While I’ve managed to get work done, I feel like the day is flying by, but not in an energetic “Where did the time go!?” kind of way. It has been more of an “I’m floating through life and can’t snap out of it” kind of day for this girl.
Lunch
Lately I’ve spent some extra time in the kitchen on Sundays prepping food for the week to make assembling lunch and dinner a breeze.
Yesterday I cooked up a big batch of quinoa, chopped vegetables and tossed some chicken breasts in the crock pot. Today all that prep work came in handy when I assembled a super-fast warm quinoa bowl for lunch.
In my bowl:
- Quinoa
- Chicken
- Mushrooms
- Broccoli
- Cashews
- Avocado
It filled me right up!
About an hour later, I remembered that there was something pretty darn fantastic tucked away in our freezer.
When I blogged about my love for Oreo Birthday Blast ice cream a few weeks ago, Kate encouraged me to try another new flavor: Publix Premium Pretzel Sensation.
Since then, this ice cream has been on my radar and when I saw it on sale for $3.50 at the grocery store yesterday, I put it in our cart.
My goodness, this stuff is incredible. If you love peanut butter and chocolate and live near Publix, this ice cream will knock your socks off.
Check out the thick ribbon of peanut butter:
The little bowl was delicious enough to bring me out of my daze.
Ice cream is always the answer.
Question of the Afternoon
- What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
My answer: Oreo Birthday Blast! It’s a new flavor for me, but it was love at first bite. Chocolate marshmallow comes in a close second.
Beth says
I do love the Oreo birthday blast! So good. Even if it’s labeled “Dairy dessert” instead of ice cream. Ha! Probably a classic chocolate chip cookie dough would have to be my favorite though. That or strawberry with chunks of fresh strawberries in the ice cream. Yummm
OH Julie, you may have just changed my dinner plans with this post. Lol. I could eat fro yo every day!!
Julie says
Cookie dough and cookies and cream are my favorite!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
Reese’s never fails me – even when it comes to ice cream.
Although a few years ago, I got ice cream at a small ice cream shop while my family was camping called Grandma’s Cupboard – it was vanilla ice cream with brownie chunks, cookie dough, cookie crumbles, and probably some other stuff that I can’t even remember mixed in. Amazing.
Meri Kate says
I would have to go with cake batter, carrot cake, or anything caramel. There are so many though because I am just an ice cream person!
Nicole says
Oh. My. GOSH!! That ice cream looks incredible, but I’m no where near a Publix in California. 🙁
If you have Thrifty’s/Rite Aid near you in FL, go try some Chocolate Malted Crunch…..So delicious!
We need a summertime ice cream party!! STAT!
Sky says
Whirled Peace by Ben and Jerry’s is the BEST! It is sweet cream ice cream mized with heath cookie, chocolate peace signs and caramel!!
Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction says
That flavor looks to die for! I love coffee ice cream, coffee oreo, chocolate and vanilla….but my favorite flavor is plain old original frozen yogurt (even though that’s technically not icecream!)
Khushboo says
Either Ben & Jerry choc chip cookie dough or Baskin Robins mint choc chip mmm
Melissa says
Do you know if that ice cream has high fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated oils in it? I have a really hard time finding “good” ice cream that doesn’t have those ingredients in it. The ice cream sounds amazing, but I’d only want to try it if it wasn’t full of junky ingredients.
Hillary says
I recently became a fan of coconut after years of HATING it. When my boyfriend and I went on vacation this spring, I tried an Almond Joy ice cream for the first time, and it absolutely blew me away. SO GOOD.
Nikk says
I was in quite a daze too, today, and it seems like nothing can get me out of it like ice cream. I’ve always been a fan of mint chocolate chip (the white kinds, not the green kind) and just recently started making it myself. Homemade ice cream is much easier to make than I ever thought it would be! I’d definitely give it a try.
Amanda says
I’m seriously contemplating making a trip to Publix right now for some of that ice cream. Even if I have already had froyo covered in oreos once today! I love the idea of prepping for the week, but I’m never satisfied with reheated chicken for some reason? Random, I know!
Shannon says
Love ice cream especially the orange sherbert vanilla combo~delish:) Hope you are feeling better, hey who knows maybe you are in a daze because you could be pregnant?:)
Renee says
So addicted to Ben & Jerry’s Bonnaroo Buzz…
Lauren says

