna, Like Banana says
Because I live in Cali, I’d jet to Cabo because it’s a short flight and pure bliss 😉
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
Cruises are great, especially since you are already in Florida! It might be easy to book. I have to say it though – my favorite place on Earth is Aruba! My husband and I got married there and go every year with my family! Oh and bonus – they NEVER get hurricanes!
Amanda (Eating Up) says
What is Maine like this time of the year? Also, the northern West Coast is beautiful, I know. Driving from San Fran to Oregon would be a great trip, plus you can go to a lot of vineyards and breweries!
Sana says
Out of those options, the easiest to plan for is definitely new york even if you’ve never been….there’s just a ton to do here, the hotels are gorgeous and the shopping and food is awesome. If you’ve already been, I would skip the touristy stuff like times square and go to the Village, visit Brooklyn, visit museums etc.
Italy sounds like an amazing honeymoon destination though so if you can plan it out in 48 hrs I would totally do it.
Heather says
Costa Rica or Belize!
janae @ hungryrunnergirl.com says
I love cold oatmeal!!! If I had to plan a honeymoon in 48 hours and money wasn’t an object I would definitely go to Greece!! Good luck!! No matter where you go you will have an amazing time!
ashley says
Me and my husband went to NYC on our honeymoon 3 years ago in December. We loved it!!!! If you do go, I highly recommend the Hilton New York. It is a great hotel and is close to everything!!! They even have a package where you add about $10/night and it includes daily buffet breakfast for you both (which is $20p/p if you do breakfast by itself!!) It is a real money saver and the buffet is super yummy! Where can you get a yummy breakfast for $10 for 2 ppl in NYC???? 🙂 GOOD LUCK!!
Giana says
48 hours…first thing I would think or is a warm romantic island where you can seat back & relax together on the beach. Second thing that comes to mind is somewhere in Europe, if your thinking about Italy you should definitely look into Positano or the Amalfi Coast. I visited both and they are breathe taking & would be an amazing honeymoon. Theres so much to do beautiful scenary, beaches, amazing resturants, snorkling, boat ride to the island of Capri. The list goes on and on 🙂 48 hours really is crunch time! Good Luck!
Gracie (complicated day) says
I couldn’t do a cruise since the hubby gets seasick, but the deals right now are out of this world. Practically free.
Melissa says
First off, congrats!!! With regards to honeymoon location, NYC is good choice (being a native manhattenite I am bias), but with the marathon on sunday, hotels and flights might be on the pricer side through tuesday. What about looking into Mexico – Cancun is actually really nice and you could do a day trip to some of the Mayan ruins like Tulum; or there is Cozumel or the Riveria locations. I would also look into Turks and Cacios – my bf and I took a cruise back in May that stopped there an it was by far one of our favorite places. St. Thomas, St. Maartin, St. John, any of those islands are beautiful, but am not sure if they got hit by the hurrican. If you are willing to travel a little bit further Aruba is suppose to be amazing (I am hoping to go there next year). Check out last minute vacations and travelocity’s cruise sites for some bargins.
Alexis says
Scranton, PA! haha JK. go to San Diego.
Ashley says
Just got back two weeks ago from a trip to Puerto Rico with the boyfriend. If you end up going this route and need suggestions feel free to contact me! There are great things to do in PR.

Julie,
I would try something on the West coast, its far enough away from Florida, but not as far as Italy. Easy to plan, rather than dealing with international issues. San Fransisco is a really romantic city. There is also tons to do and see….as much as you guys love the water, you could go sail out on the bay under the Golden Gate.
Or, maybe try Seattle. Cozy, rainy, and beautiful. Perfect for snuggling inside or taking an adventure hike!
Good luck. It will all work out!
Amanda B says
NC Mountains are beautiful but I am a bit biased as an NC gal myself!
I know an amazing B&B in Folly Beach which is 10 minutes outside of Charleston…very romantic too. 🙂 My boyfriend and I went there in March and had the absolute best time! Also Charleston has some of the best food ever! 😀 Magnolias shrimp, lobster scallops and grits. Also SNOB… lol… slightly north of broad has amazing food too.
Other cool things we did was of course all the historic sight seeing and we went horseback ridding at Middleton Place which was cool too.

how CUTE is that hotel!?
Amanda B says
We stayed in the Atlantic room… it was beautiful and directly overlooks the marsh. Also all the staff is amazing! Happy hour from 5-7 😉
Amanda Davis says
I think I would try to find a nice hotel somewhere by the beach to just go and relax for the honeymoon or maybe finding a vacation rental
Emily says
I saw Hawaii! Or somewhere in the Caribbean 🙂
Jamie @ Food in Real Life says
I’d go to Mexico. It’s super easy to plan last minute and affordable vacations there. I stayed here and loved it.
