After the work day was over, I resisted the urge to plop my booty on the couch and take in several episodes of Glee. Instead I got a much-needed haircut ($5.99 at Great Clips, baby!) and then Ryan and I entertained Sadie with a trip to the dog park.
It felt good to be out and about and Sadie was happy to be at the park with her complete family. Though I think Sadie still has a good time when just she and I go to the park, there’s no denying that Ryan has the better arm for fetch… and she knows this.
At least she knows she can come to me for cuddles!
Plan B Dinner
As Ryan, Sadie and I drove home from the park, I told Ryan about a new recipe I was excited to try involving haddock, a type of white fish. Unfortunately when we arrived back to our apartment, I realized I forgot to lay out the fish to thaw. Dinner fail.
Since we were too hungry to wait, we enjoyed grilled Aidell’s chicken and apple smoked sausage with roasted kale, cauliflower and broccoli instead.
Not a bad plan b dinner!
Blogger Conferences
Before signing off for the night, I have a couple of fun announcements to share!
Healthy Living Summit
First, in August, I will be traveling to Philadelphia for the Healthy Living Summit (my first-ever blogger conference!) where I will be joining three fellow bloggers (Brittany, Courtney and Heather) to participate in a panel about the negative side of blogging… how to handle negative comments, mean-spirited emails, snarky tweats and media backlash. I promise to try to say something more valuable than “kick the haters in the shins.” I’m a little nervous about public speaking, but I’m even more excited about meeting some fantastic people! Healthy Living Summit tickets go on sale tonight at 8 p.m. Last year they sold out within 20 minutes, so get ‘em while they’re hot!
Urban Running: Blogger Summit
In early December, I will be traveling to Las Vegas (Vegas, baby!) to speak at the Urban Running: Blogger Summit, an event organized by the amazing and hysterical SkinnyRunner. I will be speaking about blogging and a whole bunch of blogging-related subtopics. I’m already nervous just thinking about it, but can’t wait to put together a presentation… and party it up in Vegas. I may also be running the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas half marathon in conjunction with this trip!
That’s all for now, folks.
Off to watch The Bachelorette and throw things at the TV whenever Bentley gets any face time.
Sarah says
Pretty sweet lookin’ Plan B Dinner! Congrats on speaking at the conference! You’ll be fantastic
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
That sounds delicious anyway!
And good luck!
Amanda @ The Beauty Notebooks says
I can’t wait to meet you at HLS!! Wish our vizslas could meet too 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
Aw I wish it was dog friendly!
Molly says
I can only eat bonfire hot dogs. That conference will be sooo fun!.. Sadie and Ryan will be attached at the hip again.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Congrats on speaking at both events! I wish I could attend HLS this year but it’s the same weekend as a bridal shower for a wedding I’m in. Hopefully next year!
The Healthy Engineer says
I’d LOVE to go to the Vegas one…but I don’t think school would be out by then, I’m not much of a hardcore runner, and I’m not old enough to completely enjoy Vegas 🙁
Alisa @ Running with Knives says
I love those chicken sausages. I eat at least one a week. Also, I’m glad you call it roasted kale and not kale chips. I don’t know who decided that roasted kale makes a good substitute for a chip, because it doesn’t. You can’t dip them and they crumble not crunch when you bite them! They are the worst chips ever. BUT they are a great roasted veggie! Stepping off the soapbox now.
peanutbutterfingers says
Haha! I totally agree.
Khushboo says
I wish I was able to attend HLS, it’s just too far! I’m sure you are going to rock the panel. Once it’s over, do you think you could do a similar post on the topic?
Amanda says
I’m looking into running Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas. I’ve done San Diego a few times and love it!
Brittany says
So excited about our panel and to meet you in August! Yippee!
peanutbutterfingers says
Me too!! It’s gonna be a blast!
alex says
awesome Julie! I’m doing the Rock ‘n’ Roll 1/2 here in Seattle on the 25th and have considered the Vegas run a few times! Good luck with all your conferences!
Amber Faye @ One "Faye" At A Time says
I live in SLC, maybe I will make the trip down to Vegas to see you speak! It’s only about a 6 hour drive. Please keep us updated! I’m sure you will be fabulous at both! 🙂
Tichina says
Haha I was just about to make the underwear comment too! I’ve always been a singer and doing this at various competitions would only make me laugh if anything lol. What works for me is glancing around the room looking at the “tops” of their heads, not straight at their faces, just until I loosen up a bit! Julie just remember, as someone else said, they already want you there and will love you no matter what!
Kaitlyn @ 7 Plates says
That sounds like so much fun! Speaking in public makes me nervous too, but pretend they’re all in their underwear. (Ok, people always say that to me and it doesn’t help.. and it’s creepy, lol).
Grace says
I was thinking about going to HLS but I realized school starts the Monday after and I couldn’t imagine a worst way to start off my senior year than missing my 7:30 am class that is taught by the head of my department…so I backed out:( I’ll have to look into the Urban Running one though!
Laura says
oh wow, what a brilliant topic.
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
I wish I could go to BOTH conferences; unfortunately, I don’t think they’re in my plans this year. Can’t wait to hear all about ’em 🙂
Babs says
It’s funny that you mention such a cheap hair cut. Today at work I heard two girls talking about getting their hair done . . . one paid 180 for a trim and highlights that you couldn’t even see!
Gen says
I hate it when I forget to get something out to thaw…..sounds like plan b was pretty tasty, though! 😀
Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes says
Both of those blogging conferences sound amazing. It must feel so grreat to be involved in both of them.
Sarah says
I suddenly have the biggest craving for a hotdog, that looks so delicious!
Good luck with speaking on the panel 🙂
Cait's a Runnerchick says
huge congrats on your speaking events!
glee, okay i didn’t get into at first, but my sister kept raving about it and so i started watching a few episodes and now i’m totally hooked! love it, but it makes me wish i could sing at least semi-onkey…but alas.
now, i’m usually not even tempted to try a hotdog, but those pictures actually make me want to try one. those suckers look tasty!
Hope says
Congrats on both speaking events!! I am actually not attending the HLS but I would totally love to meet up for food or drinks! I live right outside of Philly! Definitely keep me updated on meet-ups! I’d love to meet you!! 🙂
Bethany RN says
LOVE LOVE LOVE that you are speaking at these events. I am trying to go to Vegas. Congratulations! Have a great day Julie!
Ali @ Ali Runs says
I love all of your pictures of Sadie! They make my day! 😉 Ps–congrats about those speaking opportunities!!
Amber K says
I’m sure you will do great with speaking! I can’t wait to hear the recaps of these events. I can never afford to travel for such things, but I still love learning a lot!
Aron says
So excited for Vegas and to get to meet all you guys and be a part of it! It’s going to be a blast 🙂
Jenny @ loveeatrun says
So excited you will be in Vegas too (especially since I’m missing Healthy Living Summit – boo)!!! Definitely do the half! I just signed up for it too 🙂
Ashley says
I am so excited that you’re going to be speaking at the summit in Vegas in December!! I saw who was speaking and was pretty excited about it but not fully committed to going, but once I saw that you’re going to be there, I’m definitely going. =) I’ve been loving your blog ever since I found it a while ago, and I’m super excited to meet you in person!! My boyfriend and I are going to run the half as well – get in some exercise to counteract whatever bad things we eat (and drink) while we’re there =)
