Maybe it’s because I was born in April (April showers bring May flowers, after all), but I’ve never minded rainy weather. Something about the pitter patter of rain drops on a rooftop and the cloudy skies make me feel comfortable and relaxed.
Plus, whenever it rains, I get to sing my “Ducks Like Rain” song to Ryan.
Ducks like rain,
Ducks like rain,
Ducks like to widdle wobble in the rain
Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack…
(Anyone else know that song? If you’re in the mood to learn this totally fun and 100 percent obnoxious song to sing when it’s rainy outside, click here! )
Though I like the rain, little Miss Sadie does not. When it’s raining outside that means she can’t do any of this…
… and that makes her very frustrated, so she puts all of her energy into annoying me and Ryan. It’s a treat! 😀
Dinner
Since we couldn’t take Sadie on a walk after work today, we enjoyed an early dinner. I prepared broiled salmon and roasted Brussels sprouts (Yes, they actually were Brussels sprouts this time… Great catch last night to quite a few of you!), while Ryan chased Sadie around the apartment.
I really need to take a video of Ryan when he messes with Sadie. They both run circles around this one wall, trying to sneak up on each other. It’s hilarious and Sadie’s getting pretty good at it!
Within 15 minutes our dinner was ready for eatin’.
The fish looks burnt, but it was just really crispy on the top. The fish itself was really tender and moist.
Before broiling the salmon, I seasoned it with a spice blend we received from Ryan’s dad a while ago.
The spiced added a nice sweet flavor to the savory salmon.
Now I’m off to make myself a mug of hot chocolate and do some wedding-related tasks. These wedding to-dos seem to keep piling up! I guess that’s what happens when you’re just about a month out from the big day!
Question of the Evening
Do you like rain?
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
I love rainy days… especially when we go so long without them… but I agree, rainy day vizslas are the worst… although I get a pretty good laugh when Koda starts running around in circles like a crazy dog and can’t keep traction and rams into walls… is that mean? It’s not like she gets hurt… 😉
Arlene @ Adventures in Weight Loss says
I need to get me some brussels sprouts. Everyone seems to be cooking them these days, and they look delicious. I haven’t made any for years.
Melissa says
I love that song! Will be spending the rest of the night learning it. 🙂 I like the rain once in a while–it’s a great excuse to get cozy on the couch & laze around.
BIOCHEMISTA says
I love rainy days. You can find me on the couch, wrapped in my favorite robe (over pjs is my style) with a huge mug of tea. Oh and biscotti 🙂
Claire says

christina cadden says
I love the rain!
Jen says
Being it’s my first year living in Florida – YES, I love the rain especially during the 90+ degree temps…..always welcoming!!
Mary Beth says
Rain in Florida–yes because it is a nice break from the sun all the time!
And I love 5 spice powder! Great idea on salmon 🙂
Kristy @ KristyRuns says
I can’t believe you only have about a month ’til your wedding! So exciting! 🙂
Haha! My husband and our dog do the same thing! They chase each other in circles around the house, from room to room, trying to sneak up on each other. I love to sit back and watch/laugh!
Jessica @ How Sweet says
Sometimes I love rain… if I’m just in a relaxing mood. 🙂
Amanda Davis says
I absolutely love the rain…especially the smell!
Lauren says
Hmm, I was born in April and I hate the rain. Maybe I need to sing the duck song more often. 🙂
Lynn says
I like rain, but I like cute little ducks more 🙂 Seriously though, I love a warm rain as lung as there isn’t any lightening.
Oh, that seasoning looks like it might be good, especially with five spices mixed together
Gavi @ GaviGetsGoing! says
I can’t believe you know that song!! I taught kindergarten last year, and I sang it with my kids every time it rained. They would put on these awesome yellow slickers and boots and quack along with the song. Such wonderful memories! I love the rain, especially when I’m running. Enjoy your evening!
Lisa says
I love salmon. I could eat that everyday! Do you eat wild? Make sure that you choose wild, not farmed, because farmed is filled with dyes and chemicals! Its really bad!
Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat says
I love to watch the rain. When I was little, my dad and I would sit in the garage (with the garage door open) and watch the rain storms. Now, I don’t like the rain as much, because it means I have to run on the treadmill that day!
