Good morning party people! I hope your weekend is off to a good start.
Mine is… now. I am usually the first one awake in our household, though Ryan and I seem to both be early risers and are almost always awake by 7 a.m. on days when we can sleep in. It’s sick.
For whatever reason, I was awfully tired this morning and Ryan awoke before me. He assumed I was awake as well and preceded to brush his teeth and get dressed for the gym in our room as I remained in bed.
Now this wouldn’t normally be a big deal and I might be able to sleep through the commotion, but what made it impossible to continue sleeping was a certain furry female who paced across the bed – and therefore my body – as Ryan walked around the room getting dressed.
Sleeping in is not allowed under her watch.
Workout
Once I was up and forgave Sadie and Ryan for ruining my peaceful slumber, Ryan and I drove to the gym to get in a quick morning workout.
We began with 20 minutes of steady state cardio on the elliptical before splitting up in the weight room.
I ended up doing a scaled-down version of my 1000 Rep Workout before calling it a day.
Breakfast
As we headed home, Ryan was hit with a craving for his favorite hot cakes from McDonald’s, so we made a pit stop at the golden arches.
I ordered an iced coffee and a fruit ‘n’ yogurt parfait to eat at home with a bowl of steel cut oats that I pumped up with egg whites, banana and flaxseeds.
Topped with a scoop of almond butter! (The oats were similar to my banana vanilla protein oats but with egg whites in place of the vanilla protein powder and flaxseeds in place of the hazelnuts.)
Plans for the day include:
- Walk Sadie
- Swing by Hobby Lobby + A craft project
- Dinner with friends
See ya later!

I’ve heard good things about McDonald’s iced coffee and I always mean to try it, but there’s a Dunkin’ Donuts right across the street and I can never pass on DD!
My dog is the complete opposite of Sadie! He would sleep all day if I let him… lazy pug.
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
your dog sounds like a dream to me right now. 🙂
Ellie says
But if you don’t like coffee too sweet you have to tell them that you want it black or it will be sweet by default 🙂 and I wish I were always a super early riser too! I’ve been meaning to switch it up like you but it hasn’t happened 😛
Ashlee says
This is my kinda morning I just love mornings and McCafes!! Your dog is darling
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
My pup does that to me too, but instead of a “pace” its a “pounce”. Some days I think she’s a lion.
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
my cat when i was younger would do that. he’d hunt my face under the blankets!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Oh yes, there is NO sleeping allowed according to our dogs either. There must be breakfast promptly at 6:30 – no ifs, ands, or buts!
Brie @ Coxswain Dilemma says
I like McD’s hot coffees and cappucinos, but they premake their iced coffees with cream, which doesn’t like me 🙁 always makes me a bit sad.
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
really? you can order iced coffee from there w/o cream and w/ whatever kind of milk you want at the mcdonald’s near us!
Brie @ Coxswain Dilemma says
really?! jealous! must be Ohio. hahaha.
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
I have a tough time sleeping in too. This morning I was wide awake at 6:30 even though I didn’t have to work.
mel says
I have a lab like Sadie!! Up at 4:30 during the week and up no later than 6:30 on the weekends. I also have a pit bull who literally would remain in bed all day long. He’s so loving and always ready for a good snuggle or nap 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Haha that picture of Sadie is a good one!
Sarah B. says
Hahaha I love it! Whenever I sleep at my parents, it’s the same way. My dog wanders around shaking her collar until someone takes her out, feeds her or, most importantly, pets her!
allison says
Oh Hobby lobby! I can wander around that store for hours!!! And of course i always want to go on Sunday when they are closed:(
Emma says
If if makes you feel better, our puss dive-bombed my hubby the other night as we were falling asleep. She launched herself off me, and all we saw was her silhouette as it flew through the air…
I had to get out of bed I was laughing so hard at our mischevious cat!
Jess @ JessieBear What Will You Wear says
See I never had a problem with my dog waking me up. Sometimes he’ll sniff at me a bit, but then he’ll just lay down or walk away. It’s my younger brother and sister that were the problem (when I still lived with them). They would literally bounce on my bed like little monkeys in the morning if I ever tried to sleep in. Ah well. Now getting up for school and work is always easy 😉
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
I feel like that’s the downside to dog ownership – they never let you sleep in as late as you’d like! :-p
Jenica says
Gosh what do the egg whites do to the oatmeal texture? Do they get cooked so the oats become kind of cooked like a pancake? This is baffling my brain.
