Yesterday, about 30 minutes after I arrived in Jacksonville, my family and I headed out to celebrate my sister’s 24th birthday. Leslie requested a seafood dinner, so we decided to try a new restaurant called Old Florida.
The restaurant is located on the water and we were lucky enough to grab a seat outside on the deck overlooking the marina.
When we arrived, we couldn’t help but notice a bunch of cats hanging out in front of the restaurant.
They are clearly seafood lovers, too! Someone told us that though they are stray cats, they are all spayed and neutered. Bob Barker would approve. Apparently you can tell that they have been spayed or neutered if one of their ears has been clipped.
The cats didn’t follow us onto the deck, but we had fun watching them enjoy the last bit of sunlight outside of the front of the restaurant.
One we were seated, we dug into the fresh cornbread while we took some time to look over the menu.
I knew I wanted seafood, so I opted for a seafood cobb salad topped with steamed clams.
Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals, but managed to save room for dessert. We knew a killer birthday cake was waiting for us when we got back to my parents’ condo.
My mom made my sister an Oreo ice cream cake and it was a hit! Leslie and Ryan share an intense love for Oreos (my mom made the same cake for Ryan’s birthday once before) and I know Ryan was a little jealous he wasn’t there last night. He was missed!
We ate cake while Leslie opened her presents. It was such a nice night and I’m glad I was able to celebrate my sister’s 24th birthday with her!
Happy birthday, Leslie!

That cake looks amazing! Would your mom mind sharing the recipe?
I’m actually making a cake this weekend for my brother’s birthday… A cookie dough cake!! Sadly I can’t partake because of allergies, but it will be hard to resist. It just looks so yummy! Here’s the recipe I’m looking at in case you want to drool 😉 http://www.somethingshinyblog.com/2011/10/chocolate-chip-cookie-dough-cake.html

Love that those cats have been TNR’d (trapped-neutered-returned)- ears are clipped when they’re under in order to let other people trapping feral/stray cats know that they’ve already been altered so if they’re caught again to let them go.

mmm! can you post the recipe for the cake??

Yowza! I had no idea that’s what the clipped ear was about. I thought it was a common cat fighting injury. Seems harsh, but I guess the reasoning is sound!

Can you share the recipe for this cake? Looks amazing!

Glad you had a good meal there–we’ve not been so lucky. We have given it three strikes–it’s out of our considerations now!