Nicole (Picky Nicky) says
I have a big bag of brussel sprouts in the fridge that I was going to steam but now I think I’ll broil them. Your recipes always look delicious and super simple! My kind of food 😀
Take care,
Nicole
Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) says
When I’m inside at home, I love the rain. I love curling up in bed/on the couch with hot tea or soup. When I have to run errands and it’s raining….that’s another story!
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
There’s nothing like a dark, dismal rainy day…once in a while!
Sarah K. @ The Pajama Chef says
I do NOT like rain. 🙁 I hate getting wet. I suppose some of it is because I’m in school again and I hate having to walk in it and sit in it… but if I can cuddle up at home then I’m a-ok with rain!
Anna Walker says
I LOVE RAIN! 🙂
maria @ Chasing the Now says
I do until I have to walk in it, and then we are not friends anymore. When I first got my driver’s license I loved driving around with the windows down when it rained lightly. Good memories!
Bee Goes Bananas says
That salmon looks delicious! I ran out of ideas of how to cook it, but this is a great idea.
I can’t believe you’re getting married in almost a month!!!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
It’s been rainy up here for 2 days in New York…I love the rain when I don’t have to go out in it and can stay cuddled up inside, on my couch, in my sweats, with a warm mug of coffee and some great movies…
Otherwise rain is pretty BLAH in my book! 🙂
maria says
i love rain! but now i live in san francisco where it never rains, just drizzles. or the fog gets so low you get wet walking in it. which is not as cool as it sounds
Amber K says
I’m from Oregon. I don’t think I’m allowed to dislike it… LOL!
Marie says
I love rain when I’m inside & love what it does for our trees and lawn but hate being out in the rain. Plus, it can go from rain to flood real quick in Houston.
My husband does the same with our dog. He also hides from him a lot. It’s really funny and cute to see him running all over in search of his Daddy. BTW, I have never had Brussel sprouts before & went searching for some because you make them look SO good! I didn’t have any luck finding it, though. 🙁
Chelsea at Striking Balance says
I don’t really like the rain, but I’ve learned to not hate it, at least. I live in Vancouver, Canada, where it basically rains every day, so I’ve come to appreciate it a little bit. As long as your are prepared with an umbrella and rain boots, you’re good to go 🙂
Jess says
I don’t really like rain…it just makes me feel a little down and I just want to crawl back into bed 🙂
carlee says
hahaha! that song! it truly is annoying! i’ll have to learn it though cuz it makes me laugh! and there is no much to the lyrics! haha.
and i tried that tuna, spinach salad! so simple…but so yummy!
erica says
i love the rain! (just as long as i’m not stuck in it without and umbrella!) something about being indoors all cozy and warm….
Lauren @ 40Apples says
Your salmon looks soooo good!
Growing up in the Northwest, I am practically made of rain… so no, I don’t mind it. Although it kinda sucks to have to walk a lot in it (which living in NYC necessitates. boo :p )
Katie says
Love the rain! It’s a great excuse to be lazy!! When we go for week-long trips to the beach, we always pray for just one rainy day. It makes you feel less guilty for wanting to stay inside and watch movies and stay in your jamis until it’s bedtime again!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
That’s such a cool pic of Sadie!! I love the rain, but only if I don’t have to go outside. There’s nothing worse than getting to class drenched!!
Also…I just read your last post with the tuna salad. Have you ever tried replacing the mayo with hummus? It sounds weird, but it adds SO MUCH awesome flavor!!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
i LOOOOOOOOOOVE rain! and it hardly ever rains here…but when it does i am a very happy girl 🙂
krista says
I have a 2 year old so am VERY familiar with the duck song! And now it’s stuck in my head, thanks. 😉
Marina says
I like rain when I’m inside, under a warm blanket, with a nice cup of tea or coffee.
Sadie looks like she’s in warp speed :))
AllieNic @ Frisky Lemon says
I sometimes like the rain…when it’s in the summer and it’s warm. My sister and I used to run outside in torrential downpours and get soaking wet…and muddy! Rain in the fall/winter is a huge downer…all that ice and cold…
Erika @ Food, Fitness, & Fun says
I was born in April too! 🙂 My opinion on the rain varys with the temperature. If it is nice and cool outside I like the rain, but if it is hot and humid I do not. 😕
Liz @ Blog is the New Black says
Great post! Right now I have aching calves so I am just resting and being mindful of what I put in my body!!
