Hello from the Jacksonville airport!
Ryan and I arrived at the airport a little after 9 a.m. and are waiting for my family to join us at the gate before we head to Miami for a layover on our way to Lima.
Iām ready to get this vacation started!
Dinner
Last night, my father-in-law arrived in town around dinnertime and when Ryan and I suggested heading out for a bite to eat, he was more than game.
We drove to Prontoās pizza and I ordered the Greek salad since I loved it so much the last time we visited the restaurant. Itās big and packed with veggies.
Plus you get three of their fantastic, doughy garlic knots on the side.
We spent the rest of the night hanging out with my father-in-law and packing. It was good to catch up!
Workout
This morning we were up a little before 5 a.m. to be sure to make it to the gym right when the doors opened. Ryan and I wanted to sneak in a quick workout since we knew weād be spending most of the day today sitting in airplanes and airports. It felt good to get moving!
Ryanās dad is really into Muay Thai and is very active, so he was excited to join us and completed a strength workout with Ryan. It looked like they had a lot of fun together!
I did my own thing and went through a total-body strength circuit that resembled my 10 to 6 workout.
When we arrived home from the gym, the Fagan household went into go-mode. After a quick shower, it was time to hit the road. We said goodbye to my father-in-law and Sadie and I didnāt even realize I forgot to eat breakfast until we were about an hour into our drive to the Jacksonville airport and my stomach started grumbling.
By the time we parked our car (love the $5 a day on site economy parking!) and made it through security, I needed breakfast and immediately ordered a sandwich from Starbucks.
All of the usual breakfast options didnāt appeal to me and I wanted something with more staying power than a pastry, so a chicken sandwich with kalamata olive spread sounded perfect. Kind of weird, but Iāll take it!
I also ordered a cappuccino which left me feeling wired.
I hope you guys are having a great Friday! Iām hoping to check in again from the Miami airport because we have a billion hour layover there, so Iāll catch ya later!
Question of the Morning
- Do you usually eat traditional breakfast foods for breakfast? Do you ever find yourself craving something unusual in the morning?
Though it may seem a little strange, I almost always feel like I could eat spaghetti first thing in the morning.
Chelsea says
Have a great time, guys! I can’t believe you both managed to get up that early to hit the gym on a travel day – definitely dedication there! I’m big on sweet breakfasts, but every now and then the urge for something savory strikes š
Liz says
Ah, my favorite airport! I love the Jacksonville airport – so clean, hassle-free, etc. Have a safe trip!

My husband was on your flight to Miami this morning š Have a great trip!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
No way!! Small world!
Erica says
That coffee is bigger than you! Hope you have a fantastic time!
Kalin says
I’ve seen you mention that you feel insecure about your hips before- which is cray because you are teensy- but why do you always pull your tank tops soo far over them? It accentuates them every time rather than making them look smaller.
Meagan says
What is the point of a this post? How rude! Julie, you look adorable, as always!
Rachel says
Agreed – why write this!?
Krystina says
YES! I was actually in Miami this past weekend for a bachelorette party and on Saturday morning, a few of us went to a deli for breakfast. I ended up getting a salad for breakfast! It was delicious and just what I wanted!
Angela @ Health's Angel says
The other day, I randomly contemplated the idea of eating a salad for breakfast. Not sure why. I didn’t do it, though. Haha.
Safe travels!
Kaylyn says
Oh my gosh- how cute are you?! Love your travel outfit- adorable zip up! Have a great time!
Michelle says
First off, I want to say how much I LOVE your blog! I discovered it a few months ago, and wound up going to the very beginning, and reading everything from your first post up through now (it was quite a task hehe).
Second- totally down with sneaking in exercise before vacay! If I know I’m gonna be sitting in a car for more than about an hour and a half, I NEED to move in the morning or I’ll go nuts.
Lastly, I heart Starbucks cappuccinos…even without flavor they’re soo good and velvety! Enjoy vacation!:)
Emma @ a mom runs this town says
I’m so boring- Kashi cereal and almond milk. Have a safe trip!
Nicole @ OneRunningMama says
I usually have egg + whites on sourdough toast. A little boring, but it’s so yummy. If we have leftover pizza, cold pizza for breakfast is ALWAYS delish!
Have a great trip! Can’t wait to see pics and hear about your adventures! š
Jodea @ chillichocolatelove.com says
Cold pizza rules in the morning!
Sarah says
Funny enough- I sometimes really crave sushi for breakfast?! Ha! Have a great trip:)
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy says
I love breakfast food so I usually end up craving sweet things or egg sandwiches… then lunch comes and I crave the same thing, and dinner is not different. I could eat Breakfast for Brunch and Brinner everday. Have a good trip!
Clara says
I had a panini with mozzarella, tomato and pesto at 7 am at the airport once. Weird but I really didn’t feel like pastry for the same reason. š
A Pillow for Your Thoughts says
That is a great idea to go to the gym in the morning before a flight. It must make you feel healthier before sitting on a 9 hour flight to Peru!
Bridget @ Type A Frame Personality says
Have SOOO much fun! This is for sure top 3 vacation bucket list trips for us. I hope you take lots of amazing pictures for us to envy š
Michelle@Peachy Palate says
I could almost always eats roasted pumpkin for breakfast!I do a lot of meal prep in the mornings so end up doing a lot of nibbling on the savoury sometimes before breakfast. Have a great trip…love the nail colour!!!
Rachel B @ Busy Mama Fitness says
It depends! If I eat breakfast before a workout, I usually want traditionally breakfasty foods but after a workout, I tend to crave more savory salty stuff – like pad thai or pizza!