I have been lactose intolerant for about 3 years now. I miss ice cream soooo much! I can not even remember what my favorite flavor once back then. However, I have found a loop hole to my problem….FROZEN YOGURT! I am assuming that it is the live cultures in this delicious treat that allows me to eat it without my usual symptoms. Luckily I have a frozen yogurt bar right across the street from my apartment (i go atleast once a week 🙂 ) My favorite flavors are peanut butter (of course) and then I love to swirl red velvet cake and cheescake flavors together. If you have a frozen yogurt bar near you, you definitly need to try it out…you will not regret it haha
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
Oreo ice cream is definitely one of my favorites. I also love cookie dough!
Sonja says
Quick question…is there avocado on that lunch bowl? Also, thanks to you, my new favorite ice cream is the one mentioned here in your blog. I have never heard of Publix, so I guess I will just have to dream of eating it! 🙁
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
yes! i forgot to list it! oops.
Jennifer says
Peanut Butter Fudge Crunch is my favourite ice cream! mmm!
Emily @ Life on Food says
Life always seems easier when things are prepped on Sunday. If I can get through Wednesday, I am doing well.
Kelly says
I am a cookies and cream girl all the way!!! Also Sunday meal prep is a life saver for me and Keith! If we didn’t do that I fear we would live off cereal for dinner during the week!!
Danica @ It's Progression says
I (very sadly) can’t eat dairy ice cream, but I can now recreate my old favorite by mixing together vanilla coconut milk ice cream, chocolate syrup, peanuts, and peanut butter. So good!
Jessica @ Gin and Juiceboxes says
I am a Cherry Garcia girl through and through 🙂
Katy Penrod says
Seeing as we share a love for peanut butter and chocolate, I insist you need to try Tilamook brand Chocolate Peanut Butter, it has the thickest ribbons of peanut butter in rich chocolate ice cream…im drooling…
Caralyn @ glutenfreehappytummy says
wow lunch looks amazing — and so does that ice ream!! 🙂

So glad I read this post after I went to the grocery store! Ice cream is my weakness, but I’m trying to be good, so I haven’t bought any in awhile. That ice cream makes my mouth water for some Turkey Hill Chocolate PB Cup. There is no Publix in DE, but grocery stores do sell Turkey Hill ice cream, which is awesome! Although I have to say that my absolute favorite is also Turkey Hill – their Mint Chocolate Chip is the best! Of course, any chocolate flavor of ice cream is always a winner. Ben & Jerrys has some amazing flavors too. And then there’s DQ Blizzards… Oh, I have to stop or I might end up going out to buy some now!
Katie says
If I can’t decide, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is my go-to flavor. Pretty much anything with chocolate makes me drool though, especially brownies. Mmmmm
Chelsie @ Balance, Not Scale says
My favourite flavour used to be Baskin Robbins Gold Medal Ribbon … but now that I can’t have dairy anymore (stupid intestines!) I’m looking for a good alternative. Does anyone have any good suggestions?
em @ simplypresent says
That lunch looks awesome! I really need to add variety to my meals…
Ice Cream = Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough or Peanut Butter Cup!
Sarah B. says
Cookies and cream all the way!! But, I do love Cold Stone’s birthday cake remix, though it’s been ages since I’ve had that!
AJ says
http://www.handelsicecream.com/ is THE best ice cream I have ever tasted in my entire life!! Any flavor is great, but “spouse like a house” and “Snappy’s favorite” are the absolute tops!

