After such a fun day on Saturday at the Southeast Produce Council’s Southern Exposure Conference, the rest of my weekend ended up shaping up very well, too!
I can’t complain when Saturday night includes a homemade dinner by my mom.
Bring on the crab legs and mussels!
One of my all-time favorite meals!
And then breakfast this morning kept the good food going.
I loaded up my plate with pecan pancakes, topped with banana slices, syrup and granola.
My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach and I couldn’t finish off the pancakes, but I made it through two and a half and all of the banana slices before throwing in the towel and passing off my plate to Sadie.
Ryan and I spent the morning at my parents’ house lounging around, making walnut oatmeal date balls and soaking up quality family time. While my dad worked out and my mom slept in, Ryan and I were able to cram in a good hour of early-morning reading.
I usually read only at night before bed, so a lazy Sunday morning filled with several chapters of Open, the biography of tennis great Andre Agassi, was a treat!
For those of you who asked me about this book, I am about three-quarters of the way through and am really, really enjoying it so far. Though I’m not a tennis player myself, my dad played tennis when I was growing up and I remember watching numerous matches on TV as he rooted for his favorite players. Despite my lack of general tennis knowledge, I find myself enthralled by the book! I don’t think you need to be a huge tennis fan to find Andre Agassi’s story interesting. (If any of you have any other biographies you’d recommend, please let me know!)
Ryan and I wanted to get back to Ocala before it was too late and with smoothies to fuel the car ride home, we were off!
Once we arrived home, we leashed up Sadie and headed out to the nearby hiking trails to cover two miles.
And now we’re back home, getting ready to cook dinner and spend the rest of our Sunday relaxing.
Enjoy your Sunday night!

Wow, your breakfast looks amazing! Somehow my eyes are almost always bigger than my stomach when it comes to breakfast foods. especially when someone else has prepared them. I’m sure Sadie was happy to help you out, though 🙂 I love the smoothies for the car ride – fun!
Presley @ Run Pretty says
I had crab legs last night, too! I could be vegetarian if it weren’t for seafood. So daggum good!

Have you read Tina Fey’s book, Bossypants? It’s hilarious! Love her!
Mae says
“Days of Grace” by Arthur Ashe (also a tennis player, coincidentally) is a great book. “Three Cups of Tea” is good too. It’s non-fiction, but not exactly a biography.
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
Sounds like a great Sunday! I haven’t had crabs in forever – too long!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Those pancakes look absolutely delicious! I bet Sadie sure enjoyed your leftovers!
Lena @Fit on the Rocks says
I love fun, relaxing Sundays curled up with a good book and food. Your mom’s meal of crab legs and mussels looks sooo good. I love a good seafood dinner!
Emily Jones says
I love the autobiographies “Marathon Woman” by Kathrine Switzer, first woman to run with an official bib in the Boston Marathon and “Determined to Win” by Jean Discoll – born with spina bifida and multiple time winner of Boston Marathon wheelchair division! Both always inspire to train harder for marathons!
Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries says
I’m reading Jaycee Dugard’s memoir “A Stolen Life” right now. It is extremely intense and graphic (probably not the best “blog book club” choice) but I highly recommend it!
Silvia @ skinny jeans food says
“Open” is great — the audiobook is even better because it is read by Andre Agassi himself, gives it an added dimension…
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
Such a nice and relaxing weekend! Sounds really nice~:) And I always wondered! How do you guys (or your mom) cook the mussels?!! I eat them quite often, but in your pictures they always seem to be steamed or boiled? Do you flavor them? 😀 I’m getting all excited now haha.
Beth says
Not a tennis player either, but I flew through “Open!” His story was just really interesting and I totally loved the parts with Stefi – you’ll want to watch his retirement speech again afterward. So good.
Sana says
I played tennis almost my entire life! Sucha fun sport!

Those pancakes look so yummy! Sadie is a lucky girl. =)
I just finished reading “Bitter is the New Black : Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass,Or, Why You Should Never Carry A Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office” by Jen Lancaster. It took me several chapters to get into it, but I ended up really liking it.
Taylor @ greens & chocolate says
OMG those pancakes look amazing!!
Michelle (Better with Berries) says
Tina Fey’s autobiography is hilarious! It’s also a pretty quick read.
Sara @ The Foodie Diaries says
Sounds like a great weekend with plenty of good foodies 🙂 There’s nothing I want more than crab legs right now!
Carolyn says
I agree with the others saying that Tina Fey’s Bossypants is hilarious and a good quick read. I just finished Rob Lowe’s autobiography ‘Stories I Only Tell My Friends’ and even though I dont remember a lot of the shows and movies he was in when he was a kid (before I was born lol) I thought it was a very interesting books. He’s got great stories!
Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed says
I want some crab legs, jealous! Hope you had a nice Sunday 🙂

The Andre Agassi autobiography is so good! Some others I enjoyed, too, are:
On the Line by Serena Williams
Zero Regrets by Apolo Ohno (LOVED this one!)
Age is Just a Number by Dara Torres
Unbearable Lightness by Portia de Rossi
Alyssa says
Sounds like a great day!
I’m so curious, how do you read a book together? Do you take turns reading chapters? Pages? Or do you prefer books on tape and just listen together?
Khushboo Thadani says
Crab legs and pancakes…I need to come to your mommas place!
Marilyn says
I loved the biography of Steve Jobs that was released shortly after his death. He collaborated with the author, so I felt I was reading his own words.
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
Sounds like a great weekend! 🙂 Those pancakes look amazing! It looks like they were from a restaurant! Do you have the recipe?
Heather @ Run Eat Play says

Megan @ FoodieCycles says
mmmm… crab legs!
if you think you’re going through something you just can’t get through- the most inspiring, motivating book I have read is Lance Armstrong- It’s not about the Bike. Give it a read.. you won’t be disappointed!
Kim says
does your mom broil and season the crab legs? they look like they have some kind of seasoning on the outside.
Krista says
I am reading the Steve Jobs biography right now. It’s great! Even if you don’t use a lot of Apple products, he was such a pioneer with a different way of thinking about things.
Also, this makes me want seafood ASAP.
Meg says
You HAVE to read Lance Armstrong’s… It’s amazing! It’s called “It’s not about the Bike”.
Kim @ The Family Practice says
I love crab! That’s what I’ll miss the most this spring/summer not living on the coast. We used to take the boat out a few times a week to go crabbing 🙂
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
I’m so jealous of how often you get to see your family! My folks wont allow dogs inside their house, so it makes it difficult for us to go see them overnight because we have to find somewhere for Sadie to stay.
Jen says
If you’re looking for an excellent memoir, try John Grogan’s ( author of Marley) book The Longest Trip Home. I absolutely lived it! I read it twice and it was one of those cry and laugh out loud books, I highly recommend it!
Amber K says
I’ve loved most autobiographies and memoirs I’ve ever read. Barbara Walters’ was long, but really interesting. I love Tina Fey’s and Mindy Kaling’s books. And Ellen Degeneres’ book was hilarious!
Michelle K says
I agree with others posting about Tina Fey’s Bossypants and Jen Lancasters memoirs are hilarious!
Myrtle says