Claire says
Have so much fun, Julie! You look so cute with your cappuccino and luggage, missy!
If I do a hard, hard workout, sometimes I wake up craving things of sustenance like eggs, cheese, etc. I think part of it is that I need to replenish sodium levels. Maybe electrolyte drinks would be good to add into my workouts sometimes? I just started doing Crossfit inspired workouts and I am LOVING it!
Ashli - The Sweat Revolution says
Mmm, that Greek Salad looks delicious!
I pretty much always have the same thing for breakfast – a smoothie. Sometimes I think I need to branch out a bit more, but I just can’t seem to do it! š
Tamar says
Do you have a link to the red shirt you’re wearing? It’s so cute!
Jodea @ chillichocolatelove.com says
Most days I have a roasted vegetable frittata with some kind of protein – smoked salmon or mackerel. It keeps me full until lunch and not having sweet stuff first thing stops me craving it all day. I’ve been known to eat dinner leftovers, too!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
Hope all of your flights/layovers go well! Safe travels!
Catherine @ foodiecology says
Safe travels!
I generally crave typical breakfast foods (sweet or savory), but I’m always game for cold pizza. My only strange breakfast habit is post-Mardi Gras: cold leftover fried chicken. (And it’s gotta be Popeye’s.) Perfect hangover cure! š
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
Have a safe trip! I LOVE Greek salads!
Jelena@FabLifePhD says
Workout before such a long trip?! Seriously, respect! I skipped my lunchbreak workout today just because I figgured out that I will be in the lab 9 hours + grocery shoping+ a dinner with mother in law. It felt like too much, but now I must say, it was lausy excuse!
I tend to eat cereals+ frozen/fresh fruit+ lactose free milk every single morning! I never get bored of it! But sweet breakfast is a must for me!
Enjoy your time in Peru!
Noa says
Overnight oats (thanks to you Julie)! This week I’ve been traveling for work and with a mini fridge in the room and a grocery store around the corner, I’ve been able to eat overnight oats for breakfast this week. Pancakes or a scramble would be good tomorrow though š
Becky says
I love how your father-in-law worked out with y’all! My dad runs with me sometimes and I love it!
I usually eat traditional breakfast food, I guess I’m pretty boring. š But I do sometimes crave sweets in the morning š
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats says
I used to drink coffees that big but now I don’t even drink coffee anymore. I’ve tried to but since giving it up if I have it, it now makes me jittery.
I have had chocolate for breakfast on my birthday before.
Caitlyn says
You’re heading to Peru?!?
I just got back from Lima last Saturday. I spent 3 1/2 months traveling though South America and followed your blog the whole time.!Have a wonderful and safe trip. It is a truly amazing country and people throughout the continent are wonderful!!!
Avery @ SBLW says
I have had a few instances where I’ve eaten leftover salad for breakfast. Hey, it was in the fridge, and I didn’t want it to go to waste! Weird feeling, but filling!
Liz says
I always always always need to eat some kind of “traditional” breakfast food when I first wake up, no matter how late I sleep in! If you crave spaghetti for breakfast, you would love New Zealand; spaghetti on toast is one of their most popular breakfast dishes! They also serve baked beans on toast. I’m a little skeptical and haven’t tried it yet, but I’m probably should at least once before I go home.
Gina G says
My go to breakfast at home is oatmeal, but every once in a while cold pizza is the best!
Jennifer says
Julie! Firstly I love your blog! Secondly, re: weird breakfast……sometimes the traditional doesn’t work for breakfast. Something I like is egg salad sandwich, preferably on toasted rye. I LOVE eggs, so this does it on every level for me.
Enjoy your vacation, I’ll look forward to seeing pics and reading about it!
Emily says
I love breakfast foods so much that I never contemplate anything else for breakfast! š
Have a great vacation! Sounds fun!
Miranda @ Miranda Runs says
I love breakfast food, so you’ll always find me eating traditional breakfast foods!
Court Star @ StarSystemz says
Wow $5 a day parking, incredible! Out here in LA its like 30$ a day economy! Hope you have a fun trip š I love Starbucks breakfast so delicious and perfect for on the go! Morning is either a smoothie or a veggie egg white omelet never have I craved something other then that! I wish I did sometimes because when I visit Asia its custom to eat rice + a meat for breakfast or Pho which is hard for me to get used to when I go over there so I just order fruit usually. Sending you fun memories! Love + Shine CourtStar
GiGi Eats Celebrities says
I definitely DON’T eat traditional foods for breakfast – I am not allowed to eat eggs anymore, so goodbye my favorite omelets!!
Lately I have been microwaving Mussels and Squid for breakfast, or if I have more time, I will sautee them in a pan with a little olive oil – OMG SO DELICIOUS and protein packed š Totally recommend my odd but AWESOME breakfast to anyone!
Jan says
My grandfather used to say…Anything that’s good enough to eat any other time of day is good enough to eat for breakfast. I used to eat spaghetti, chicken noodle soup, cold pizza. I always prefer a savory breakfast over a sweet one. Have a fabulous trip!
Court Star @ StarSystemz says
Hope you have TONS of fun! I have been on an olive kick lately so that sandwich sounds delicious maybe for lunch though, not sure how I feel about eating chicken for breakfast lol* Sending you fun times! Love + Shine CourtStar
Kierston @candyfit says
I think it’s the other way around for me! I think I crave more unusual things for dinner as opposed to breakfast š
Have a fabulous trip!
Bek @ Crave says
Sometimes I feel odd not eating traditional brekky options hahaha š