Julie, I you like chocolate marshmallow then you have GOT to try Ben and Jerry’s phish food. I see that a few other people have mentioned it. It is absolutely delicious! Also their oatmeal cookie flavor is awesome. Basically can’t go wrong with Ben and Jerry’s! I almost wrote B&J’s but that looked wrong…
@pluvk says
I LOVE energetic “Where did the time go?” type of days… itʻs the sloooooooow, the work day won’t end and I want my dinner type of days kill me. 🙂
Favorite ice cream flavor? Hmmm… tough one! Probably macadamia nut ice cream.
mj says
most of my favs are publix brand – caramel getaway, cookie quarry (even though i can’t eat that one now), but i love their frozen yogurts too! yum!! target’s archer farms brand makes a pretty amazing peanut butter icecream too!
Brittany @ Barr & Table says
I love everything chocolate & peanut butter. I need to get to Florida to find a Publix & get that ice cream!
Bek @ Crave says
That looks soo good! I had the most amazing peanut butter ice cream a few weeks ago and that was the best I’ve ever had- I also like butter pecan and cookie dough.
Natalie says
I love a carmel flavor or a dulce de leche. In all honesty, I really prefer a diy frozen yogurt place. I like to *pretend” it’s healthy to load up my delish frozen yogurt with chocolate, oreo bits, reese cup bits…you get the idea! 🙂
Marilyn says
That ice cream flavor sounds amazing! A couple of weeks ago, I had some pb ice cream topped with cookie dough, and I’m STILL thinking about it. 🙂
Heather @ For the Love of Kale says
You and i had the same idea – busted through some ice cream too and it did the trick. 😉 Nom nom nom.
Samantha says
After reading this blog post yesterday, during my grocery trip to Publix last night, I picked up a carton of this ice cream. You are right, sooo tasty! Thanks for the suggestion!
My favorite ice cream has to be Hula Hula, a Publix Premium variety they had last summer. It was simply the bomb. If they could only bring it back…!
Natasha says
I’ve been lurking for weeks now, but couldn’t resist chiming in for the ice cream discussion! Up here in Canada, we have a company called President’s Choice (usually sold at Loblaws and Superstore grocery store chains). They have an ice cream that’s only available at Christmas and totally worth the wait for it: Candy Cane Chocolate Fudge Crackle Ice Cream. Yummy!
Megan says
I cannot wait to try this Publix ice cream! I am a HUGE fan of their frozen yogurt flavors… Road Runner Raspberry and Black Jack Cherry are both DELICIOUS!! and of course, because it is less sugar/fat than the regular stuff, I always eat way too much (not recommended, but def worth it ;))
Michelle says
I love eating food out of bowls. Any kind of food. And preferably with a spoon. It’s just easier! I guess I’m kinda lazy. And, I live in Florida and I’m so going to get that Publix ice cream ASAP. Thanks a lot!
VanessaG says
I too LOVE Oreo Bday blast! I have been keeping it stocked in my freezer because its getting harder to find. Oreos bday was in. Feb, so it may stop being made 🙁 . I have NEVER met anyone who loves iice cream more than me…no joke. I eat it every day of my life(I also run alot as well, haha) I’ve tried almost every brand and flavor I’ve ever been able to buy. However, I’ve never been to Public. The closest one is an hr away. But thats where my brother and two precious nieces shop. So this weekend I hope I can babysit and swing by Public to get some of their yummy ice cream!!! 🙂

I love all flavors of ice cream. I’m not sure there’s a flavor I would turn down, except for orange.

This combination of yogurt and ice-cream is amazing. I would pleasure to have it. This stuff is truly delicious and topping on it can make it more delicious.
Holly says
Im trying to avoid dairy so I like Almond Dream or Coconut Bliss ice cream. Then I will put some PB2, brownie chunks (i freeze a big batch of king arthur gluten free brownies) and walnuts to make my own sundae! Yum!
Did u put all the chicken and veggies in the crock pot? Or were they already prepped and then put into the crock pot? Any seasonings? 🙂
