What a fun Saturday!
After a rather wet walk with Sadie this morning, Ryan and I drove to Gainesville to run some errands. My stomach started grumbling within an hour of our arrival and when I saw a Subway, I told Ryan to pull in because a sub with lots of veggies sounded perfect.
Happy girl!
I got a ham sub with all the veggies except jalapeños.
Enjoyed with my handsome date!
We spent a few hours driving around Gainesville before making our way home. We were home for maybe an hour before we turned around and headed back out to meet up with our friends Terry and Janelle for dinner at Horse & Hounds.
Terry was actually a groomsman in our wedding and was driving through Ocala en route to Port Canaveral with his girlfriend Janelle because they’re leaving on a cruise tomorrow!
We were excited to plan a dinner date with them since we last saw them about a year ago in their hometown of Atlanta for an awesome dinner at Two Urban Licks. It was great to catch up this evening after so much time apart!
Horse & Hounds seems to attract a lot of the horse folks in Ocala, so the TVs had the Belmont Stakes on while we were there which was fun. (Neither Ryan nor I picked the winning horse this time. Ryan’s winning horse from the Kentucky Derby, I’ll Have Another, was supposed to race again today but was retired from racing because of tendinitis in his left front leg.)
Our meal began with warm rolls and I picked a whole wheat roll to snack on before my entrée came out.
For my main meal, I selected the turkey and candied walnut salad, served with feta cheese and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing.
They were very generous with the toppings! I loved all the walnuts and feta cheese.
I also shared some of Ryan’s Reuben sandwich and fries which were delicious as well.
Once we had to say goodbye to Terry and Janelle, Ryan wanted to swing by Gander Mountain to pick up a new heavy ball for Sadie since her best ball got run over by a lawn mower a couple of weeks ago. Her tennis balls don’t throw nearly as far as the heavy weight balls made to go with the Chuckit ball launcher.
And this would be the picture I got of Ryan when I asked him to hold up the balls for me to take a picture of for the blog…
Note the placement of the balls and the mischievous look. Typical.
Gander Mountain was a little low on staff today, so we wasted time in line by looking at the snacks.
There were some yummy snacks…
And then there was the world’s worst Halloween candy…
Say no to Bit-O-Honey! Ahhh!
Since we spent the day running around, I’m ready for a nice evening at home. I already have my pajamas on and it’s not even 8 p.m., which means a lazy night is a sure-thing in this house!
Hope you’re having a relaxing weekend!
Oh boys!
It’s not even 6pm here and I already have my PJ’s on-ohhhh the life of a grad student!
Have a great evening-PS pink is a good color on you! 🙂
I am so beyond offended by this post…Bit O’ Honey is my all-time FAVORITE candy! 😉
Me too!
Horse and Hounds —- makes me think of only one thing: Hugh Grant pretending to do an interview (for the Horses and Hounds magazine) with Julia R in “Nottinghill”. Haha, there seem to really be an awful lot of horses in Ocala 🙂
THREE balls?? Really, Ryan?!?! haha. And I’m the weirdo who likes Bit-O-Honeys….
My dog LOVES the chuck-it balls…we literally probably have fifteen of those bad boys! You’ll love them!
We just had Subway for dinner! Two footlongs for $10!!! I split mine with my kiddos!!
I can’t believe you don’t like Bit a Honey candies…..they are awesome!! Right up there with Chick o sticks!!!
I think Ryan and my husnpband are long lost relatives. Gary would’ve done – in fact I’m pretty sure he has done – the exact same pose with the balls.

Seriously iPad, that was supposed to say husband. Oops.
Ew I always hated getting those on Halloween! Why does anyone give those out?!
Ahaha! I love bit-o-honey!! You do kind of have to suck on it for a while though…
p.s. I just started reading still missing today and I’m already halfway! I couldn’t put it down and I’ll probably finish it tonight. Thanks for the recommend!
Man oh man boys will be boys … Curious to know what Ryan wld do if he saw a truck with it’s truck testicles the same height as him..
Question .. Has What’s Up Ocala done any stories on Frank Stronach’s grassfed beef farm and how it’ll affect the local water table? Deathly curious to think what locals think … We in Canada are so happy that he has “gone south”

Or google farmer frank goes to florida
ah, what can you do with these silly boys….? 😛 And I looooove Subway’s veggies cuz they load ’em up! And they’re rather fresh–surprisingly.
That salad sounds great, especially the vinaigrette!
Ok, this is so weird, but maybe you’ll appreciate it. Awhile back I read your post about I’ll Have Another and his first win. Then after his second win, I heard a story about I’ll Have Another on NPR. And recently I kept hearing about the Triple Crown possibility. I was so sad that he was suddenly retired! :-/ I felt I had a connection to him…and it all started here. Hah!
i know! we were bummed about that, too!
Hahahah, but I love bit o honey.
ahhh well. I’m an old person.
Din sounds fun – glad you got to see your friends again 🙂

I know too many men in my life that would do something like that. Most boys never mature out of that kind of stuff. Thankfully I’m a fan of dirty humor, so at least it makes me laugh.
I never liked bit o honey myself, the only person I know who does is my dad so I’d give them all to him. I gave him most of my ‘bad’ Halloween candy.
I’ll never forget being about 7 years old, eating a Bit-O-Honey, and having it stick to my top and bottom teeth so bad I had a full on panic attack– I thought they were going to permanently stay like that and I’d have to live with a clamped shut jaw forever! I hear ya on staying the heck away from them.
Thanks for reminding me about your visit to Two Urban Licks! Now that we live in the Atlanta area, that’s one of the restaurants I want to visit! 🙂
If I’m not doing much in the evening, I change out of my work clothes and right into pajamas before I’ve even eaten dinner! 🙂
I laughed so hard about the Bit-O-Honey! I HATED getting those on Halloween…you are right – SAY NO!!
Oh, and my husband would have posed JUST like Ryan with the balls. Boys will be boys!
Bit-O-Honeys (Hones?) are the BEST! What’s wrong with you? 😉
My husband is 44 and still does things like Ryan did with the balls 🙂 I don’t think they ever really mature!