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
ha! i add them towards the end and stir like crazy so they don’t turn into a weird egg puff thing. when the oats are almost done, i whisk the egg whites in and they don’t end up changing the texture too much.
Heather @dragonflygirlruns says
We have two V’s. My typical morning starts at 4:15, which means so are they and my husband cannot sleep while I am off at the gym! I have started to feed them that early too, which keeps them more under control…. yeah right! Two Vizsla’s?!?! Calm!! NOT! Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, have so many favorite combos too. Right now it’s 4 egg whites, 3 turkey sausages and a tablespoon of peanut butter (in a variety of flavors) on cinnamon raisin bread. I did have the oatmeal variety kick for a while and I am sure I will go back to it in the fall.
Jeannie says
Yes! Pls share how you did the oats and eggs. How much oats and how many eggs and how did you cook it? Thanks!!
Heather @dragonflygirlruns says
I have always just mixed my egg whites in and then cooked it. I am assuming you do it the same way?
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
i actually stirred them in toward the end b/c i got the idea as i was halfway through cooking the oats. i’ve tried a few different ways and am not really picky, so i’ve liked them all. 🙂
Ally says
Do you not get involved with HLS and those things?
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
i went last year and was on a panel, but decided not to go this year because i have some personal travel on the agenda w/ my girlfriends from college and w/ ryan that i wanted to save money for in the coming month. i’ll be at fitbloggin’ and the central florida blogger and social media conferences later this year though. 🙂
Melissa says
Oh, do I feel your pain about the dog waking you up! I had the same thing this morning times two. They’re both small dogs, so at least they’re not heavy, but my puppy always manages to walk on my face! Can’t a girl sleep in on a Saturday?!
Katie says
I love some McDonald’s iced coffee! By the way, I just have to say you are truly inspiring! I read your blog first thing every morning and I am always psyched to see new workouts and good eats. Yesterday I was feeling extra amp’ed after reading an article in health and your workout page. The health article was about the mililitary PFT test. I kicked my run into high gear and ran 2 miles in 16 minutes, followed one of your treadmill walking workouts and total body superset’s. I am proud to say I am ready to Be All I Can Be! I salute you!
Caralyn @ glutenfreehappytummy says
awwwww what a cute pup! and a delicious looking breakfast!
Claire says
Tell Sadie and Ryan to simmer down, it’s Saturday for cripes sake! Haha. Luckily, my dog is “gracefully aging”, and is slower in the mornings…she let me sleep until 9 a.m. today before walking her! Now, if that is not love, I don’t know what is 🙂
For some reason, this post inspired me to get movin’ this morning and head to the gym *as I type from under my covers* earlier than I had planned because I, too have a craft project I’d like to get done!
Have a great weekend!
Kelly says
Oh my gosh…that picture of Sadie is priceless!
Lauren @The Homeostatic Mindset says
Sadie is too much! It’s a real shame she is so freakin cute…you can never get mad at her! 😉
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
There’s no such thing as sleeping in when Charlie is around either! It’s borderline annoying – okay, it IS annoying!!
Michelle says
What’s your fav almond butter? Just out of nosiness! 🙂
Annette@FitnessPerks says
I totally sleep in on Sundays–It’s like 10 a.m. ish when I get up. Hah. I guess the benefits of no dog? 😉 hehe
Katherine says

My cat likes to stand on me when she’s ready for me to get up. Not such a pleasant way to wake up. She also likes to bury my underwear and socks in her litter box if I don’t get up. She’s wonderful (not so much, I still love her though).
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
My pup is the complete opposite. I can not sleep past 8 am for the life of me, and this is perfectly okay with me as I would rather start my day early to get more accomplished. My pup, however, will sleep in for hours after I wake up. Will not budge!
Bek @ Crave says
Haha that would drive me crazy! If my guy did that he would have to make it up with massages!
El says
Just out of curiosity, have you tried PB2 as a lower-fat replacement for peanut butter? I am absolutely in love with it, and rotate between it and regular almond/peanut butter.
