A hot cup of tea to start the day!
Yogi Egyptian licorice mint tea is one of my all-time favorite teas and I have Ryan hooked, too! (If you’ve ever tried the tea they serve at Aveda, it reminds me a lot of their tea.) Such a unique flavor!
I am also a sucker for the little messages printed on Yogi tea bags.
I know you mean well, Yogi, but no one should have to endure my singing. I’ll leave singing to the talented Gretchen!
Breakfast
When I walked into the kitchen to make breakfast, the avocado in our pantry called to me.
I made myself a plate of scrambled eggs with peppers, shredded cheese and the glorious avocado.
Plus a cup of Greek yogurt on the side for a little sweetness.
Relay Races
Last weekend 26.2 with Donna, the only marathon in the U.S. dedicated solely to raising funds to end breast cancer, took place in Jacksonville, Florida. The runners ran by my parents’ place and my dad said it was incredibly inspirational and exciting.
Yesterday my dad brought up the idea of possibly running the marathon relay next year! Each relay team includes five runners that complete five different legs of the race:
- Leg 1: 6 miles
- Leg 2: 3.75 miles
- Leg 3: 6.75 miles
- Leg 4: 3.5 miles
- Leg 5: 6.2 miles
I think it would be so much fun and I’m sure that participating in the breast cancer marathon would be incredibly moving.
I’ve never participated in a running relay race before, but I have done a triathlon relay in Orlando. I was the swimmer for our team (Ryan swam for his team), my friend Ryan ran and my friend Laurel biked.
It was a blast and I’d love to do another one. My dad recently took up biking, so I’m hoping we can do a triathlon relay together sometime this year.

- Have you ever participated in a race as part of a relay team? Would you want to?

I love the tea at Aveda! I’ll have to try that Yogi one!

Doing it as a relay is an amazing idea! Would make it all the more fun not to mind manageable!

I ran a relay for the CIM (California International Marathon) in December here in Sacramento. I was the last leg and it was really fun because the other girls joined me near the end and we ran across the finish line holding hands!
The biggest lesson I learned however, is to coordinate a driver to be in charge of dropping off and picking up. Unfortunately CIM was a torrential downpour, which made it even WORSE to coordinate. Memorable experience though!

I have not competed in a race as a team.. but ironically, a group of my girlfriends and I were talking about doing a tough mudder together! 🙂 sounds like fun and is definitely a bonding experience.
Danielle @ Truffles n' Treadmills says
That sounds like a lot of fun! I would love to do a relay like that
Annette@FitnessPerks says
A marathon relay would be fun!!
Fizz @ fizzsbizz says
I would do that relay in a heart beat! I love that the distances are so manageable so that really anyone could take part (with a teeny bit of training).
That would be an awesome way for your family to say “take THAT breast cancer!!”.
Kerry @ Half Healthy, Half Nuts says
I have done a half marathon relay. The legs were a little funky though. The first was 4.8 miles and the second was 8.3 miles. I have done both legs in separate years and its pretty fun at the hand off part waiting for and cheering on your partner!

I LOVE the little messages on yogi tea bags…sometimes my cup of tea knows just what I need to hear on a given day!

I’ve run the CA Intl Marathon relay five years in a row now and it is always a lot of fun. Not sure how the relay you would run is set up but be sure to get an idea of the pace people will run. If you aren’t the first leg you have to give yourself enough time to get to the exchange before the runner arrives. I’ve been walking around looking for my runner and it is never fun after just running hard.
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom says
Oh my gosh! I would totally participate in the marathon relay! Is it in Jacksonville? I’d totally be part of the team 😉 So cool

Love your Lighthouse Cafe mug. One of my favorite breakfast spots on Sanibel.

Omg! Where did you get that tea?! I love the Aveda tea. I had found a brand/flavor similar to it once, and now I can’t find it at any store. You made my day!!
Audrey @ In Shape Cupcake says
Okay, that sounds like an awesome relay. I’ve been asked a lot to do one but i love running the full race. Which, i just PR’d my 2nd half marathon. 1:51:19. My next goal is to bring my 5k times down and then do a full marathon. I may look into this relay though.
Melissa says
Ok those cats? My cat does way too many of those things on a daily basis…

My friend ran the half last weekend and he said it was blast!! I bet it was awesome to see. Doing a relay version would be really neat.
Bek @ Crave says
love those cute messages on the tea bags!

I have done the 26.2 with Donna for the last 5 years and it is one of the best races out there. While I have not specifically done the relay, I have several friends who have and have raved about it. The race is so well organized, I totally recommend your family try it next year, I think you will have so much fun!
Laura says
I’m doing my first run relay (well since I ran track in school) this December for St Jude. I’m really excited!!

Michelle@sugarplumcupcake.com says
That sounds like a ton of fun..now THAT is a marathon that I could actually take part in! I would love to find one in my part of the world!

I organized 6 relay teams to run the 26.2 with Donna this year in honor of my Aunt, who is suffering from Stage 4 breast cancer. It was easily one of the most enjoyable races I’ve ever done – as you’re running, there is so much support and everyone is thanking you for running! Very cool.
The only thing I’ll say is that the relay and relay transportation is super disorganized and tough to figure out. If you need any advice, let me know!
