After work today I loaded up my car and hit the road for St. Pete. I threw my weekend duffel bag, Sadie’s food, two bags of random items/clothes for Good Will and two warm jackets in the backseat.
In the passenger’s seat sat my furry navigator. Thank goodness I already knew my way, because whenever I’d ask Sadie where I should turn, she would just wag her tail and try to climb in my lap.
Some navigator, huh?
Sadie is actually my exact opposite when it comes to being the passenger on long car rides. Riding in a car for more than 40 minutes puts me in an almost hypnotic state and I pass out and can sleep without a problem.
Sadie, on the other hand, thinks it is her job to stare down every single car that drives by.
Luckily traffic wasn’t too bad and we made it to my parents’ house in less than two hours.
My family and I spent the evening catching up around the dinner table.
I didn’t want to keep whipping out my camera, but I honestly think I had four times that serving size… maybe five? I’m a sucker for cheese and noodles as it is, but when it’s my mom’s homemade lasagna, I can’t resist.
Dessert was a large bowl of peppermint ice cream.
Home = Comfort food to the max!
I think Sadie was feeling awfully comfortable at my parent’s’ house, too.She loved cuddlin’ up to Mr. Bob! (My dad is “Mr. Bob” to Sadie because he’s not quite ready to be “Grandpa” just yet.
You should know that my mom happily refers to herself as Sadie’s “grandmama.” I love it.)
And now it’s time to get some rest. It feels so, so good to be home. (I haven’t been home since Christmas!) I miss my family so much and can never stay away too long!
Goodnight!
It’s amazing how Sadie isn’t at the wheel in the car 😀 I always thought driving with animals is an impossible mission.
Enjoy the time with your parents!
Aw I love going home to visit my parents, and it looks like you do too! 🙂
Oh and my Dad just got remarried, and my stepmom has grandbabies already and he almost had a heart attack when he was first called “Grandpa Harry”! He’s okay with it now, as long as the grandchild in question does not belong to me (yet)!
What are you doing giving your old clothes to Goodwill?! Give them to meeeee! 😀
Have a nice weekend being home!
Ooh, mom’s homemade lasagnas are always the best!! I can’t help put laugh at the thought of driving by your car on the highway; cute young gal on the drivers side, and a wild, smilin’ visla on the other! <3 it!! Have a great time with your family!
I always go straight to the fridge when I go home…there’s always treats that I dont keep so I have to take advantage! Have a great time with the fam!
Lasagna is the ultimate comfort food. Enjoy time with your family! As much as I love living in California, I miss my parents back in Nebraska. I’m jealous of people who live close to their relatives!
awwww SADIEE is ADORABLe and she is sucha sweet pup!! nothing like comfort food.. ahh have fun!!
Your dog is so cute! My boyfriend’s dog is named ‘Sadie’ as well. Hope u have a good weekend 🙂
Enjoy your family time Julie! My parents live in St. Pete too, so whenever I see that you go, it makes me miss it so much! Please go walk on the pier for me! haha
How awesome that you could have family time!
That lasagna looks amazing!
It’s good to be home! WHy does comfort food always taste so good when you are home? Enjoy your stay this weekend.
Your family is beautiful, especially Sadie! I love weekend road trips!!!
love Sadie’s expressions!! Glad you made it home safe and sound.
Awwww have fun! My family’s in St. Pete, too! …although it’s an 8 hour drive from Atlanta for me. 🙁
I love that your dad wants to be Mr. Bob to Sadie!!!
Hey Julie!
Sadie looks so adorable propped on Mr. Bob’s lap! Haha.
I think it would be really great for you to do a post on living far from your family (why you decided to move, the pros/cons, etc.). What do you think?
Love,
Heather
can you expand on this idea a bit? i’m not sure exactly what you’re looking for. i moved to FL with my family right after i graduated high school (of course i wanted to, but also, if i didn’t. at 18 i also would’ve been homeless!).
aw i love going home too – i always revert to being a child and feel all pathetic and helpless, i love it!! have a fun weekend 🙂
Awe! I love your sweet little pup!
My family lives 2,000 miles away. You’re so lucky 🙂
Awww Mr. Bob. My brother and his wife have the dinkiest little dog known to man (it weighs 5 pounds fully grown) and you should see my dad sitting on the floor cuddling with it. He loves being a dog grandpa.
Your comment about your dad being Mr. Bob reminds me of my grandfather who was also named Bob. I don’t think he cared what he was called, but my brother (the first grandchild in the family) started calling him “Daddy Bob” because everyone either called him Daddy (my mom and our aunts/uncles) or Bob (everyone else). It stuck and his friends even started calling him Daddy Bob! Just an idea… maybe your dad will like it better than a granddad-type title.
I LOVE road trips with my dog, Ernest. They are they best passengers =) Have a good weekend! Looking forward to bootcamp next week!
That lasagna looks so good! Even now, at 8:30 in the morning.. haha!
What a fun roadtrip with Sadie! Your mom’s lasagna looks incredible! There is nothing like mom’s cooking! I love it. 🙂 Have fun with your family!!
Aww…I’m glad your family is close and that you can visit them fairly often. My mom always makes her famous lasagna when my sister and I are home. She made up the recipe all by herself and it’s pretty unconventional, but it’s so delicious. YUM! Have fun with the fam!!
Sadie is so cute with her sweater on!
Jason’s brother has 2 dogs and my mother in law happily refers to them as her “granddoggers” 🙂
At least Sadie just stares down the other cars passing by… my dog barks and barks and barks at them. Enjoy your time at home! 🙂
Im the same way…i am way to comfortable at home when i can get back which isnt often, and for some reason my diet goes to the wayside and indulge…my mother is also an amazing cook, and with soo much food that isnt usally in my kitchen i tend to just drive head first into over indulgence! Enjoy the weekend
I used to hate going home (I was the “too cool for home” college student my first 2 years of college), but now I love it. I think that now that I’m 2 years into college, it doesn’t bother me anymore. 😀
I love doggy passengers! Reddick is the best and does the same exact thing. The other day he stared down a cop…who didn’t really look too pleased that my dog was in the front seat without his seatbelt, but I mean, come on, he couldn’t be mad for that long. Reddick’s face will warm anyone’s heart. haha
oh i love lasagna! i think i need to make my mom’s recipe asap!
I LOVE SADIE.
Oh, Sadie is so adorable!!!! Have fun with your family this weekend!
My mom calls my dogs here “grand puppies” and I love it! 🙂
Enjoy being with your family!
Closeups of pupster snouts are pretty much the best thing ever :]
Oh that’s nice, and love your “furry navigator”! I am going home this weekend too, my parent’s are hosting a party tomorrow night, I’m excited to raid their pantry (!), see friends and my kitty (!) and relax a little too! 😀
Soooo sweet! Happy does the same thing.. she tries (and I admit, sometimes succeeds at) getting in my lap while I’m driving. It’s way cute. She just wants to be close to her momma! And i guess the passenger seat just doesn’t cut it… ha!
Hope you have a great time!! 🙂
I feel the same way when I go visit my parents. I get to relax and eat yummy food the whole time! love it!
There are not many things in life that make me happier than pictures of Sadie. When the time comes, I am getting one of my own!! Her little outfits – sweaters? shirts? – just kill me with their cuteness. Thank you for always posting them!!
Too cute! My mom calls my cat Tiger her grandkitty!
Sadie is ridiculous ( in an amazing way!) I LOVE EVERYTHING about her she is SO adorable
